- Recruits at the Infantry Training Centre Catterick have to earn the right to wear their Regimental Headdress. But first they must pass the Drill Test and answer questions on their Regiments Battle Honours and history. Once successful they can then wear their Berets with pride

well done lads ... i passed of the square in 1984 and know how daunting it can be ... as with all army life you listen to your instructors and senior soldiers and you cant go far wrong ...
If it ain't raining - it ain't training....
If it aint snowing, we aint going (Otterburn....Circa Roman 9th legion)
My aging memory keeps telling me that it can't be Catterick if it isn't raining .... or snowing ... or windy ... or all those at the same time - Glad to see that some things don't change ,- nothing quite like a drill test in wind and rain !
drill is brill !
it makes my knob throb !
You in the woods with your boots on makes my knob throb Gav....
Honestly in the multicam and caps I had to remind myself I wasn't watching the US army for a second
Been there, did the drill and got my beret many many moons ago, I have to say I loved drill, I know many don't; but watching a bunch of schoolboys becoming a cohesive unit over a few weeks is a joy ; and they feel pretty proud too. Happy to see them as drenched as I was in Catterick...two things never change..Lance Corporals and the weather. I made it to Major so had my revenge haha
@gerard burton I did a "Potential Officers " course for 10 weeks In Cambrai Barracks in 1979 prior to Sandhurst..We were Troopers P/O, so basically the lowest of the low
I did my drill test in Harrogate 2 weeks ago was a good feeling can't wait for pass out parade
Swapping your trogg hat for your beret and cap badge 1st big proud moment. Thought the Fusilier Sergeant was well turned out and the drill was of a good standard and the recruits looked sharpe. Took me back to 78 @ strensall York.
Did this back in '07. Good times.
Passing out in 2002 in the guards division very memorable
But drill good exercise
I can’t wait
So many nice hats.
Excellent, well done chaps!
passing of the sq to get your beret remember it well, depot kings div strensall 1983, Burma plt , sgt Callaghan Green Howards top bloke
My dad went here in 2009 for his 26 week infantry training
hey, were's the Gib Reg berets?
Well done lads. Quick question - Why are they in MTP? The drill test used to always be in barrack dress.
The recruits aren't issued with Barrack dress anymore. NCOs get issued it at Battalion, to wear when on Duty
@@alanurwin7619 Sweet baby Jesus! How do they get ragged at inspection if they don't have shirts that crease as soon as you look at them?
Groucho if they wanted to rag them for inspection they’ll always find a reason.
Maybe the case in caterick. At pirbright you do your drill test in barrack and you don't call timings either
@Margate,after you pass the drill test thats when you stop calling timings.
Fucking loved drill takes me back
F,ing Helles, I passed off on that square in 74.... my old 3 troop lines looked over that square.... they are really keen on changing step with the new system, not the old one! And they still don't teach Guards drill.
Do you also get issues your flashes and belt or is that later?
At the Drill Test now the recruits get their Regimental Stable Belt and Flashes. It used to be after the March and Shoot, but under CIC18 it changed
Why are they in mtp kit???
The British army mad mtp 😂
Why are the rifles doing that weird drill and marching so slow ???
Redvers Battersby the rifles have separate drill to the rest of the army and they call their bayonets swords
3D time I know that's the question why are they being taught something which they have to pass which they'll never use or why aren't all the made to do rifle drill and pass it after all it is very very very simple
I can see me!!
and his 2's trousers could be a fraction shorter too. its the little details.
Why are riflemen doing heavy infantry drill ??????
It was due to the recruit intake numbers at the time being low. Not enough to make a full Rifles Platoon so they had to be intergraded with other Cap badges, but with a Rifles Section Commander as their instructor still. Once they arrived at their Battalion they would conduct an induction phase which included Light Drill Instruction
The army sill the same
At least they can spell....
that sergeant`s saluting is a bit bolo
A bit like his trousers...
Unfit to instruct drill, sinks his arse when halting, trousers don't fit and his salute hi 3 inches off his head. 2 medals? I would not like to see his tactics lessons.
Freeze frame at 0:38 and they show themselves to be a right shambles. The right hands are everywhere from waist to ear level. Surely one of the aims of drill is working in unison. Call me an old hippie but there's no sense of them working together. They look like they just met each other moments before the parade and there's no sense of them being a squad.
0:43 and 0:50 they are executing individual versions of the mark time. Some legs at right angles some with foot back at 45 degrees.
2:05 man at left end of front rank. Is he injured? Why is he tilting his head back like that? Did he miss some of the training?
Pl Sgts Drill is also shite…..lazy approach to the Inspecting Officer.
Drill, what an entirely pointless endeavour 👎 #screamers
