  • Today is the release of the new Beyoncé album Cowboy Carter also known as Act II (as in a part two of the trilogy starting with Renaissance). It is a album with 27 tracks with a strong country influence with covers like The Beatles' Blackbird and Dolly Parton's Jolene. This album also features collaborations with artists such as Willie Nelson, Shaboozey, Dolly Parton, Miley Cyrus and Post Malone and tracks like 16 Carriages, Texas Hold 'Em and Ya Ya. What does this album sound like?

@@rahuljoshi2728 You should give it a try, it actually sounds refreshing and innovative. Some of the songs are beyond brilliant vocally in a way that only she can pull off in today's music scene.

This album deserves a Pulitzer Prize! The storytelling on the album from the beginning to the end of the album is disgustingly good. It's a work of Art! It's a Masterpiece!

Renaissance and Cowboy Carter are both Prince like in the melding of genres with a twist of the new and a twist of nostalgia! Prince would be proud! 🤘🏾

Fully agree! Great review. It's hard to pick favorites since I love it as a whole but stands outs so far for me include II Hands to Heaven, Jolene, Daughter, Protector, Leviis Jeans, and II Most Wanted.

Blackbird was written by Paul McCartny to give black women/girls hope during the Civil Rights movement . He saw how they were being treated. That’s why all the singers on the song are black women. The others are four black female country singers.
Let’s just point out that Country radio has an issue with playing black artists so Beyoncé told everyone about her new venture during the Super Bowl then dropped two country songs. The Bey Hive activated and most country stations played her music. But to top it off, her album is presented as it’s own radio station with country legends presenting her music.
This Album was meant to be Act I. This was Beyoncé’s response to how she was treated at the CMA. The requiem funeral procession was trying to let us know that Country Music was rooted and started by blacks. If you look into the history, it started by people putting on black face for minstrel music making fun of the slaves with their banjos. Then people who are credited with starting country, came to black street artists to learn their craft. Once it became big, black people were pushed aside and they started gate keeping the genre.
Same thing happened with rock & roll, jazz, blues, and many of the genres that are considered to have been started in America. Thus, Beyoncé is reclaiming all of the music that we’ve been kicked out of that we helped create. It’s why this album delves into all those genres and ends with her buckin breaking down walls and asking if we can hear her now. Then she says that we are the ones who have to clean ourselves of our father’s sins to end the funeral procession .

Top Review..Cowboy Carter is an astonishing Album. It paints landscapes,it sends the listener on an American journey that you won’t forget. There’s lots of country songs here but it visits many genres,in fact count how many times the word Genre is used on the record . It reminds me of Albums of years ago,it’s a piece of work that is best consumed from start to finish,as there is a beginning,a middle and an end to it . This was never intended to be a collection of radio friendly,3 minute pop songs ,there are album tracks here ,that if listened to randomly, may not make sense, but listened to in the context of the full album become part of the Magic . The album is paced perfectly, the tracks just arrive as if one song is growing out of the other .
    10/10 5⭐️

Blackbird was written specifically about BLACK women in the Civil Rights movement.
Let's open The Conversation up HONESTLY if we're going to have it, shall we? ;)

This album was actually intended to be the FIRST act set to come out around the pandemic, but Beyonce decided to hold off.
Post shutdowns, Beyonce and team THEN decided to make Renaissance the first act as things were so heavy across the globe and Beyonce wanted people to DANCE and feel good after going "back outside." ;)
She this was initially Act I which is Wild when you comsider it.

B knew she had to "bring it" & she did. This could have been a reputation breaker had it been a stinker. Ok hive, tuck those stingers back in! Queen is incapable of a stinker, known fact. Like Hilary Clinton, B had to decide what is the big picture? Infidelity forces the offended party to go introspective. I'm working on forgiving you but I'm also serving notice. Add to that the disrespect shown at the 2016 event. Being a "church girl", she probably said Get thee behind me, Satan. You will not win! The more I listen to "Cowboy Carter", the more I realize how epic it is. It is a musical smorgasboard. Something for everybody. Beyonce with country sauce. I cry with joy for her for having given us a musical Valhalla. Stop the hate. Peace out.

Just bought the "special" vinyl version of the album-- about 3 times more expensive than other formats.
Very disappointed --- obviously the 5 "missing" tracks ---the given reason being that they could not include these without compressing the sound quality. I could accept this rationale but for the fact that on two of the four sides, the grooves stop well short of the centre label. At least two or three more tracks could have been accommodated.
Despite having a gatefold sleeve, there is zero information (or even an insert) with the track listing, musicians or any other credits. Had to go online to find these. There is a disconnect between the so -called "cover art " ? and the actual musical content.
Oh, and the music itself, after 4 complete listens, okay, but nothing special.
Sorry to come over as a grumpy, cloth eared old man but stating my opinion!
