Excellent video. You're very generous with your information. I have been working with beeswax as a hobbyist for over a decade. It is the most particular wax. Do you mind providing detail info in your reply or add it in the description of your video?
What size wicks are you using for your molds? I believe that you need 60 ply/#4 (still not sure of the difference) for beeswax candles 3"or greater in diameter, 2/0 for candles 1-3" in diameter, correct?
Do you prime your wicks in beeswax? I don't think that you do? I've been told that beeswax candles will burn longer when doing this. Have you experimented with it?
Have you ever added a little bit of coconut oil to your pillar candles? I am wondering if adding 25% coconut oil would help with burn time. I wonder if it would make the candle too soft though.
Are bubbles in candles caused by being poured too quickly? Any other reasons?
I have been pouring my candles between 150-160 degrees. This temperature causes a lot of the wax at the bottom of the pot to slightly harden leaving a lot of wax in more of a solid state that I can't pour unless I heat it up again. Any recommendations?

Hello Chris, you are correct on the wick sizes. I don’t add anything to my wax however I do know that adding the coconut oil will make them last longer or burn longer. I have never primed the wicks except one time. It does help to do that as old timer who did candles in the 60s and 70s said it will make the candles burn longer and it also helps when you are taking them to shows and not to mess the tip of the wicks up as you are unpacking and packing them up. I do plan on doing another video this week actually just for fun but I always try to include more information. The air bubbles I really don’t have an issue with them, however I do have some molds that can be very particular and not fill up as well leaving an air pocket at the top. I just top that off as soon as I see but don’t fill the mold if it is pulled away from the sides or it will add more wax to the outside of the candle. That can be a cool look on some of the plain molds. I just pour right away I never actually ever use a thermometer for see what my temperature is. That’s just how I have done it over the years and it’s working so I don’t change that. I do believe my temp is around 170 degrees Fahrenheit to be truly truthful but that’s just an educated guess. I just love making them and enjoy the process. It sounds like you definitely know what your doing and I do appreciate all your input and suggestions for others, it always helps to have a beeswax candle community. Your kind words means so much. I’m not sure if that would help remove bubbles or add more. Have you worked with hemp wicks? I really want them to work but haven’t had much success but I have had some positive results in my jar candles. Everyone says hemp and beeswax don’t compliment one another in pillar candles. Hello Chris, thank you for letting me you saw the answer. No I don’t stir inside the candle mold once poured. I have tapped on the outside of the mold with a chopstick or a popsicle stick to help release air. That should help and do that immediately after pouring. Yes I used to do the hemp wicks as that was something I had on hand and no I no longer w them as they seemed to burn too high for my liking and I didn’t feel safe for my customers. Induction cooktop....only works on steel pots or most stainless,and not aluminium....because the heat transfers by magnetism to the pot.Takes less power to heat,so its quicker,and the cooktop is only warm,so you dont get burnt.hope this helps.

Hello thank you so much. Tips I have from many years selling at the farmers market and years of festivals. It’s always best to be honest, tell your customers the truth about what is your selling. Don’t ever just try to make a sell because you want the person to be happy with you and what they are buying. They say is business the customers is not just buying the products they are buying you!! They want to believe in you! If you sell online and it gets lost replace it, even though it cost you money it’s worth it because you want a happy customer. Over the years I’ve had packages get damaged or never delivered I sent more out and yes it was a lot of work but it’s integrity that counts too. Plus most come back because they trust you and know that they can order again and have a peace of mind that there package will come. Always believe in your products and you will do just fine and successful at what you do!!! All the very best to you and I know you will do very well. Thank you.

I know this is probably a loaded question but, how do you go about pricing? Do you simply charge a set amount by how many ounces of beeswax you use? Thank you so much for the videos!!!
Hello I just charge a 1 an ounce so I weigh the candles to try to figure the best price. The ones that are difficult to do or take out of the mold I had a bit extra. Plus you gotta figure in your cost from what you spend to make it. I just do the $1 an ounce of wax. Thank so much.

How do you prevent caving after pouring wax into silicone molds? Every time I pour my candles they cave really bad in the middle. Thank you very much for your video!
Hello Alexandra what you can do is pour at a slightly less temperature, however not so cool as you will get rings around your candle. Like layers. Once poured tap with a pencil or other light object to get air out. Sometimes this does happen but it’s usually only like one mold that does it. The ones that do that it’s unusually one little cave in like a small spot I just pour a wee bit more wax over that spot. I hope this helps you if not explain more as to the caving in, is it a complete cave in like the molded candle inside completely collapsing or just the small area of the hole of wax missing. My problem is, my candles don't burn long enough, and light on half side, what shoukd I do?
Hello is it your wick? Perhaps try dipping the wicks first in wax then put in your molds then pour your wax. When burning them make sure you have a nice well the first time before blowing them out. Let me know if this helps. Thanks again

Hello Mari, I am doing great thank you. You as well. Thank you for the sub. That’s so exciting it’s a great business and it never feels like a job. 💛 the pen I used is just a black sharpie pen. Take a baby wipe/ or a glass wipe (like for your sunglasses) wipe off the waxy feeling if it’s not writing. The molds will split if they are supposed too. Now the cheaper molds or handmade molds you may have to make the splits. Just always line your splits back up before pouring so they line up well. Sure anytime I will answer any questions. Take care. Hi Dawn, i am new to making beeswax candles. I am having trouble with my square braid cotton wicks forming a carbon cap or mushrooming every couple of hours. Is this normal? Do you have a specific brand of wicks you would recommend please?
Hello Jax, I buy the wicks from Mann Lake Bees but it can be imbalanced amount of wick to wax. Try using a larger wick to the candle wax. Make sure also that the wick is not too long. However this can be a natural occurrence as I get them too. I just cut them after it’s blown out or when I relight the candle.
Do you ever spray your molds so they dont stick and come out easier? Just curious... I'm looking to make some candles as well:)
Sorry I just this message. I have sprayed the molds like the honey pot and the skulls but not often. I really didn’t see much of a difference really. Thank you for asking. Spraying is ok if you want to.

Do you use 60 ply in all of the candles? Do you get a nice flame/light from them? I made beeswax votives and tried them in a glass votive container and found the #2 and # 3 square braid cotton did not burn well at all.
Hello no I don’t I only use the wick 60ply for the larger size candles and the 2/0 for the votives. Beeswax burns hotter and slower but it will have a large bright light. Honestly I never sell votives because I don’t like to take them outta of the mold. They do burn nicely my wick is a round 2/0, I buy them from Mann lake bees. The roll and cut them. Try pre dipping your wick before to see if that helps.

Do you have a temperature you are going for with your melted wax?
Hello Jennifer I sent you a message on my Etsy. Also I wanted to provide you with this information Beeswax melts at around 145°F. At temperatures above 185°F it will discolor, and at 400°F, it becomes explosive. The ideal range for candle dipping is between 155°F and 175°F. Melt your wax in a water bath to maintain a safe temperature. I don’t really have a set temperature as once I have enough wax melted to fit the mold I go ahead and pour the mold.
