One question I have is how does one play out of very wet sand? It rains here very frequently during the golf season and it is 50-50 whether the sand is dry.

I was a solid bunker player, then I went through some swing changes that really improved my ball striking. Unfortunately it seems to have destroyed my bunker play. I was stubborn to believe it because I was pretty good and figured I would figure it out. It got worse and worse. Then I asked myself where should I go. First place I thought of was Padraig's page. Going to practice this right now. Thanks man It all made sense.

Another great video Padraig. Some constructive feedback... watching it I was saying to myself ‘when is he going to tell us it is the wave of sand the bounce of the club generates which should lift and propel the ball, not contact with the face’. You finally got around to mentioning that at the eight minute mark but it would have been better to format the advice on the problem solving framework of: goal > strategies > tools and tactics. That’s a framework Sun Tzu suggested in “The Art of War” I’ve used for many years for problem solving and whenever I need to teach another person anything.
I would venture an educated guess -based on asking other golfers-few beginners understand what ‘bounce’ on a club is or why more is needed on a sand wedge than a pitching wedge (someone measured Hogan’s PW and found it had negative bounce). Gene Sarazen is credited with inventing the higher bounce SW in the mid-1930s to in response to the “Spoon” club being banned and a PW tending to either dig in or skip and scull the ball. He took a club and melted lead onto it to create more of a “snow plow” effect, he became as bunker wizard others copied his idea. Now it is the status quo but few if asked know why.
Beginning in golf I never understood how to hit a sand shot until a caddie told me the goal was for the club to push a wave of sand from behind under the ball. Slap forehead with palm, start hitting good bunker shots. What are the strategies for creating the wave of sand? Starting with a high bounce SW and / or opening the face which increases bounce relative to swing path, but also causes the hosel to lead which may cause shanks which suggests changing technique vs. a normal shot off turf and putting the ball more toward the toe of the club if that occurs.
