Also the Incredibles are totally based of the fantastic four in the comics with the mom having the same powers as reed Richard's and the fact the us four of them if you don't count Jack Jack also that was a big part of the comics was the fantastic four being heros but also having kids being a family
@@maxvickrey4357 Not to mention that the Dad has Ben's strength (though not his rocks) and the Son has Johnny's speed and recklessness (though not his flame).
Their powers are also the four elements of classical philosophy - Earth (Ben), Air (Sue), Fire (Johnny) and Water (Reed). Dr. Doom is the fifth element of Eastern philosophy - Metal.
Fantastic Four is one of the most underapprecaited Marvel movies. It truly played on the family dynamic and the camp which is truly what The FF is all about!
I remember seeing this with my mom when i was a kid. We both loved the Thing because not only because he's a badass but he also learned to accept what he is and gave up being normal to help his friends. Being different isn't always a bad thing after all.
The whole Incredibles family is an allegory for the Fantastic Four, they just didn't want a kid always playing with fire, so they gave Dash blazing speed instead, while being a personality match for Johnny.
Fun Fact Addie the fantastic four is marvels first family. It was their first superhero team for the marvel universe. Stan Lee has also stated that Doctor Doom is one favorite villains he’s ever created.
Hi, Addie! The Incredibles were inspired by the Fantastic Four, and have similar powers. When the FF were created, the inspirations for their powers were the 4 elements- Ben is earth, Johnny is fire, Sue is air, and Reed is water.
One of the best superhero movies of the 2000s IMO and they're actually called "Marvel's First Family" because they're the first characters introduced in the comics ever since the company was rebranded to Marvel in 1960
I thought they got the bickering between Johnny and Ben perfectly. Michael Chiklis was a huge fan since childhood and wanted so badly to play the Thing. And that is the comics correct name.
You're exactly right to make the connection with The Incredibles. When those of us who were familiar with the Fantastic Four watched The Incredibles for the first time, 🤦♂ was a pretty common reaction.
As someone who has been a fan of the FF in comics since the late '70s, it was so fun to see you enjoying this movie through fresh eyes! Maybe try the sequel, Rise of the Silver Surfer, with the same cast.
So excited to see your reaction. And even better, these characters are already getting their own introduction into the MCU. There's an MCU Fantastic Four coming in a few years starring Pedro Pascal aka The Mandalorian.
The 90s cartoon gave some very good reasons behind why each got their specific powers They were still caught by cosmic energy, but their ship was damaged. Ben was directly exposed due to tears in his suit, Sue was trapped beneath some debris (Which ben was trying to lift), Reed was trying to reach Sue, and Johnny had been set on fire. In the comics, I don't believe they were ever elaborated upon
I honestly think this film was ahead of its time. There are ways the villain was different than the comic book (which upset some fans), but it's such a good time! Just great personality, a lot of fun, and a lot of heart. Surprisingly good special effects, too. And the sequel is even better, imo. Make sure you watch it, also!
Michael Chiklis is a big fan of the comics and really committed to playing Ben Grimm, and whatever issues the movie has, his performance has so much heart and emotion to it. He insisted on wearing the bodysuit rather than use CGI to nail the body language and wore the fake teeth outside of filming to properly learn to speak with them
Their cosmic powers relate to their personality. Reed is always reaching outside the box because of his intellect, Johnny has a temper...a bit of a hot head, Sue feels ignored, and Ben is a strong guy afraid of becoming someone who could hurt someone like a monster. 😂 Victor Von Doom a.k.a. FF villain Dr. Doom. Ben has a catch phrase..."It's Clobberin' Time!!" Johnny's is "Flame On!". 😂
Earth wind water and fire. Earth - the Thing(made of rock). Wind - invisible woman ( invisible force fields, just like the wind. Water - Mr. Fantastic( can form into any shape like water). Fire - human torch.
Reed is always trying to stretch himself too thin - becomes Elastic. Johnny is a hothead - becomes Fire. Sue feels unseen - becomes Invisible. Ben is as solid as a rock - becomes rock. Doom is hard and cold - becomes Steel.
Fun Fact: "The Fantastic Four" powers are based on Earth's elements: Mr. Fantastic [Redd - water], Invisible Woman [Sue - air], The Thing [Ben - Earth], and The Human Torch [Johnny - fire]. The F.F. is considered Marvel Comics' "First Family". Created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby in 1961, the are not so much superheroes but rather explorers of all things fantastic. 💕
It's kind of impressive how this movie managed to do solid stretching special effects for Reed Richards almost 20 years ago when Marvel now haven't really taken the chance with the one we saw in Multiverse of Madness or with Ms. Marvel, even though she has similar powers in the comics. Maybe they'll give it more of a shot in the MCU Fantastic Four movie
The key element of this movie is the family dynamics. They are a family by birth by marriage and by choice they squabble, but they all love each other. That’s what made the comic so great and that’s why the Incredibles was well incredible
Reed Richards is Mr. Fantastic Sue Storm is Invisible Woman Johnny Storm is Human Torch Ben Grimm is The Thing and obviously Victor von Doom is Doctor Doom
The fantastic four was the comic book that kicked off the Marvel comics universe in 1961 and for a 10 year run it was titled and was legitimately the world‘s greatest comic magazine. So a whole bunch of comic book fans have been waiting their entire lives to see a movie that says good as those comics were back then
When rewatching this film, it helps to think of Johnny as Tony Stark in Steve Rogers' body. As for the Stan Lee cameo, this may be the only one where he cameos as a character he wrote - Willie Lumpkin the Baxter Building postman.
Addie, I'm so glad that you enjoyed Fantastic Four (2005) because this movie was a part of my childhood growing up. This was my introduction to Chris Evans as well. I used to have the Burger King kids meal toys for Susan Storm/Invisible Woman & Ben Grimm/The Thing. See you soon for Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007).
I'm glad you noticed STAN LEE'S cameo. The character he portrayed is Stan's creation from the FIRST FF comic, and THE FANTASTIC FOUR is his first MARVEL CHARACTERS that began THE MARVEL MYTHOLOGY.
Here is an answer to a question no one ever asked. Fantastic 4 was the first comic book of super heroes I ever bought, some time in the 80s. I fell in love with them. I liked this movie, and this reaction of course. Thanks for the video.
Chris Evens (Johnny Storm) appears in Deadpool and wolverine. They are elementals Ben is earth power, Johnny is fire, Reed is liquid, and Susan is air.
It's worth noting that Namor, from Wakanda Forever, is actually fundamentally a Fantastic Four villain. Real Namor is the ruler of the Ancient Greek underwater lost empire of Atlantis (not a Central American equivalent thing), and he's in love with Sue Storm.
In the comic books Ben later realized he could have changed back but was too stuck in his head to do it. After which something happened that locked him in his Thing form & he couldn't change back.
When Ben wakes up back on Earth, the audience was expecting to see him in his new form for the first time, but the makers put that little fake-out in to let us see the metamorphosis.
In the world of comics The Fantastic Four are royalty. Unfortunately, the first family of Marvel have never quite had a movie treatment that captures that spirit.
In the original comic from my childhood (a very long time ago) there is a story that takes place in an alternative reality. It explains why everyone received this special power. In the alternative reality they had different ones, but it was also explained why
In the comics it was explained that them getting their powers was no accident. The anomaly they were studying in space was near a mysterious planet. The inhabitants of that world sent out the wave which gave the Fantastic Four their powers
I read that arc. It had some good stuff, like Ben discovering the planet's ruler had dumped everyone else who'd become a monster into a ghetto and leading an uprising, and some really bad stuff, like Johnny getting that stupid soul-bonding thing to a bird girl and Sue once again being written as a wet blanket nag about it.
In the comics, Doom is a cross between Tony Stark and Dr. Strange. His mother made a deal with the devil, so he learned magic to try to save her soul. He also has a genius level intellect.
@GMmaster99 that's because Marvel has crashed and burned with almost everything post endgame. That's why they went back to RDJ for dr doom instead of another actor and it's why that upcoming movie will be another pile of garbage imo.

I love these early 2000’s superhero films & I honestly think the cast of this is great & they do a good job showing how they all handle their powers differently similar to X men. & Spiderman & Fantastic 4 was the first heroes that Stan Lee made for marvel
I genuinely love both these movies so so much! These are my Fantastic Four, I'm hopeful for the future of marvels version of fantastic four but it's gonna take one hell of a movie to make me love it more than these.
Ben Grimm was the stand in for the artist that created the fantastic four Jack Kirby. That was him doing wishfulfilmente just an ordinary guy from the streets of New York
Four years later, the stranded Victor returns as a megalomaniacal conqueror and the others must put aside their differences to stop him as the Fantastic Four.
You have met Reed Richards before in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, but Reed was played by John Krasinski. For a long time, everyone wanted a Fantastic Four reboot to star Krasinski and his real life wife, Oscar-nominee Emily Blunt (who was the first casting choice for Natasha Romanov/Black Widow in Iron Man 2). The new Fantastic Four is cast and is as follows: - Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic) - Yep, The Mandalorian himself! - Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm/Invisible Girl) - Lots of movie work, also played Princess Margaret in seasons 1 & 2 of The Crown - Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm/Human Torch) - Eddie from Stranger Things. - Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm/The Thing) - currently on The Bear. Oh...and Doctor Doom has been recast with Robert Downey, Jr. But, it's not entirely clear if he is Victor von Doom, or an different Dcotor Doom. However, RDJ will be in the next Avengers films as the big bad. Reed Richard in these Fantastic Four movies is Welsh actor Ioan Gruffudd (pronounced YO-an Griffith). He was the Titanic officer who went back for survivors after the sinking and rescued Rose in Titanic. He was also known for his television role as Horatio Hornblower in several made for TV movies called Hornblower, which told the story o a British Royal Navy officer as he rises from Midshipman to the top of the chain of command during the Napoleonic Wars. They only covered to the point where Hornblower became Captain of the List. Ben Grimm is played by another TV actor, Emmy-winner Michael Chiklis who is best known for the series The Commish and The Shield. In the Commish he was a Police Commissioner who was a lot like his Ben Grimm character, a sweet and lovable family man who is a great cop. In The Shield, he was a sleazy, dirty cop who was into everything...and won an Emmy for it. As a kid growing up, he had a dream of playing Ben Grimm. When he got the role, he was over the moon. In many ways, Chiklis is the heart of both Fantastic Four movies...his love of Ben Grimm is obvious, even when he's playing the sad moments.
Ioan Gruffudd was also in "San Andreas" (2015) where he played a not so likable character who receives a very gruesome death. BTW for me, Pedro is always Joel Miller. But thanks for all the info on the new FF. Hopefully, it will be much better than the failed 2015 reboot.
OK, Ben Grimm in a musical number is a fantastic idea For example, he could play on stage in beauty and the beast without make up. That’s actually fantastic.
It's been a long time since I've seen this movie. Used to love the cartoon when I was a kid. This was pretty fun. Back when Marvel wasn't rapidly releasing movies yet. CGI was still coming into its own too, at this point. Great reaction. I forgot how enjoyable this movie was.
Dr. doom was a guy with a disfigured face in the comics who wear a mask and a suit of armor and was the supreme ruler of small Eastern European country so he had diplomatic immunity And he was always trying to rule the world and destroy the fantastic four for reasons, but he was like supremely evil and he was the model for well who is another baddie that wears a solid suit over his entire body and face Yep, Darth Vader
This was a fun, campy superhero movie and it didn't really try to be more than that which is why I love it! For those of us who saw Chris Evans in roles like this, when he was typecast as the jock/bad boy archetype, to see him play Captain America was wild but in a really great way! It really let us see his acting range.
Wow, RUclips changed their layout and font lol. Nice reaction Addie. Another group based in New York. There's a specific reason why your patrons had to watch this. Chris Evans was Johnny Storm aka The Human Torch before Captain America. Glad you got to see this. I suggest the sequel, as you'll get introduced to a few more Marvel characters. Please react to Ghost Rider (2007) and The Punisher (2004). Thanks!
11:36 actually, Incredibles mostly just ripped off the FF4: the mother stretched, the father was invulnerable [though not rock-looking] and as you mentioned, the daughter turned invisible and had force fields.
I recommend you check out Deadpool & Wolverine when you get a chance to, Addie. I'm sure you'll get a kick out of at least one of the cameos which involves a member of the Fantastic Four.
I'll never understand the hate behind this movie. The characters were comic accurate especially Ion Gruffudd as Mr Fantastic and Michael Chiklis as The Thing who Stan Lee has openly stated is his favourite performance by an actor in any Marvel movie. Even Chris Evans did an amazing job at Johnny Storm even if he didn't have the physical appearance of the character. MCU has not even come close to casting better actors for the role.
The Incredibles is essentially a parody of The Fantastic Four. Pixar made it back before Disney owned Marvel. Mr Incredible is basically The Thing. The big strong tough guy. Mrs Incredible is the stretchy one. Violet has the invisibility and force field powers. And Dash has super speed instead of bursting into flames, but the baby Jack Jack DOES burst in flames.
I'm so glad that especially thanks to "Deadpool & Wolverine" that more of the 'original slate' of superhero films are being brought back for people. The MCU truly would never have existed if these films didn't succeed and fail in equal measure. This movie really capitalized on the camp and the familial closeness that is the core of the Fantastic Four in the comics. It's not enormously comic-accurate, but I think it did a really good job staying true to the spirit of the characters and their struggle with accepting the consequences of the cosmic storm. Chris Evans blasted Johnny Storm out of the park. The only real complaint I have about this movie is that so few people know about the director's cut that was released later. It adds so *much* to the film, gives more to Reed and Sue, and has a secondary subplot of Victor trying to corrupt Johnny and further turn the four against each other and it makes Johnny coming through as a hero in the end much better, IMHO. But the sequel to this one, "Rise of the Silver Surfer", is actually really good and the SFX for the Silver Surfer hold up *astoundingly* well to this day!
The Silver Surfer was my favorite when I was a kid, and I was excited to hear about his appearance in next film with these characters. I keep hoping for the Surfer to return somehow in the MCU, but I know it’s unlikely.
This film is a classic to me. It’s not the best superhero movie, but the best Fantastic Four movie. Plus the actors are the best choices for them.

The new Fantastic Four is cast and is as follows:
- Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic) - Yep, The Mandalorian himself!
- Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm/Invisible Girl) - Lots of movie work, also played Princess Margaret in seasons 1 & 2 of The Crown
- Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm/Human Torch) - Eddie from Stranger Things.
In the Extended Cut of the film Reed turns into Wolverine when he says the line "A Stronger man" lol
It's going to be interesting to see Downey's take on Dr Doom
The ever loving blue eyed thing Benjamin Jacob Grimm and the human torch have always been great comic relief
Thanks!
I loved watching this movie as a kid. Johnny Storm is my favorite
I loved this movie on release - it was such a breath of fresh air after the onslaught of all the 'dark' superhero movies of the time.
It is a fun movie! When you watch the sequel, there will be a scene featuring a hole in the ice. There is a hidden Easter egg in the hole. :)
16:45 I love that you can see the mask on the right when the lights go out
Gorgeous. The latest version of The Four is due out soon, but this I think is the best to date.
One of the comics I actually read a lot when young. Seemed a pretty cool mix of powers
11:36 actually, Incredibles mostly just ripped off the FF4: the mother stretched, the father was invulnerable [though not rock-looking] and as you mentioned, the daughter turned invisible and had force fields.
Originally in the comics and cartoon Ben Grimm was able to change between human form and The Thing.
The cast for this movie was perfect
i really liked this one, the 2 movies are better than the newest one in the franchise
