As someone who's played a lot of the Gundam Vs series, this "build a team where better characters cost more" system sounds really fun to me. I would love to see a tournament come down to two teams with one god-tier character and two 1 point heroes.
Amingo was my first "main". Also he apparently was designed for Darkstalkers (as well as Ruby Heart), but the game was never finished or released. Maybe if we get a real updated sequel they will pop up.

The sheer volume of wacky teams you could build in this game made it the GOAT.
I see no lie. You could even take top-tier teams and strats and break them into low-tier characters. Winning money with Bonerine/Iceman/Doom, was a good time...for me.

Remember about Zangief: spin the controller during his Hyper Combos to make the attack do more damage.
Yeah, I kept watching how little damage it did compared to what it SHOULD have done. It's not a small amount.
The whole controller? Now I just imagine people flipping their fight sticks in the air so gief does more damage.
Amingo is the reason I gave this game a try in the arcades originally, I was never an x-men fan and I only played Nintendo games so I didn't care about Capcom either. But I saw that cactus and he looked wild so I popped a few quarters in and button mashed happily.

My buddy ran Amingo/Shuma-gorath/Doctor DOOM and I've never seen him lose lol
Your “bad” Guile is like 1000x better than my best character in this game lol
Amingo is really fun. Several launcher options, tk-able spin move, low frame rate for light attacks, far reaching heavies, mashable vertical super for punishing jump-ins, and he brings his own maracas. If you can time it right, a fun thing to do is guard break an incoming character by planting a minion cactus then jumping hk+turnip spin; they land on the mini and you get a free ult or safe switch out.

I'm pretty sure I saw more of the roster in these few videos than I've seen in every competitive game for the last ten years.
This dude saw a ton of play in the arcades I went to in the first handful of years. His combo game and pressure was really good.
I always kept Amingo on my team, he was cool! But I was a kid when mvc2 came out, so i was just button mashing into super anyway.
I remember going to this arcade-now-pizza-joint when my dad picked me up for visitation as a kid. Had the cabinet in the back by this *behemoth* of a tekken machine. I had no clue who was who aside from the popular names. But i ran across this guy n anakaris, button mashed, n couldn't believe the animations. Smash might've been my 1st fighting game, but the angry pickle n toilet paper man got me into the genre.
Just a quick correction. Justin Wong did more to popularize this ruleset less so propose it. The Edmonton FGC were actually the ones proposed the ruleset. I know because I entered the tournament and hadn't heard of ratios before then.
Absolutely one of he most fun characters in MVC2.
If they ever FINALLY make a new Darkstalkers, he needs to become a mainstay
I actually like Amingo because his corner magic series stuff is so fun and his Grab Cacti are amazing for corner pressure when paired with Doom-B.
As soon as I learn Doom,I can definitely utilize my Amingo/Venom/Doom team.
I used to run Amingo, Doom, and Sentinel\Tron Bonne back during the arcade days myself. Also Amingo maybe one of the few characters that you can air combo into his air grab and he also have a Gambit like glitch as well

This character was so weird and I love him for it! Amingo and serve bot were always on my team! Something about them just tickles my fancy so I'd always pick them exclusively!

I remember my dad bought me this game for the ps2 back in the days in 2003. Didn’t even know this was one of the best and most iconic fighting game of all time as I later learned. Thanks dad :)
I think you can punch out of the Lariot > Zangief 360 super. Also, when it does connect, rotate the joystick 360 degrees thoughout the slam for more damage (he turns red when doing this).
This is such a great way to play this game. I got so sick of seeing Sentinel, Storm, and Magneto. This shows that this game actually has variety.
I would love you to do a similar video for Ruby Heart. She is yet another character design that sadly will never be used again.

I think part of the reason for the best assists to be at 4 is so they won't see play for what they are. If they were a 3 point character then they'd be paired with one of the 4 point front characters and Roll.
In the same logic, its why servbot is a 1 pointer. He's just better then roll in that he does a few more things
Servbit definitely should not see play at 1 point, but at 0 he'd see almost exclusive play probably.
In UMvC3 certain characters with strong assists get an extra point if you pick the strong assist and I feel you can implement this with MvC 2 so that every character can see play for example CC can be a 0-1 cost character but if you pick the good assist he goes up to 4 points same as Psylocke but she’s decent so she can be 2 this shouldn’t be done to every character just the characters who have really good assist but aren’t great by themselves
This is easily my favourite MvC game. No idea why the others didn't resonate with me as much as this one did but I played the absolute hell out of this game when I was younger. :)
I still remember trying this game for the first time on xbox live arcade and the AI's defense was so good that basically every fight in arcade mode went to time lol
This might be a dumb question but how does everyone play this game? Ive always wanted to get into MvC2. Do they just have the game from when it was available to purchase or is there a means to play it now? Or is everyone just playing on the PS2 emulator?
in-person tournaments are still run on dreamcast. At home most people play on dreamcast emulator

Could you please do an aningo combo video?? I’ve been trying to get back into MVC2 and I’m torn wanting to use Amigo, Dhalsim, or Anakaris. But I’m I playing on Dreamcast so I don’t know if I can get all the inputs in, but I would LOVE an amingo video!
Also I’m having a really hard time dashing consistently with both punch buttons. I know I need Fightcade and an arcade stick but I don’t have a pc or the $ right now! If anyone has any pointers playing on Dreamcast!

The Chinese KOF scene did this ratio thing some time ago.
I kept it simple w/ Guile, I always messed up on his air combos, but I'd always get 4-5 good hits in lol and of course double leg sweep into his super was easy
He always reminded me of Cactuar from Final Fantasy

Previously, jmcroft stated that he uses NullDC Bear to play this came online, but does anyone know how he is accessing the training mode/infinite timer? whenever I use it, it boots me straight to the character select for arcade mode.
You're probably running the arcade version. There's a Dreamcast rom that lets you run training

He, (along with Ruby Heart, Amingo, and Marrow, at least) were advertised as his first appearance ever in a fighting game when MVC2 came out. JM, was referring to first appearance ever, tho.
Rumor has it that both Ruby and Amingo were supposed to be featured in a Darkstalkers series game.
