@@jacksprat418-ju5qo True. It was supposed to be one long movie, but Q broke it up. Frankly, I think the split made the Vol. 1 cliffhanger a classic . . .
Agreed. I was so pissed when I saw it in the theater but every time I watched it after that the ending got better and better. It just gets enough of the story in without it becoming repetitive
One of the things that amuses me the most in this film, that nobody ever acknowledges, is that The Bride isn’t the only person with a sword with her on the flight back from Japan. I like to think that airline has Coach/ Business/ and Revenge Class seating. 😂
HA!! I have loved this film since it was released, and never noticed that! Now, I gotta go find my DVD. And blow the dust off my old DVD player down in the basement and see if it still works. 😆
It's clear that it's all-killer (no filler) secret airline, the kind of background world-building detail of an alternate world of assassins that would influence later movies like John Wick.
Yep. The seats have sword holders built in, so it seems like traveling with a sword is not uncommon in this version of Earth. I love that detail because it bypasses the "how did she get that on plane" question. Imagine the pilot having a katana just in case lol.
Addie when starting this channel: "Oh no... blood and violence" Addie now: "the ground is so beatufil and white... *gets excided* we''re going to be able to see so much Blood on this Snow !"
Oh no... we turned Addie into a bloodlust reactor! Lol The part when Addie said "The snow is so white.... We'll be able to see all the blood!" You definitely had a gleam in your eyes! 👀 Lol Addie you've changed... And I like it! Haha😂. Thanks for sharing!❤️💛
My favorite scene is "The man from Okinawa." Hatori Hanzo was played by Japanese actor Sonny Chiba, a Judo and Karate expert who starred in many popular martial arts films starting in 1973. He died of Covid in 2021.
Hattori Hanzo not only helps the Bride, but breaks his life long vow, which is no small thing, to help her... A lot of western people don't understand why he would do that so easily. But it wasn't easily. Bill was a former student of Hanzo, and in the Asian culture, the teacher-student relationship is sacred... The fact that a former student of yours is using the skills you taught them, to do evil in the world, is a huge shame and massive responsibility to the teacher. In Asian culture, it was the teacher that failed the student, so that is why the student ended up like that... And only to kill his student will make it right. Uma Thurman's character clearly understood this.
Did people really not understand this? Even without the understanding of the Asian cultural influence, it's quite obvious between the acting/dialog that he feels an immense responsibility (made more obvious by the breaking of his vow).
Kill Bill vol. 1+2 are my favorite Tarantino films. Clean and clear cinematography, sensational soundtrack, a strong storyline, elegant editing, perfect pacing and amazing acting. Tarrantino's love of cinema really shines through in both of these movies.
I saw this opening day in theaters. When Sophie's arm gets cut off to when O-Ren dies you could hear a pin drop. Everyone was stunned and couldn't believe what they were seeing. I remember my eyes started to hurt from lack of blinking. I had seen every Tarantino film up to this one and none of them even remotely prepared me for this nor anyone at the time. And waiting a whole year with that cliffhanger was brutal!
I love the lack of exposition. O-Ren Ishii is one of my favorite villains in movie history. You infer O-Ren and the Bride's friendship because she knows O-Ren's entire life story. O-Ren and The Bride saying the old Trix cereal motto in unison, obviously a inside joke, and O-Ren apologizing for mocking the Bride, a sign of respect.
They were clearly besties at some point. Both of them at times not accepted into the cultures within which they chose to inhabit and eventually rose to the top of. We can only assume that The Bride's backstory was equally as tragic. And their style of approach were similar: strength and honor. Although cottonmouth could be decidedly more deceptive. When we witness the face off between the black mamba and the sidewinder, the differences in interpretation of honor is more clear to see. Whereas the California Mountain Snake truly has none.
THANK you for reacting to this. One of his most cinematically gorgeous films. Somehow he made copious blood and violence interesting and beautiful and satisfying. Great reaction!
the fountains of blood when someone is killed with a sword harkens back to old samurai movies. There was one old black and white samurai movie that kind of started it. There was a scene where a samurai is supposed to kill a guy with his sword, a little blood comes out, and the victim falls over dead. The prop guy didn't do the fake blood squib right though. When the actor "died", a huge fountain of blood erupted, like a ridiculous amount. The director left it in; probably because they didn't have the time and money to reset and do another take. Anyways, it looked kind of cool, especially in black and white. It looked cool enough that other directors of other samurai movies started to do it. Eventually it became kind of its own trope, and you see it today in a lot of anime. Tarantino uses it here as a sort of homage to those older films. In fact, almost everything in Kill Bill (and a lot of his other movies) are call backs to old films.
Kill Bill started off as a 3-hour movie. By Quentin Tarantino being Quentin Tarantino kept writing while they were shooting the movie. And he ended up with almost 8 hours of film.. and it was decided to have volume one and volume two. But it is still considered to be one movie

This is just a stunning piece of filmmaking. It's absurd, and over the top, but with sets and shots which are amazingly beautiful. That final fight on the roof in the snow is as close to perfection as anything I've ever seen in a film. You can truly feel how formidable O-Ren is as an opponent. It's almost like watching a live-action version of a triple-A anime fight scene.
One thing I always thought - even though I don’t want Tarantino to have plot holes - is no one found Buck murdered within 18 hours and didn’t check his vehicle.
@@CyndiLarper I know comparing nursing and office jobs are apples and oranges, but I’ll just say this: a Wells Fargo bank employee was found dead at their desk recently. They had been there for FOUR DAYS!!!
@@boghagsame thought. Buck obviously had large swaths of unsupervised time on his hands. The more likely cause for alarm in that time might be Beatrix herself going missing - but again, not like she was closely looked after.
I felt personally, and with many I've talked to, that one often starts liking Vol. 1 more and feeling a little underwhelmed by the lower adrenaline level of Vol. 2, but on rewatch and after further consideration, ultimately end up liking 2 even more. I'm always curious to see which way a reacter will go, though of course we'll never know if they follow my theory after a month or year's reflection on it :)
I'm truly convinced that the final fight here was a major influence on the fight we see in The Mandalorian, season 2 episode 5, The Jedi. That was when we met Ahsoka Tano and she fights the Magistrate, Morgan Elsbeth. The Magistrate's compound has an Asian setting and we see it mirror what we saw here.
I'm an older guy. Loved Tarantino's films when they came out. Always wondered why I loved them so, until I saw Bill Vol.1. Saw that Shaw Bros. (legendary studio producing Hong Kong "Kung Fu" films) logo in the opening sequence. "Oh! We grew up watching the same stuff on Saturday afternoons!!" There weren't many 'informercials' back then - TV stations would show films like that because the broadcast rights payments were cheap. "Hanzo" is Sonny Chiba, classic-era Japanese martial arts star. "O-ren" is Lucy Liu, famous female martial arts film performer. "The Bride's" yellow track suit in the fight at O-ren's place is a tribute to Bruce Lee (In "Game of Death" he fought his real-life student NBA star Kareem Abdul Jabbar!) - it's iconic to those of us that love this stuff. Anime is frequently quite bloody. The Japanese seem to understand that "..cartoons aren't just for kids..". The little tune with the synth is from the '70s TV show "Ironside". IIRC, it was Raymond Burr's ("Perry Mason") last major role. Played an ex-Police Chief who'd been shot and was in a wheelchair. Called back to work at the PD because he was so brilliant.
Boss Tanaka was supposed to slam his fist on the table at the beginning of his speech. (15:02) He hit the plate, cut his hand, used the nakpin, and stayed in character. They were able to use that take.
24:14: "It's not really fair that she's had to fight however many people, she's going to be exhausted and you're not. This isn't a fair fight." Yep. That's the whole point of Mooks. Pad out the Hero's number so they feel like they're accomplishing something, and exhaust them so the Evil Overlord has an easier time dispatching the Hero once all the Mooks are dead and it comes down to them.
I’m liking and commenting before I watch this because this is probably my favorite movie of all time. And you are the last of my favorite reactors to watch it. So, I’m nervous. plus not sure this is really your type of movie. Anyway I love your reactions just wanted to get all that off my chest.

This and the Vol II are the best Tarantino films , absolutely stunning cinematography at it's finest ,,, so beautiful, the colours, the camera angles , muziq everything is literally perfect.....
As someone who isn’t really a Tarantino fan or fan of blood, or anime or blood or sword fighting, this is oddly enough one of my favorite films (add in v2 as well) of all time. I love the storyline, the transitions, the use od color, the action, the actors and how satisfying it is to see her get her revenge.
Love the Kill Bill movies but missed that foreshadow about blood in the snow. Nice catch! Also, I've seen your mommy bear side come out in other reactions, but nothing like this! I think you finally found villians you can really sink your teeth into. 🐻🐻🐻
I've seen that you have watched Volume 2. My favourite minor easter egg in this film is when The Bride is going to Tokyo and it flashes her plane ticket you can clearly see her name even though it is bleeped out when characters say it. Around the 16:07 mark in the above video.
I'd say that you're right, as far as I recall, this is his bloodiest movie. But it is also in my humble opinion among his best works: very artistic, true to the source material and a well-composed two-parter (as you saw with the cliffhanger). Part II will be very rewarding, I can tell you that.
Your reaction was perfect and very entertaining! A credit at the end of Kill Bill states: “Based on the character of 'The Bride' created by Q & U.” Quentin and Uma dreamed up the character during the making of "Pulp Fiction."
"I will say, this has definitely been my favorite Tarantino movie -- by far." I agree. This pair of films is the one work of Tarantino's I recommend to all but the most squeamish. It's like 300 (2008) in that way: it's worth looking past the violence and experiencing the pure style.
I saw this movie when first came out and I was exactly like you at the end. This movie is great as all Tarantino's work, but Vol. 2 is my favorite; the dialogues, the music, all the parts, are just perfect.
There have been documented incidents where people have shot or impaled in the head and survived. And some that had little or no negative side effect on them.
Volume 2 really changes the pace. It's a good companion film. There were rumors for years that his final film would be Kill Bill 3, which I would be more than happy with, but as of now that doesn't seem likely.
Back during the 70's "Splatter Films", they would reuse the same Actors and Characters from movie to movie to tie them together. Such is the case for the Tarantino films. Michael Parks played Esteban and the Chief in this Movie, then he and his Son James reprised their roles as the Chief and Deputy in the Grind house's "Death Proof" and "Planet of Terror". It's also rumored that Samuel L. Jackson's "Piano Player" was what happened to"Jules Winnefeld" after he quit being an assassin in "Pulp Fiction".
His homage to the epic martial arts era films . Bill was played by David Carradine of the Kung Fu TV series. The swordmaker was played by legendary Japanese actor Shinichi "Sonny" Chiba. His name in the film was the name of a renowned real ninja.
@@Parallax-3D Tarantino loved him as Terry Tsurugi in the infamous Streetfighter film series. He had a blurb on the case when it was finally released on video.
"Revliving"! I want to believe that that was an intentional spelling! Because he's both reliving the storytelling of Japanese martial arts films from his younger years, *and* reviving it! 🤣

My sentiments exactly. She's terrifying, but she's freaking fantastic.
I've seen that you have watched Volume 2. My favourite minor easter egg in this film is when The Bride is going to Tokyo and it flashes her plane ticket you can clearly see her name even though it is bleeped out when characters say it. Around the 16:07 mark in the above video.
Part 2 is so good. Cant wait.
I'd say that you're right, as far as I recall, this is his bloodiest movie. But it is also in my humble opinion among his best works: very artistic, true to the source material and a well-composed two-parter (as you saw with the cliffhanger). Part II will be very rewarding, I can tell you that.
Solid editing. Fun reaction :)
Great reaction to watch, can't wait for the Vol. 2 reaction
@22:14 - “Now she has TWO knives!” 😜
☝️Jojo Rabbit reference
I saw this movie when first came out and I was exactly like you at the end. This movie is great as all Tarantino's work, but Vol. 2 is my favorite; the dialogues, the music, all the parts, are just perfect.
The most excited I've ever seen u reacting to a movie 😂😂
Gogo and the Bride both were knocked out with a shot to the temple. But only one person survived the head injury.
You made my day.
gee... 🤔 i wonder why you do not like the truck? 😂 GREAT REACTION! 👍☺
thanks for sharing your reaction to this movie..i look forward to future reactions :)
Oren Ishii: "A little off the top please."
There have been documented incidents where people have shot or impaled in the head and survived. And some that had little or no negative side effect on them.
...and now you know why there was a V2 after that cliffhanger
Kill Bill is my favorite Tarantino Movie...Uma Rocks
You seem so sweet and perfect, toward end of the movie, More blood, 😂 Volume 2 now! Loved the reaction, Thank you 😊
Volume 2 really changes the pace.
Sonny Chiba also played Hattori Hanzo in multiple TV shows prior to his role in Kill Bill. That’s why Tarantino hired him for this role.
@@Parallax-3D Tarantino loved him as Terry Tsurugi in the infamous Streetfighter film series. He had a blurb on the case when it was finally released on video.
her little dance brought me great joy
Yes probably Tarantino at his most bloody and self indulgent, he's just having a ton of fun and revliving the 70s schlock he loved seeing growing up
"Revliving"! I want to believe that that was an intentional spelling! Because he's both reliving the storytelling of Japanese martial arts films from his younger years, *and* reviving it! 🤣
It's time for some Kill Bill. I plan on watching both Kill Bill movies as a double feature when you upload Vol. 2. See you soon for that movie.
