A machine I lusted over as a kid ( I was into hi-fi way ahead of my friends) - still dig vintage gear and have an extension silver era (all metal) Pioneer system. Still haven't got a Tri Tracer...perhaps one day.
At one point I had both the 1000 and the 1000 II. Also had a 600. My last and current is a Dragon. You want the capstan to be turning before the pinch roller engages. That way the speed is correct as soon as you start the tape.
@@1JGP1 The Dragon has the automatic azimuth alignment for playback and can get optimum playback frequency response from tapes made on any machine. It also adds Dolby C and metal tape capability as well as auto reverse. Basically it is more featured, but the 1000 and 1000 II still hold their own against the Dragon.
Oh boy, in Canada these are starting to push between $1,500 and 2,000!! We used audio market is changing quite quickly, anyone who's getting into a cassette player would die to have a Nakamichi like yours!
It's certainly getting harder! I had this one serviced by a local tech that is quiet well know with decks. Certainly, there are some substitute parts available, but - having a donor (as odd as that sounds) is probably a good investment if you have a "keeper".

I used to be the importer of Cerwin Vega to Norway!
Thats awesome! Get any free stuff, lol ;)
Very hard to find here in Australia
I see some nice gear from time to time in Australia...

Is the Dragon far superior to the 1000/1000II?

@@douglashoff95, ah...Yes, I recall the 1000 Tri-Tracer was not automatic. I have to say, I kinda regret selling my 1000...Such a good sounding deck.
What do these go for now ? I might put mine up for sale in Australia 🇦🇺
