This music is beautiful!!! How I would like to go back to that time, the 80s, even without the Internet, cell phones and today's technology. We were happier, we had more friends, we left the house more, to talk and live life, without fear and in safety. The world today is a cold, sad, dark and sick place.
I hear you and agree, but unfortunately, every era is cold, dark and sick for many people. My Father was a psychiatrist at that time, so we were aware of the hidden tragedy all around us. I learned a valuable lesson though, simple as it sounds, life is what you make it. The challenge of happiness is to create it for yourself and those you love whether you live in an era of comfort and safety or a time of plague and war.
@@myssaaquatica9294, i really liked your comment! Your phrase reminded me of a song from "Talk Talk", which I also really like, which is called: "Life's What you Make It", from 1986. Greetings from Brazil !!! 🇧🇷🙏👊🏻😉.
We all said the same thing in 1981! It's always been a sick ugly demented cold dark place what ever the decade. But a lot less back then they say, nah, only if you were dealt the wrong cards or hung around bad sick people. Unfortunately it has always existed. 1950's to 1970's same old crap.
Takes me back to 1981, I was 15 and a girl I was crazy about had just moved away unexpectedly. I watched the moon rising over the straits of Mackinaw and this song came on the radio, still gets me after all these years
Just about my favorite song of 1981 - it's just magic - the synthesizer in the bridge never fails to give me goosebumps. The mood of the song and that voice. Hasn't lost a thing over the years either. Turned 16 about the time this was a hit. Good times.
Gary Wright was a handsome man...talented musician and songwriter.. wherever you are in the afterlife Gary, I hope you are resting peacefully creating awesome spiritual songs that are beyond the comprehension of this universe..
This song Really Wanna Know You and Dream Weaver were always on the radio in the 80's and 90's. Life was better in those days. I wish to go back in time and never return to today.
I love the dreamy sound to this song. I love Gary Wright's rasp in his voice. The synthesized instrumentals remind me of the 1975 song: "I'm not in love"
The Golden Age of 80s rock music and of MTV music videos! Miss those days. I thought no one would ever get tired of music videos but MTV did. Interest in music videos waned and then MTV went into a different direction. 80s rock music faded into the future and music videos disappeared into the pages of entertainment industry history. I tend to separate 80s rock music into two periods, 1980 to 1983, then, 1984 to 1990. Some fans feel 80s rock lingered on into 1992 or so, but let's stick to chronological years. I divide the 80s into two periods for two reasons. I sense a difference in the music of the very early 80s compared to the middle and late 80s when European rock bands contributed significantly to the 80s rock music scene. Also, for sentimental reasons, the very early 80s marked the end of my nostalgic college years.
This is my favorite Gary Wright song. Riding on a dreamy synthesizer wave, back to the early 80's. And I like the video. His dream lady, elegant and in the distance, still out of reach...
I had the same feeling. I know “Dreamweaver” is Wright’s most well known song - and rightly so. Yet this song deserves attention in it’s own right - no pun intended. It didn’t crack the top 10 but it was a slow burner on stayed in the charts for 17 weeks during the summer of 1981. It was good time to be a music fan and a teenager.
I remember going to visit my neighbors when I was about 12y/o. They had this album playing on an old record player. I remember hearing this song--thought it was really cool even though I was only 12. Still remember the macrame plant holders, the beaded bed-room curtains, and the awesome 70's record collection they had. They were still stuck in the 70's. The spittin' image of characters off the movie Dazed and Confused. They got me hooked on some really good tunes! Thanks Kim and Jeff!
This brings me right back to high school when I was so in love with someone. Phew right back. 💖💖 love your music Gary- such a great voice and your synthesizers. You were loved by so many of us and you will be missed forever.
I was only 18 years old in 1981 when that song came out. I still enjoy watching the video and listening to the song. Sad to hear that Gary Wright just passed away. Rip Gary Wright.
I was also 18 years old in 1981 when this song came out. It should’ve been more popular at that time.Never get tired of hearing this song. Rest in peace Gary Wright
@@patriciabove7652 I just wanted to let you know that I still enjoy watching that video. I still think that song and video is still great. It's great to see a reply from someone My Age. Thanks 👍.
Huge thank you and gratitude for Gary Wright's musical talent and contribution. His songs all had a spiritual connection to Source about them, and they have that special resonance for so many throughout the years. Funny used to play "Really want to know you" for almost each new date I had back in college days. Have to say it went over very well. Thank you Gary for that extra success! Lol!
This was one of the first music videos that I ever watched on MTV in late-1981 and early-1982. It was a great song and music video, and I haven't watched it anywhere since then, until now. Thanks, William O. Lima, for sharing this very -rare music video by Gary Wright here on RUclips.
Omg l love this song , I was still in my Country Nicaragua back in that year when they would play that song all the time on the radio , years later I returned to my country back then and heard it gain after so many years .. , I was riding a taxi in the capital and the song came out on the radio and I started singing it all the way , it borough a lot of good memories !
Love that little rasp in this guys voice. Dream Weaver and Love is Alive have all of these layers and overtones. Such cool writing. Such an interesting artist. So sad he's gone.
I still remember VJ Alan Hunter laughing about Gary Wright's earnestness in this video. But Gary had the last laugh - this is a great song, Top 20 in the U.S. in 1981.

The Golden Age of 80s Rock Music was also pre-personal computers and pre-Internet. This was a favorite song of mine yet all the time I had no idea what Gary Wright looked like. Seriously. I didn't have cable television until for a short time in 1983. But I never saw Gary's music video on MTV all that short time I had cable television in 1983-early 84. People were still using rabbit ears for their television or most commonly, had large antennas installed on the house rooftop and connected by a cable to the family television. Watching this music video, Gary Wright's face doesn't match his voice, in my mind. I imagined a totally different white guy, younger, brunette, edgier looks, face and beard stubble; typical of a rock band rocker. Gary Wright looks like he would be singing country music.
The second best NEW AGE hit song of all time, maybe? (First place goes to Enya's Orinoco Flow, aka Sail Away!) but lack of airplay means so few people then and now are familiar with it. i Think this may be even better than Dream Weaver, the song that introduced Captain Video to the world.

From 1981. Peaked as high as No. 16 on the US Billboard Hot 100 Charts.
This song is of a time and place, and has a certain "feel" to it. On top of that, just a great tune.
Before the eighties became "the 80's".....
