Using chestnut wood for the sills is a great idea, where I live we use red cedar for water and termite resistance, chestnut wood is really rare and doesn’t occur naturally for us.
Aluminum sheet can help stop termites. You slip it between the footer stones and the beams and beam supports. The aluminum doesn't corrode easily or quickly, and it changes to match air temperatures quickly and easily, so the termites either freeze or bake inside their little mud-tunnels over the aluminum's surface.
I've never gotten to see termites because of how far north I live. They are uncommon to non-existent here. Thank you for making a video explaining their process and how to treat for them. Its always enjoyable to learn something new watching your videos.
Good day to you Shoyan and family. Shoyan. You ever had any apprentices come over from the state's? The amount of knowledge to sponge up is incredible. Anyone would be blessed to have you as a Mentor. 🙏🏿
True life adventure, never know what's around the next corner. Well done! Thank you for making your excellent movies. I am learning a lot. 本当の人生の冒険、次の角を曲がったところに何があるかは誰にもわかりません。よくできました!素晴らしい映画を作ってくれてありがとう。たくさん学んでいます。
Very thorough! I have had success limiting Formosan [super] termite damage using baiting systems rather than risking ground contamination with chemicals. The system requires regular monitoring and is therefore more expensive. But it end-targets the queen, rather than just creating a chemical barrier which the remaining termite army can reroute around.
I love the reality of projects like this. Oh, we'll start out small and then the next thing you know you have to rip everything out and start fresh. Sorry the project turned into what it is - but in the end it will be just that much better. As always I look forward to watching your work. Thanks for sharing!
Shoyan, I love your videos! I'm sorry you had such an unwelcome surprise with those termites. Hopefully, you won't have such bad luck now that it has been treated. Wishing you and your family well during the renovation!
I love watching every video you make. So precise and methodical. It's nice to see that it's not only me that has problems when doing a 'small' restoration job. 😲
it is so often that a small change to a room, or closet, or stairs, you find carpenter ant or termites, and now face a "ground up" renewal! In your casement including the "ground"! Sugoi, finding termites, and keeping up the detective work to be sure that they don't rebuild!
Top Marks, as usual...we've had to fight those pesky little creatures, not an inexpensive experience; but yet, I must still agree with Will Rogers, "It's better to have termites in your house, than a legislature..."
Channel is really taking off. A funny part about the channel is Shoyan using AI. The best part about the AI voice is hearing it trying to be humorous. 😁 The termites we call them subterranean termites. They dry out fairly easy. Thats the reasoning for the mud tunnels they create when the exit any wood material. Great channel.
When the multi tool first appeared I was very skeptical about how useful it would be. Also, in my country (australia) it was advertised on late night television via one of those “As Seen on TV” never ending commercials. The kind that has a man speaking loudly about how amazing the product is and saying “but wait, there’s more” 🤣 All of this made me doubt the multi tool product. I don’t know if multi tools have improved, but these days I see many many makers of all kinds and skill levels using their multi tools and saying how much they appreciate it.
Chemicals like that are not the only way. I would look for a bait system that would only kill termites and not other insects. It will also not contaminate the groundwater or the ground itself. We have had them in the United States for about 30 years. Japan should have them as well.
I dont think there is enough flow in his crawlspace for those chemicals to reach grondwater before they denaturate. And why would you want any insects at all inside you building...
@@mexdek2061 Spiders are good for the house as an example. Secondly the chemicals do breakdown over time. Also any area that is not touched will leave an opening for them to enter the house. A bait system prevents that. I can explain more but why should I? You have no clue about a chemical treatment vs a bait system. I do.
Does Japan have a house tenting system for termites? I've seen buildings completely covered with a large tarp and then Vikane gas is used. The house must be tented for 24 hours and it suppose to kill all termites and any other kind of insects in the house. I've heard that the "best" chemical for ground termites is Chlordane. I wonder if that is available in Japan...🤔
I see you have a band aid on the back of your hand. I always say the job isn't done until I bleed on it. Very nice work. Thank you for your videos and talent.
From renovation to remove the floor. 😅 termite aren’t no joke my house has to remove all wooden floors because of termites. P.S. May I ask what the pants you are wearing are called? I am looking for practical pants to use. Thank you very much.
“My wife started complaining again, so I decided to tackle it.”

"Happy wife, happy life"
My weekend often starts like that. You think it might change after a while, but it never does. I'm 68 and have been married for 47 years.
🫀🫀🫀 I felt it deep in my heart!😂
I can't tell you how cute that was to hear him say that. Shows how much he honors his wife by making sure she's happy and their home is safe 😊
I like the inclusion of some of the original conversations!
i wasn't already invested into a different career, i would have taken up carpentry simply because of how satisfying your videos are!
In the USA, copper sheeting may be installed between the concrete block foundation and the wooden sill plates to repel termites.

I applied wood hardener to old wood boards that were very soft. It worked! 10 years later … still hard.
Very thorough!

House is still built way better than most homes here in the United States.
39 minutes old, turning on notifications paid off!
Moisture is key to control of termites. Cypress can absorb moisture from air if environment is high humidity
Wow that plywood is like paper after 40 years. Good thing you decided to replace it.
Thanks
It is our lot in life to serve those we love. "Honey do" Multitool to cut joints, outstanding.

Beautifully narrated and put together. Very insightful and a pleasure to watch.

Nice work.. In Hawaii we use 'Boric acid liquid ' I dip the ends of wood in this solution as I build , then spray it all when closing it up..
Happy wife, happy life. 😊
Great job Sir from the USA !
I really enjoy watching your videos.

Did you know that termites are blind and they make the dirt tubes to protect from light as well as predators
Bad day for the termites 👍
Happy wife, happy life! Haha
good work.
Thank you, Shoyan. 👍👍👍
Great video and info. Have a blessed weekend.
Can you buy fipronil in Japan? the liquid and foam are great for termites.

Watching your master carpenter skills at work in Japan and an American commercial came on adverting gorilla glue to install a garden gate 😂😂😂
Good episode
Awesome Video and Like always nice Skills. I hope you Teach your Son in this Craftsman Work.
Is the Kitchen Rebuild Series done?
I always wondered about the multiple sills in Japanese house design. Was it maybe done for easy replacement in case of termites?
You never tear down a house without finding something outside of the budget to take care of... XD
Shoyan, do you ever reuse old stuff from demolitions?
Hello! Where can i find these plastic posts you use to support the beams?? Thank you in advance!
Use tar in the joints, you will never have termite damage
Can't get chestnut in the states because of blight. How available is it in Japan?
I see you have a band aid on the back of your hand. I always say the job isn't done until I bleed on it. Very nice work. Thank you for your videos and talent.
Google AI is spitting out ads for pest block spray foam. Creepy.
Love your videos! You are a true craftsman! The way you explain things is easy to understand! Keep up the excellent work!

Nvm, just found it blueb working pants. 😃
🙌🙌🙌
Hopefully the pest removal was 100% successful, termites are "guests" nobody wants 😖
U tha fuckin goat
I'm sorry, I'm going to be rude and pedantic for a moment: closets and pantries ARE storage spaces, you don't have to correct yourself that way.
Dude! Be nice when talking about your wife please 😳
Buy wife sake
The ghost in your house didn't like that you were removing that wood and the termites @ 6:00
