And to make the point how good both are together, even though each has a style so distinct when they play together the one playing background just makes it better without their style dominating the others song. you can tell the two love playing together, they have done it many times.

🇨🇦 So many parties, so many times, I would look across the room at my Wife and pinch myself ! On occasion, we would find ourselves in different groups of friends, talking or drinking, even dancing, and even if we only got one dance together, we went home feeling happy and wonderful ! We had a great group of friends and attended many dinner parties with them, and at each one, I could not believe my luck when I would glance in her direction ! Over 50 years now . . . 🇨🇦

Dire Straits' great rhythm guitar player Jack Sonni (RIP) was at the birth of his twin daughters, so Dire Straits had to find another player. Eric is lovingly referred to as the "tricky little inside left", who's "never played at Wembley before" (Mark says this in the opening song). Overall this is a great concert, with Brothers in Arms probably being the highlight. But great versions of all Straits' songs here as well as Clapton

Dire Straits were the headline act at this concert. Eric was only there because their regular rhythm guitarist Jack Sonni's wife had just given birth to twins and he stood in for him. Mark Knopfler being his usual generous self incorporated a couple of Eric's songs into their set. Later that year Mark and Dire Straits' keyboard player Alan Clarke joined Eric as band members on his 25th anniversary tour.

Clapton stood in last moment for their usual rhythm guitarist as his wife was about to give birth. It was a favour as Mark has been a guest at some of his shows and afterwards joined Eric on the American leg of his tour. This is from the Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Concert which Dire Straits headlined.

So 3 of the most romantic and best songs were written about patty boyd. Who was married to George Harrison. Of the Beatles. Who was best friends with Eric Clapton. Who fell in love with his wife Patty Boyd. Who he wrote Layla about. And then Patty left George to be with Eric and married Eric. And George had written this song something about Patty and of course this song that you love so much was written about Patty Boyd,
As for Eric and Mark Knopfler, the lead singer and driving force of Dire Straits. They became best friends because they probably are the two greatest guitarist in the world.
And Erik would have something called the princess trust which was like 20 nights of concerts that was to raise money and, Knopfler and usually Elton John and others like Phil Collins and Cooper the famous percussionist always come and play withEric
The musicianship when these guys play is literally off the charts

George Harrison of the Beatles was married to model Pattie Boyd, and Eric Clapton was his best friend. Eric (and many, MANY others) was in love with Pattie Boyd, and he essentially stole her from George. Eric - briefly leading a group called Derek And The Dominos - wrote a (very famous, popular rock) song called Layla about his love for her before he eventually got her. This song was written a while later, after they'd been together for a while. The crazy thing was, George and Eric continued to be best friends, despite Eric stealing Pattie from him.

Patti Boyd, Eric Clapton, and George Harrison. Read about how this all happened. Its weird with a capital W. When Eric is singing about an aching head, he isnt lying. He self secluded for 2 years to kick heroin and became a raging alcoholic in the process. He later kicked it all, cigarettes too, and opened the Crossroads recovery center. George Harrison wrote "Savoy Truffle" in the Beatles about Eric eating tons of candy due to his heroin addiction and having his teeth replaced because they rotted out of his head. And if thats not enough wife swapping for you, read about George and Ringo swapping wives at house parties. The Beatles werent as squeaky clean as their press.😂

I'm really looking forward to the release of a new rendition of Going Home in 12 days with Mark and Eric among the 60 musicians contributing to it as Mark Knopfler's Guitar Heroes. Others include Dave Gilmour (Mark and Dave on the same track at last!), Hank Marvin, Brian May, Slash and the last recorded performance by Jeff Beck. I don't know how they've managed to incorporate so many but can't wait to find out!
