MvC2 has probably the best damage scaling system ever implemented. basically nothing does pretty much any damage at all after some hits, and undizzy makes it so pretty much no one can infinite you until you die. at the end of the day, if anyone gets you with an infinitie, they need to go close to undizzy and combo into 2 supers to get a kill making real TODs from 100% life quite unlikely, and that's what makes the infinites and stuff like it to not break the game. get that and add the whole "you really need to hit you opponent in the proper situation to be able to TOD him" and you get a game with very, very low amount of real TODs even at the highest level.

Basically all of this stuff was known about back in the day, and a few more things that you didn't mention, but I don't think anyone was "wrong" about Silver Samurai. The problem is, he does poorly against every top tier in the game, which may not be as much of a factor in ratio tournaments, but when it was two players who had free choice of the whole roster and were trying to win he really does struggle a lot. You can argue about whether he was underrated when people called him "low tier", but he's never going to rise beyond lower mid without some sort of qualifying conditions like ratios. I use him a lot to teach people a lesson who call assists freely. Ice mode can actually do a lot of chip. Can kill a blocking opponent easy. Especially the level 3 super.
Pretty sure Silver Samurai can still block while having hyper armor, which Colossus or Zangeif can't do. I also want to say Glacial Spikes has to be blocked low.
He’s always been in my top 5. He has a nice throw rest in the corner, both air or grounded. His power ups are all actually quite strong, you just need to use them for combos. That fire super does tons of damage in the corner and ice super does insane chip. His projectile does decent chip as well. You already mentioned the vortex mix up. He’s just such a solid character. Damage. Defense. Plus assist KILLER.
My main team back in the day was Silver, Bison and Blackheart. I really enjoyed yo play with them and I used the swords depending on the situation, also you forgot to mention when you have fire you can chain the Shuriken Burst with the Gurenjin on the corner.
Im no good player a mvc2 but i think the idea for using the "Element sword- Fire/Lightning/Ice" is to play the unpredictable game. The different supers could also technically be used for mix up options but they could also do the other supers for comboing with assists. Think of it this way Lightning- Obviously most versatile but good for countering assists Fire- Can be used with anti-air assists like blackheart or wolverine Ice- Stun/capture type can work but can also be used as a free chip/ pressure for your opponent to have to go airborne which could lead into anti airs or assists Thats what i believe the elements are for. Its meant for Silver Sam to be extremely versatile for different teams
Can u give and overview or updated insight of each character in this game? I believe a modern interpretation of the meta is definitely needed. Lots of love for this game
If MVC2 was ever to get a port on new console would you like a balance patch that would adjust characters like Silver Samurai to be a little more useful on his supers or would you keep it the exact same ?
I've been thinking about this a lot with the recent MVC2 resurgence. Watching the same matchups over and over again in competitive play is boring IMO, but would fixing those characters actually make it a better game? I don't know that it would.
His lightning super is NOT completely safe on block. You can punish it with a well timed tag. Also certain characters with projectile invincibility (cammy's killer bee super) can punish easily. Cable can also AHVB if you chicken block it. Good video still though.
My old team used to consist of Strider/Silver Sam/Doom. SS does a ton of chip with Projectile Super, Katana Slashes so my old team would focus on chip kills and punishing assist with Lighting Super.
Actually thank you I JUST started learning this character, he's so fun, and learning about his instant overhead and INFINITE is super helpful; Great video!
He’s able to also stack his supers for more armor He can use all five bars and go through everything!!! You wanna use ice mode with three bars plus he is armored and can run through people
alot of times ...like at 2:36 ...the lightning will start hitting the opponent but it'll hiccup and theyre able to block...you can see the combo reset and ive seen it many times in my own playing
I have never played MvC2 seriously, only played it a little bit when I was really young, but I love these MvC2 videos! I would like to see you talk about Jill because Resident Evil is my favorite franchise.
his infinite is just the Wolverine infinite from MvC1 if it was tweaked to work in MvC2's controls MvC1 Wolverine can crouch-cancel the first hit of his standing strong, so the infinite is to land standing strong by any means (cancel or raw, because you can do raw mediums in MvC1), then crouch-cancel the first hit, then 3button dash, then cancel the dash into any standing or crouching jab or short, then chain cancel to standing strong, and loop, but unlike SS, it works anywhere on screen, and in juggles
Also wondering about Hayato, I think he’s super fun and his design is sick, but it seems he’s generally considered pretty bad. Maybe he’s got a good assist or a cool glitch or something
@@CCuppy29 Hayato is complicated. His normals, and specials have strong range, and can easily be comboed into. However his sword slashes are rather laggy so his rushdown is unsafe outside of his light kicks. His expansion/balance assist is alright, and his anti air is not very good. Hayato's plasma field gives him unlimited super meter for 10 seconds which can be used to setup his level 3 for only one bar to get good damage. Hayato excels on the ground but lacks any options when fighting in the air, which obviously is a bad thing when the three gods can fight in the air. If anyone wants to play Hayato I recommend to learn the range of his normals, and plasma combos since they are vital to his gameplan. His sword slashes are unsafe but you can use his light kicks to recover faster if it's blocked. Shiden should be used only to hit confirm into his supers rather than to pressure since it's very unsafe. If you play Hayato on point I would recommend Silver Samurai's ground assist as it works well with Hayato's combos, and pressure. Hayato's Hyper Flash Sword super, and level 3 can also be DHC into Raimeiken for great damage as well. Thano's bubble assist, and Sabretooth projectile assist also works for setting up combos.

Think of it this way
Lightning- Obviously most versatile but good for countering assists
Fire- Can be used with anti-air assists like blackheart or wolverine
Ice- Stun/capture type can work but can also be used as a free chip/ pressure for your opponent to have to go airborne which could lead into anti airs or assists
Thats what i believe the elements are for. Its meant for Silver Sam to be extremely versatile for different teams
Omg that 2nd match 😱
What happened to his other super where he has afterimages?
Can u give and overview or updated insight of each character in this game? I believe a modern interpretation of the meta is definitely needed. Lots of love for this game
The lightning super is amazing. Takes so much damage. Loved punishing assists with it
I literally forgot bison existed in this game. Maybe do a review of him?
Another mvc2 character highlight nice, hope you does strider too or any of the darkstalkers. Love this game and this series
Did you notice that the electric super while powered up with electricity left no replenishable health?
when he said "a grip of damage" i thought about it and i have no idea when i last heard grip used that way. what a throwback lol
2:23 The phrase "Instantly delay hyper combo" makes me chuckle
Man, that was cool. A couple of new tricks I learned from this video, specially the infinite, thanks.
Awesome content jmcrofts!
Silver Samurai is my main! Nice video!
YOOO THATS MY MAIN I'm so happy to see Silver Samurai get some recognition!
Please do a video on the most underrated and underused top tier, Blackheart
@ 6:00 the lightning power up doesn't do any red damage when you do lightning super
Good to know!
@@dereklearnslow hey legend, I used to play against you on Xbox
gagetlover
I miss the game
@@nullno3722 Yoo I remember you. You taught me some things too. Come back to xbl! Or fightcade.
As a guy who plays Silver Samurai, I was not surpised at all when the first thing discussed was lightning super
I used to play 3 Silver samurais because I liked to use the team hyper with the electricity super, all 3 of them at the same time.
His lightning super is NOT completely safe on block. You can punish it with a well timed tag. Also certain characters with projectile invincibility (cammy's killer bee super) can punish easily. Cable can also AHVB if you chicken block it. Good video still though.
I was thinking the same thing Cable can get a punish from that but is precise?
@@x-Abraham-x2 not really. just up back and super when you get a chance. Try not to get a push block, or you'll guard break yourself.
I think its safe to say its safe. Air hype viper diaper just doesnt count when talking about punishes. The move is just too good.
when you buff into ice you can kinda ...not a cross up but, jump over the enemy to behind them ...and that thing also needs to be blocked low
He’s able to also stack his supers for more armor
He can use all five bars and go through everything!!!
Awesome to see you here
@@Brutalmoon Well, I love watching great fighting game contents
I enjoy these random videos. It's different and I like it
his infinite is just the Wolverine infinite from MvC1 if it was tweaked to work in MvC2's controls
MvC1 Wolverine can crouch-cancel the first hit of his standing strong, so the infinite is to land standing strong by any means (cancel or raw, because you can do raw mediums in MvC1), then crouch-cancel the first hit, then 3button dash, then cancel the dash into any standing or crouching jab or short, then chain cancel to standing strong, and loop, but unlike SS, it works anywhere on screen, and in juggles
These character overviews are good. Keep doing them. Is Hayato any good in any way? What about Ruby Heart?
Ruby heart is actually pretty good hayato however, sucks. His normals, combos, and supers are severely lacking compared to others.
Also wondering about Hayato, I think he’s super fun and his design is sick, but it seems he’s generally considered pretty bad. Maybe he’s got a good assist or a cool glitch or something
Ruby Heart is the queen of low?mid tiers. Hayato is fucking trash. His concept is great but it just dosnt work at any level imo.
SS the most unique player in the game and most slept on
Though I'm a veteran, I must admit I didn't know half of what you explained. New subscriber.
He’s good but you have to build a team around him.
Omega Red overview please! You use him a lot.
Love these videos it feels like a throwback, and I’m learning more about the characters: the bread and butter of MvC2. I’d love to see more content for more of the characters
Does the Ice super have large chip damage?
I used to do themed teams for Mvc2 and team Japan was Ryu, Jin, and Silver Samurai
Dude I was just thinking about how Wolverine had his claws cut off of one of his hands in The Wolverine, did they keep that up in the continuity like have bone claws regenerated on one hand I never noticed if they did and hey what better place to ask then a random (to me) video that just so happens to feature The Silver Samurai...
Do you use hitbox at all? It would be interesting to see if there was any "new" tech in the game since it came out before hitboxes were popular.
Thanks bro , I didn’t know a lot of this stuff 👏👏, I gonna used it now
one thing I recall is that even his regular shurikens do insane chip damage too
I don't play much anymore, but Samurai has always been one of my top picks. He's just a very fun character to play.
Thought you would mention but raimeiken isn't completely safe. There are gaps in it and Cable can ahvb in between one of them.
Sweet baby Jesus, that last match was cool as hell!
Best series so far we want more!!!
I never thought he was bad, but the extra install thing...I didn't expect it.
dude I used him a lot....and I had no idea he was soooo complex. I do recall though later on I just stopped using his powerups because his lightning super was sooooooo good
At 1:40 holy shht look at the damage on Psylocke. Wow. I knew the super was good, but I didn't know it was that good...
Loving these character reviews! Maybe you could try rogue in the future?
The top players just rinse and repeat Sentinel, Magnito, Cable.. it's annoying when there is sooooooo much going on in this game.
i miss his fire buff and his shadow abilities from CoTA, teleport and shadowclones...in the arcade a friend let me 100% (i didnt know it was gonna 100% dmg but it did) with both fire buff and shadow clone ...jump in with FP then standing FP and it was 100% dmg
@16:17 You should have done his Guard Breaker
I'd love a Sonson video.
I've practiced MvC2 for years, including Magneto infinites (with little success tbh), and I was *today* years old when I found out that MvC2 had this anti-infinite system...
I don't even competitively play MVC2 but I liked your video lol. Nice work.
