I got a pair of KLH 5's about 1973. I was working at an audio repair shop part time while in college, and since we were an authorized KLH repair shop, I got them at 50% off MSRP. I ran them on a Pioneer SX-838 receiver (also bought at 50% off MSRP). Got a good deal on a Thorens TD-160 turntable from a local retailer.
I went all SANSUI still have the system ! It's a AU317 and TU217 with a set of SP-X8900 speakers , the one's with the 17 inch woofers!! Still sound as good as when i bought them!
Nice review. I always replace caps in-situ. I have restored enough speakers now that hook and looping in new films in is how I do it. I run a pair of advents 5002 with a sansui 4000. Nice sound. My favorite speakers of all time are NS-690's. I have never enjoyed a speaker more. Wish you would download a track from youtube music catalog and play them for us. Greetings from CowTowN. 🐄🏘
I just stumbled upon your video, I saw the Model 5's and the Sansui receiver... I own both the Sansui 2000 and 4000 and have the 4000 paired with a pair of Zu Dirty Weekend 6 with their Supreme upgrade... They replaced my Dave Kelly KLH Model 5's... I tried the Sansui on the 5's, it sounded very good, but the Zu's were an entirely different level in their presentation when paired with either of the Sansui units. The 4000 is in my rack and it is not going anywhere. Modern gear, at least the gear I have owned, cannot hold a candle to these vintage Sansui units.
Just found this video as well. I picked up a pair of these model 5's for $20 yesterday and going to redo them soon. Last weekend picked up a Sansui 9090 for $200 with everything functional so far I thought I'd pair them with. Overall a good couple pickups amd curious to see how they sound.
@@StonerCreek74 I can’t get over the Sansui sound, I hope your find is as good or better than both of mine. Good price too, I had no problem paying $200 ea for mine. Money well spent! Both of mine are near perfect.
@@1JGP1I swear Sansui and Zu got together in an alternate universe... That is how I discovered the Sansui Zu match, others saying the same thing, and it is very true.

That's not a bad idea. I'll have to look into "free tracks" from youtube. I've been hit in past with copyright "stuff" - so, I've kept away from it.
