Nice gentle holding of the fish, covering their eyes so they don’t freak out. Can’t wait till we master captive breeding so we don’t need to do this anymore, or maybe people could breed fish in areas of the reef so they don’t need to go out and take fish anymore

  • @Ava_Orchid

I am glad to see you are not using chemicals or stunning the fish in any way. The process is slow and the amount of fish taken is most likely very conservative. You have the ability to target only the fish that you want and leave the rest and the area undisturbed, for the most part.

As long as they are being caught and its sustainable its ok. If anything its better as its showing us the fish and giving us an interest for us to conserve the species. Mortality rates are higher in the sea than in an aquarium although some people who don't put time in researching a fish and actively looking for the best food is always a problem with sensitive fish like angelfish.

To all of you with doubts about sustainability and the methods used to capture these fish, please keep in mind that ALL fish sold into the aquarium trade have to be caught somehow, there are no traps used to avoid handling. This company uses the safest methods for collecting these fish, more countries should adopt these same collection methods and avoid the use of harsh chemicals like cyanide and bleach which hurt the fish and kill off the reef.

    • @Hueman_Photography

ALL fish have to be caught? What about tank bred? I have african cichlids, they're all tank bred and 90% of them are alot better looking than wild caught. Originally someone would have had to have gone out and caught them in the wild but that would've been generations ago, these are probably f1000 or something and still look amazing. No need to keep catching wild fish anymore. It's alot more sustainable, faster and cheaper to tank raise fish.

Over 99% freshwater aquarium species are captive breed because it is easy to breed them in captivity
Don't compare with saltwater fishes . Saltwater fishes are difficult to breed in captivity. Some saltwater fishes like clownfish , gobies , cardinals , etc etc are now easily breed in home aquarium / captive environment . So people buy the captive species . But still most saltwater fishes like wrasses , tangs , large angels etc etc are difficult to breed in captivity or some of them don't just breed in captivity still. But scientist/ people are still trying.
So there is no choice but to buy the wild caught secies ( which don't breed in captivity ).

I have quit saltwater fish when I learned that between 5 and 20 fish die (depends on the collector), for every one sold at retail. They die from catching (sometimes using cyanide), handling, transportation, aclimation to a "glass box" vs a reef, and a whole lot of other injustices that they endure when caught. Saltwater fish that are tank raised like clowns are fine

It's a much less cruel hobby then fishing. And much more people fish then have aqauriums. If you don't know how to look after an aqaurium then i would say don't keep fish. However if you have the knowledge to maintain an aqaurium and not overstock fish or put big fish in small tanks, then by all means the fish couldn't be happier. Knowledge is the key, it's like any other pet, you need to know how to look after them.

  • @TheAtheistAussie

Actually a decent marine keeper is doing them a favour by putting them in an aquarium. Aquarium food is much better than the food they get in real life, not only that there's much more predators in real life. Thirdly humans do more damage to the ocean than to the aquarium at home. And to put the cherry on the cake, Aussies are very cautious about their reefs, we wouldn't take any out of the ocean if it was doing any damage to the reefs. My fish couldn’t be happier.
