I bought my wedding dress in a thrift store. It was perfect. It cost about $3.98 %+ tax (circa 1998).
Took it home, washed it and ironed it and it was gorgeous. Someone had made it and it was a perfect fit. Also, it was a classical gown with lace and silk taffeta folds. It took forever to iron but so worthwhile. Still happily married today, many years later. Life is expensive and spending a fortune for me was imprudent. Thanks be to God in Heaven were still standing strong today.

My whole wedding cost less than $3000 at a time when most people were spending $15,000-$20,000 .
29 years later I'm still happily married but many of the people I knew who had expensive weddings were divorced within 5 years.

I googled what happened to Kashmir and Tim, and found out he later had 2 tumors that merged together. He collapsed in 2018, had surgery and was thankfully successful. It was still an uphill battle as the article i saw mentioned he had major behavioral changes (more aggressive etc) due to the surgery (unsure) and some medication. He was discharged by his neuropsychiatrist in 2021, and the article showed a picture of the happy looking couple from 2022! Hope they’re still together now, and happy he survived.

It’s a lot of work for the brides but they usually look absolutely stunning - like a fairytale Disney production. It doesn’t cost that much as it’s a competitive industry and Chinese factories are just an hr away. It’s a good model when you don’t have anywhere to store a huge dress after the wedding.

If I was wealthy, I would get very creative and keeping the cost way down and still make it beautiful. Then I would give the rest of the money to charity to make a statement to all my wealthy guests.

These people are completely unaware of how others struggle just to remain alive. Such a waste of money and obnoxious. People die because they can't afford life saving therapy, surgery or medications and these idiots are bragging and going out of their way to spend as much money as possible. Disgraceful. They should be ashamed of themselves, especially as they didn't make the money themselves.

As we say here in Singapore…..”that’s a whole different tax bracket.” The homes are $50-$100 million in our area. Bentleys and Rolls Royces galore…..for this Aussie expat it’s beyond my comprehension. But I would have loved a carousel at my wedding😂😂

We need a when the rich get UNhitched 😂 some brides are brave booking a year or more out. A LOT can happen in a year. The purchases and deposits are super expensive but I guess some people have so much money they can spend more on their wedding that’s for one day than a non profit gets in 6 months. I get it’s their money and they can spend it however they like but for some to have so much and others so little that this much money for one day is gross.

“If you have a million why not spend it on a wedding?”
Uh my dear good sir, you don’t get anything back from a wedding. Lol it’s not an investment. It’s one day and in my personal opinion, a waste of money. My wedding was $35 which included my wedding dress. I mean if you want to blow £40,000 you do you, I’d rather invest it in other things 😂

This is an absolute dumb comment you made captain obvious, but hey it’s the internet and should always expect dumb comments lol

I may be out of line, yet seriously over $200,000? All for a piece of paper and guests. No. I like the idea of standing under a tree, saying loving words to each other, exchanging SIMPLE rings, then go off for a BBQ at a friends home. Weddings have gone way way way too off kilter.

I suppose in a world that is the reality of few, why not be extravagant, right? But, all I can think of is the millions of people who have no food, shelter, health care, transportation and more. Perhaps these extremely wealthy people are benevolent and share their money with those in need and donate to good causes. But, despite the fact that most of these brides came from 'old money' , I still find the opulence sort of disgusting and, actually, sort of sad. All that aside, I agree w everyone who said the dresses looked no different than the ones a person might usually buy. I will say though...almost every one of those gowns were incredibly classy (and the designer/creator is extremely skilled (and patient).

I can understand wanting to go all out on your wedding, it’s the one day of your life where you and your partner are the centre of attention. I love the idea of balls and such but I never got to have a prom or a sweet sixteen or anything like that and I never will have another opportunity to go to such an event so I want to make my wedding count. There will never be another point in my life where I can wear a ballgown.
But saying that, these are excessive. They’re at the point of spending money just so they can say they spent money and it’s not really making much of a difference. They’re not doing big expensive weddings because it’s what they would like, they’re doing it because they want to show off. They could save money on things but they don’t want to do that because they want an impressive price tag on the event.
