  • The U.S. Marshals Service's Special Operations Group (SOG) conducts the 2024 Selection Course, a multi-month training process to evaluate USMS deputies, or candidates chosen to attend, on becoming members of the SOG team. Candidates undergoing selection endure a physically and mentally demanding process designed to assess their suitability for high-risk operations. The selection course includes rigorous physical fitness tests such as push-ups, sit-ups, a timed run, pull-ups, swimming, rucking and an obstacle course. Candidates also undergo advanced shooting assessments, tactical training, and written exams administered by SOG cadre covering various topics from communication, weapons handling and team tactics. The course is conducted under high-stress conditions to simulate real-world scenarios, testing each candidates’ ability to remain focused, make quick decisions, and work effectively in teams. The 24/7 monitored selection process is challenging, with strict standards and evaluations, aiming to identify individuals who demonstrate the necessary skills, resilience, and determination to become effective team members. Established in 1971, SOG is a rapidly-deployable elite unit capable of conducting complex and sensitive operations throughout the globe to further the rule of law. SOG handles missions ranging from high-threat prisoner movements, witness security operations, national emergencies, civil disorder, protection of at-risk health facilities and personnel, large scale seizures, actions against anti-government and militia groups, international stability and reconstruction efforts, and other missions as ordered by the U.S. Attorney General.

    For everyone asking why they’re doing this: In this specific video they’re covering SOG (which is their national SWAT). That’s why it’s a selection. I’ve been a Marine and in Law Enforcement for 10 years, I’ve been on the USMS Fugitive TF and it was a BLAST. A good number of police are prior military 1. And 2. I don’t understand why people think selections should be exclusive to the military there are POGs (admin cooks etc ) that go through USMC bootcamp which at one time was pretty tough. And for what? they’re never going to touch combat 9/10. SOG in particular has been in Afghanistan and Iraq and hunts the worst criminals the U.S. has to offer we should WANT our police (especially federal law enforcement) to hold themselves to a high standard. Its crazy people want good cops and criticize them when they implement proven training methods lol

      @@ICALLBS-tb2kx So I’m not sure specifically what the SOG requirements are but to be a Marshal 21-36 (time in military service reduces your age in most govt agencies ie 40 with 4 years makes you 36 for eligibility purposes) their PT test isn’t bad it’s like 1.5 mile 1 minute push-up test 1 minute sit-up test and a s Sit and reach test: Measures flexibility. But the selection and their academy are both notoriously physically grueling.

    Screaming like an out of control child is unprofessional! When I went through the Special Forces Q Course there was no yelling. It was professional, they gave you the Task Conditions and Standards told you if you want it give it your best then recorded your performance. I was a Deputy U.S. Marshal after the Army and the SOG Deputies, most who never served in the military, acted like tough guys (we called them Badge Heavy). Not exactly what you want for a professional law enforcement officer. If you want to be in the military..enlist, if you want to be in law enforcement..intend to serve the public. I have more respect for professionalism, not wanna-bes.

      They saw it on a movie, so that’s how “training” is supposed to be.
      This is one of my MAJOR complaints about the U.S. military training system. None of this stuff prepares you for combat and actually destroys the cohesion of a unit. I’ve never been attacked in Iraq by a guy with a fat dip in his lip yelling at me to do pushups. Never once did I have an NCO take me and make me 3 to 5 second rush until I passed out with only grading my performance quietly to smoke me. Nope it’s all yelling screaming and genuinely completely unprofessional behavior. Truly what’s worse a 6 month private late to formation by a minute or the 8 year e6 yelling profanity’s at the top of his lungs in his battalion’s area so any passing unit can hear? It’s truly only a matter of time before stuff like sweeping rain, hands across America, mass punishment, Joe duck, lack of actual training on corrective action, and SNCO derelictions (Art 93 violations) are brought to congress because of the recruitment issues.

    • @s.e.r.e._tech
      @s.e.r.e._tech Месяц назад

      @@fathead8933 I agree with your statement. This is the difference between experienced military professionals and law enforcement individuals thinking acting like out of control crack addicts makes them look tough. After the Marshals Service I joined the FBI and worked with the CIRG. They get it. Their selection course was modeled on the SF and Delta Operator courses. They don’t go around screaming like crack heads discovering fentanyl for the first time. The Marshals Service is a great organization but I don’t want to burst any bubbles here but after going through a similar “boot camp” at FLETC and your all geared up to chase fugitives the reality they don’t tell you is your first two years will be sitting in the back of a Federal Courtroom in a suit and tie making sure no one acts up and trying to stay awake after lunch. If you’re lucky you may get tossed a cold fugitive warrant that you need to run whenever it’s a slow Court day. A good day is getting assigned to drive a van of prisoners around to various Sheriff Offices on contract to hold prisoners when the MCC is full. SOG is NOT the elite unit in the Marshals Service. The elite unit is WITSEC. These Deputies are Inspectors, operate out of unmarked offices in the Federal Building, are independent, have unmarked vehicles, special covert weapons and access to special DOJ programs to relocate and change the identities of cooperating witnesses against the: Mafia, Biker Gangs, terrorist groups, etc. But it takes years to qualify for WITSEC and it’s by invitation only. They watch all the junior Deputies and decide who they want to bring in. They work with the other DOJ LEAS , Treasury LEAs and Intelligence Agencies. Because of my previous SF background SOG tried to recruit me but as soon as saw how unprofessional they were acting I politely thanked them but wasn’t interested. As an aside, my prayers go out to the family of the Deputy killed in the line of duty yesterday. It’s a hazardous job which makes “professional” training and leadership that much more important.

      Probably just to add stress, these people have probably never had to deal with high stress and they need to see who will crack from just a little yelling. • @Samorroctiv

      @@ADDAmericanit’s literally to induce stress and frankly if you can’t handle being yelled at, I don’t want to be on the line with you! Straight up! I’m currently leaving the Army because of how unbelievably soft some parts of it is now. If you can’t handle the “indoctrination” of a specific unit, then don’t join the unit. “Well tasks conditions standards.” Okay, cool, task conditions standards here is to survive a smoke session if you’re bothered by it don’t join like holy crap. “Unprofessional” the purpose of the marshals is to put away felons not be a friendly neighborhood, cop like seriously.

    • @s.e.r.e._tech
      @s.e.r.e._tech Месяц назад +13

      @@ADDAmerican There are a number of ways to induce stress in a more realistic and mission focused way. When in basic and jump school what do you do when a DI or Black Hat are yelling nonsense at you? You tune them out till they find a new chew toy. In a high value fugitive warrant service if you’re yelling like a maniac someone is going to get hurt or worse. Why was the Q Course professional without juvenile antics but still stressful? Each task was clearly explained and time based, but they never told you the time or distance. So you had to push yourself not knowing if you were making time, distance or any other factor. You had to push yourself and do your best if you wanted it bad enough or quit. That’s the ultimate stress test, self induced stress! Not some guy acting like an idiot! This self induced stress is a common evaluative technique in most of the Special Operations selection courses. It’s used by SF, the Delta Operators Course, the SAS/SBS Selection course, the former Selous Scouts and South African Recce selection courses. Neither the FBI CIRG/HRT or Secret Service CAT run selection like an enlisted boot camp and neither should the Marshals Service. But that’s why they are not taken seriously by the other Federal LEAs despite having the broadest jurisdictional authority. Don’t forget these Deputies already went through the FLETC Criminal Investigator Course followed by the Marshals Academy so they already went through that basic training. All are experienced Deputies and then they have to go through this ridiculous nonsense? I was still in the SF reserves with 12th Group when I was a Deputy and when I saw this I had zero interest in volunteering as the training time could be better spent on mission focused high value warrant tactics and weapons proficiency. What makes CAG, DEVGRU and MSA/TFO superior Tier 1 Operators? Firearms proficiency! They train on the range and kill house constantly! If the USMS wants to develop proficient SOG Operators treat the candidates with respect, give them self stress induced realistic evolutions, and get their asses on the range & kill house and see who has the: temperament, motivation and firearms skills to be an outstanding Operator. But I’m not holding my breath if this ridiculous USMS video is how Headquarters wants the American public to see the Marshals Service and SOG. WTF were they thinking?

      This particular Law Enforcement agency does operations everywhere in the world, they participate in raids with Mexican marines. They need a selection because this is a special unit within the Marshals, even in local LE we had a selection for SWAT, FBI has a selection for HRT, hell in the Army there's a selection to go to some units that aren't even special forces. A specific arrest, even within the US, might be against a cartel hitman (they've been here for years). Having a selection makes it so they can drop those that can't meet the shooting and fitness standards, the general standards aren't that crazy for most Federal LE positions, but can get hard for their special units.
