Apart from looking nice these are a goldmine for winter campers. One of these lights will make an Igloo or dugout Igloo (temporarily amnesia) real nice and comfy. Provides both light and warmth inside.
Lovely video, thank you! Two small refinements that you and your viewers might find helpful. You can easily clean your knife by holding it over a flame until the wax melts away and then wipe clean. Most important, when it's time to reheat your solid wax make sure to break it up into small chunks again for even heating. Overheated beeswax will cook the honey and impede the burn quality.
Such pretty candles made with those molds. Great for gifts indeed! Love the step-by-step and tips. And just a downright beautiful and peaceful video. Putting this on my wish list of projects to do when life finally settles into a sense of (a new) normal. Love to you all!!!
Oh wow ❤❤❤ this was the best video.I looked up how to make a candle and came across this video.I grew up sitting down at the table, one special time each day for family to sit down to dinner.I think this is great to show people how to return to their roots and how family should be .
Thanks for this video, I am buying all the supplies needed to start my candle making at home. This was a very useful video because I can see a lot of items I will need to start my candle making ! I will be using organically sourced beeswax as well!
Some family members are going to raise bees, it is brand new to them this summer. I think this will be really helpful to them as candle making may be a secondary interest.
Thank you for sharing! Finally got around to finishing this one. Some very useful tips I've taken note of. Nic makes all sorts of container candles, and is always on the watch for a fun glass container that would make a good one. I started making beeswax candles in small 1oz and 2oz tins that are convenient for trips as the lid can be screwed on, and they are lightweight and compact. I did find it helpful though to mix in about 25-30% coconut oil as I was having problems with tunneling and that lowered the melting point enough for them to burn through fully. Perhaps my wicks were just too small in diameter to melt them fully but I want to use up the wicks I have before getting more. I have been dipping raw wick too. I have found the small percentage of food grade coconut oil makes it just soft enough to work up a lather with your finger and have a balm of sorts in nice tins for the field. Works perfect as chapstick for the dry winter air too. (I know beeswax and coconut oil is the base for burt'sbees)
Awesome tips! We also love making our own balms, and imo, that coconut oil is incredible! It's also nice to know that you can nibble your chapstick without harm, lol!
Awesome tutorial! If you really need to get wax off your knife, dip the blade into boiling water. It'll be hot enough to melt the wax but not damage the heat treatment of the blade. This can be done in a pot or just poured over the blade. Don't pour over a sink though as the wax will go into the drain. Love you all 💚💚💚
Great advice! I wanted to try boiling water but wasn't sure if it would mess with the steel integrity at all, especially on the edge -- good to know it won't! And thanks for reminding people about the drain -- very important to remember =) We're all sending you love and thinking of you every day as you adjust to these new circumstances!
So beautiful!! Thank you so much for sharing ❤ I have collected leftover candles for so long, because I wanted to make my own candles. Now you inspired me to finally do it 🥰
So glad you liked it! Doing a Mpemba effect short later this week, inspired by you (and linking you in the description =). We're SUPER excited for you to make your first candles!!! =)
@@ReWildUniversity So amazing, so happy you will do the Mpemba effect! Good luck! Is it cold enough? We got suddenly rainy days! Thank you so so much for linking my channel, it means soooo much ❤🙏 Btw have you seen my latest Mpemba effect? I did it in december and shared the video last week. I am really looking forward to make candles! I don´t have enough time this week, but I hope next week. I will watch your video again before I start 😊 Lot´s of love to you and your sweet family 🥰
We did! It re-inspired us. We actually did the one we'll be posting last year after you taught us -- I lost the video for a while, but finally found it and thought we'd post it as a short =) Sending you love!!!
@@ReWildUniversity Looking forward to see your mpemba!! Btw, maybe I`ll make a video too, of making candles, one day. And then I will link to your beautiful video 😘
that's a super tutorial, I love it. my sister make some beautiful candle for her home or gift, some have several colors, I never tried myself, but it seems cool to do. I didn't know you could buy some real bee wax easily, I thought you could on ly find some kind of paraffine wax which is not as good to use, and what you can find in most commercial candles. Thanks for sharing this with us. 💕
We LOVE that real beeswax. The funnest part was going on quest to find local beekeepers -- we've met two, and they always seem to be interesting people =)
Was just thinking of getting back into making candles for myself. Used to do the old tin can method, which can be dangerous if you're not being super careful. I find store bought candles are always so sweet smelling (too sweet) and don't last long. It's hard to find a simple vanilla soft scent, so gonna get back into making my own. Great video. Love those molds too. Beautiful after effects.
Kimberly, we so agree about those store bought candles. Enjoying watching your intro to your channel -- 1000 stories! What a beautiful thing you are adding to this world! =) Kenton
that is so cool thanks for showing us how you make pillar candles and showing us family dinner we don't see that much family dinner like that anymore that much just like it was back in the day sure we see some people do family dinner but not alot do family dinner anymore but like i said i respect everyone's free will and i do wish it was easy to make our own candle light but i think it still is hard to make candles and most other things and it's even harder to make a home some do share on youtube they most making a there own home which we know that's alot harder i would not make anymore if it's hard to do but i wouldn't made making it if it's easy to do the candles looks organic i never heard about the word organic before back in the day until most mentioned organic in 2010s decade and i don't know if i said happy new year to you yet or not but i want to wish you and your family happy new year i hope you have great 2023
Happy New Year to you as well, Shawn! And so glad you liked those dinner shots. We do "no tech" days, and on those days we try to use either no or very low amounts of light, computer, etc. We love having dinner together like that -- very hygge =)
Great video!! I really enjoy these videos. My wife used to make candles but she used paraffin wax and it always seemed chemically and unpleasant. Now that our financial situation is much better, you have inspired me to maybe revisit the adventure using 100% bees wax. I have also heard that bees wax Ionizes (or maybe deionizes, I can't remember) the air and attracts to dust and encourages it to settle to the the environment around it, instead of lingering in the air and breathed in. I think this might make a great homeschooling art project :) Love from Maine my friend.
I think you'll love the beeswax. Smells SO good. And we didn't know that about the possibility of ionizing the air! I'll have to research! Love and hugs from Wisconsin!! =)
Kim, I know we got them from Etsy, but we don't have that account any more and I can't find the exact link. However, lots of really nice ones if you type in Candle Molds or Silicone Candle Molds. I hope you find some great ones! =) Kenton

hello i like to ask what would happen if the wick was not in centered exact straight but wonky? i want to try this...but have to find the bee keeper and molds....i want the nice smell of beeswax candles,( i don't trust the once ppl sell) thank you for the great tutorial.
That's definitely happened to us a number of times. Basically, it will burn off to one side and eventually the wax will form a river out the side and it will burn down very quickly. The nice thing about making your own is that if you mess up the wick, there's not really any waste -- you just toss the candle into your melting canister and re-used the wax to make another one.
It's probably because the wax was not properly filtered and the small particulates in the wax are clogging the wick. You can try pouring off the molten pool or trimming the wick to expose fresh wick. It could also be too small a wick. #3-5 square braid wick for filtered beeswax.
Apart from looking nice these are a goldmine for winter campers. One of these lights will make an Igloo or dugout Igloo (temporarily amnesia) real nice and comfy. Provides both light and warmth inside.
Yes! What a great point. I'm not sure people often realize the amount of heat one of these can produce!
Lovely video, thank you! Two small refinements that you and your viewers might find helpful. You can easily clean your knife by holding it over a flame until the wax melts away and then wipe clean. I’m glad to see you join the candles Gang lol I been out the country to visit my mother I’ll be back soon wishing the family much love

Raising bees! Awesome!! I hope they do give candle making a try. I can hardly imagine getting light from wax from bees you've raised yourself!

Great tutorial, thank you!
To clean wax from tools I use hot water (and a cloth), it comes off easier while hot.
Great tip! Thank you!!!
This is the best so far I see..very detailed and informative. Thank you so much
Thank you!!!!
Lovely gift too!
Definitely!!
Wow, those are beautiful and makes a great light.
So glad you like them! We were surprised by how much light they give off -- between the candles and our oil lamps, it works great for no-tech days! =)

Inspirational! An un-candle-related question, what is the stringed instrument you’re playing?
So glad you like it, Emily! That is a ukulele, made in the style of a lute by a maker in Australia. Here is his stuff! -- facebook.com/LahleeGwyn/
Can i add scents to these and does it make any difference in a pillar candle????
You can and it does =)

What mold did you use?
I ment to ask you ken do u have what app wishing love n blessing to the family happy new year to you Becca n the girls
No, I've stayed away from that one. I can't keep up with email as it is, so I try to keep it limited =) Happy New Year to you as well!!
Why do my candles stop burning in the middle
Hmmm . . . I'd have to know more about what's happening. Are the edges getting so high that wax is pooling over the wick?
It's probably because the wax was not properly filtered and the small particulates in the wax are clogging the wick. You can try pouring off the molten pool or trimming the wick to expose fresh wick. It could also be too small a wick. #3-5 square braid wick for filtered beeswax.
Not funny. How do I make the mold?
And dont say it's on amazon. I want a custom flower of life pattern
I'd try Etsy. We got both of ours on there. I don't know how to make them ourselves, but I think there are people who do custom ones.
