First time ever commenting. I have been watching your channel for over two years but only in the pass 9 months have I implemented walking. I stared in October 2020 after a hospital stay. Couldn’t even walk 10 min but, I kept walking daily. Ten min became 15, 15 became 30, then 45 min…Yesterday, I hit 6 miles for the first time (to God be the glory)! I have the walking down but am struggling with the over eating in my window. I do the smaller plate method and I have started an old forgotten pass time, reading a book. I finish half a page or the full page before I put another spoonful in my mouth. It’s helped! Thank you for all your advice!
That's awesome, L.M.! Congratulations on hitting 6 miles. The eating part is the harder part, because there's so much ingrained habit, but just keep chipping away at it like you did your walking, and you'll get there!
One of my aunts has always eaten standing up. She eats well, and heartily, but, she stops at the bite before she is full. She also takes a long time to eat, especially if she's distracted by kids, TV, family holiday. I tried it, to see how it felt and I realized, I stop before I'm full. Also, I decided about 5 years ago, we're 50% larger today than Granny because Granny served all food on what my sister calls a kids snack plate- all Granny's plates and bowls, cups and silverware were small. Her coffee cups held 6 oz, and her chili bowls 9 oz. Portion distortion has occurred, but, by using smaller dishes, I feel like I'm eating a full plate, and I am, but that plate is 7" not 10". Thank you for all these hints. I especially agree, praying before you eat can help you to relax and focus on what is important. How and what and when you think matters, especially if you are struggling for a couple minutes of self control.
I usually order a “to go” box at the beginning of my meal at a restaurant. I divide the food and immediately place half in the box, then I have a meal for later too. Restaurant portions are so big and I’m tempted to overeat whatever is on my plate.
I’ve done this for years! Not due to any self-control sadly, but at some point read that people do this in Europe and other parts of the world, thinking we Americans are gross to put messy, half-eaten food in a box at the end. That really stuck with me and I just can’t do it any other way. 😂
This is great! Another tip I got from Plantiful Kiki was to pause and ask yourself if you could want to eat something that is boring to you, like a raw carrot or a plain boiled potato before helping yourself again. That is useful for snack cravings too, to find out if you’re actually hungry or not. One thing I would like to try is to always add a healthy dessert or plain fruit after dinner, after a pause. Then I know I need to stop, or else there is no room for it, plus I know for me I have to combat the mind-trick of «it’s just so good, I can’t help myself» however when I know some sweet fruit is coming I can stop knowing I can still enjoy a second part of the meal. A nice cup of tea works too. Replacing half the plate with salads also helps a lot, plus it is very healthy! Salads don’t get you that full, and if it does it is usually a much faster recovery (when the salad is mostly raw). And yeah, I also bring leftovers from restaurants, that’s a must in my country too!
Very useful tips. Your a great talker. I enjoyed your video. As regards not overeating I just tell myself that now I'm not as fat (45 pounds lost) I don't need to eat as much because I'm smaller.
Thank you for your videos and your book. I am truly blessed by your easy laid back approach. Overeating is something I'm still working at even after following intermittent fasting for nearly 18 months. I have years of bad habits to break. I am currently on OMAD and happy with it.
Hi, I have been doing OMAD for 60 days. I love it. I am losing weight. I want to do it long-term like you, but I'm concerned I'll keep loosing weight even after I reach a healthy weight. How do you maintain a healthy, steady weight on omad? Thanks!
I was cooking several meals at the same time and freezing them for later...of course...some of the extra for the freezer ended up on my plate that day. I quit doing that and only prepared enough food for my OMAD meal that day, 1 steak, 1 chicken breast etc... so I don't have the food prepared to over eat.
Thank you for all the advice, I am finding it difficult to stop eating when I am full, also always fancy a dessert but am still in the mindset of food being naughty or good also feeling guilt around food. I have successfully been following a 16/8 fast but not lost any weight on the scale after 3 weeks although my clothes are looser.
I do the same thing. What I figured out that works for me is I eat my salad and vegetables last, almost like a second meal. That fills me up and it's good stuff. I do eat large salads like Spring Mix and it's so fluffy you can eat large portion and it's only a few ounces really.
@@meghoughton562 If you cut your eating window shorter very gradually, your body adjusts. So you feel your body burning the reserves, but you are not suffering/famished…. When eating window arrives the hunger comes for me. But first week of going to 16/8 was kinda hard for me, but also felt good, I would start to feel a "rush" of my body sending reserved energy to my limbs, it felt slightly like when alcohol first hits the bloodstream. I'm at 2 meals a day right now, and feel perfectly fine in my non-eating time.
Thank you so much for your content. You are the calm amidst all the IMF noise on RUclips. So glad I found your channel. Can you talk about what true hunger feels like for you?
I always encourage people to use whatever they need to get them through the fasting window. I drink cream in my coffee, for example. (: In my book, lemon in water is fine.
After years of going back and forth between under and over eating, i no longer have hunger or fullness cues. I can go 3 or 4 days without feeling hungry, and have actually fasted for that period of time too because it felt so easy. But when I decide to eat because it's been a long time since my last meal, and I know I should, I don't get any signals that say "im full, stop" . I know this must be due to some metabolic issue due to dieting, but I don't know how to fix it.
I have worked on this with my nutritionist. It is often recommended to have a set schedule of 3-5 meals a day and stick to it, even if you don’t feel hungry. Over time you will start to recognize hunger and fullness again. Maybe do more research on it, but that was what I was taught. I guess that goes again 1 meal a day, but I don’t believe there is only 1 right way to do anything. For me I don’t do that, but I still learn slot from this lady.
I'm the same. its very hard to stop. I am setting timer to wait 5 hours after first meal. (am eating 2 meals per day with 5 hour window between. and limiting eating window to 60 minutes). so, If I eat from 10:30-11:30, I know that I will eat again from 4:30-5:30. Then fast 17 hours. Its not OMAD, but its a start.
And you know what also you could do when they self you the food ask for small plane you from the play drink water before their or apple cider vinegar or something healthy and by the time you finish eating the food cuz I know I used to eat to be bloated not no more I eat.
I know. That has to do with how you were Taught to eat growing up. Our parents teach us many things, including the relationship we are supposed to have with food. The lesson I got was "No waste! Eat it All!" But my subconscious doesn't know the difference between scarcity and abundance. So if I see food I have the compulsive desire to eat it. But with discipline we can renew our mind. Recently I packed food for a 5 day trip. The first day, I was surprised to see this subconscious desperation to eat all the food even though I wasn't hungry! Thankfully I had my sister with me and I was able to talk out what I was noticing in me. The "finish your food!" Command was all encompassing in my mind and I realized I have to replace that command in my mind with something more realistic. It takes time, so be patient with yourself. Celebrate every victory and in this way you motivate yourself to do better every day

Thanks for sharing that! I've not tried standing up for the whole meal.
Yes!! A lot of modern plates actually look like chargers or platters!

I have simply found that eating once a day stopped me from overeating.
You're not overly hungry by the time you get to your one meal?

Can we add few drops of lemon in water while fasting.

Messed up bad today! Being upset I turned to food! Horrible…. No control… so disappointed in myself! 😖
Thank you

My problem is once I start eating I cant stopping. So I graze through all my window....
Have you tried a "no grazing" rule?

So true! I overate yesterday.
I'm begining to think that's my problem 😃 like now... But I was so hungry all day!
Sometimes I know perfectly that I’m already stuffed but I just can’t stop eating
