Wore it out last night and was so embarrassed when it started to just CRUMBLE, I went from looking fancy to very sad lol. Looked down at my 5 year old heels and they were also peeling. Woke up this morning to educate myself on what it is that I bought and why it was being promoted as leather. Now I need to decide whether I will never buy this type again and what to look out for.

hey i wanted to mention something more about bonded Leather is i found out that some journals, phone books ,and some other office supplies that have bonded leather exteriors have had reactions that appear to be chemical with some of my furniture that i believe has a conversion varnish finish applied on it i say believed because i bought the furniture at a store that really didn’t tell me what the actual finish is yet i have over 20 years as a Professional Woodworker who has worked with many different finishing products that were generally picked by Architects who designed the products we built for their projects one of the more common finish was a wood stain then a protection coat of Conversion Varnish on top of the stain over my career we used hundreds of gallons of Conversion Varnish sprayed onto the items we manufactured in the case of my bonded leather products i’ve had many items get stuck onto the furniture after sitting for longer periods inthe same spot and when “peeled “ off the surfaces a great deal of the bonded leather stayed stuck to the furniture surface that appears to be a permanent bond one such item happens to be a eyeglass case i left in a desk drawer for several months with a extra pair of prescription eyeglasses i keep for a back up pair at work

If the price of leather good is too low, then it’s probably a sign that you have a bonded leather product. Such products peel fast, that’s a waste of money. Unfortunately full grain or top grain leathers have never been cheap. However the worst thing is that very few producers label their products as bonded leather products. That’s a scam in my opinion. Governments should do something with it.

    • @TomatoTomato911
      @TomatoTomato911 2 года назад +1

bonded leather are more fragile than pu leather. even if they are made of real leather, they wont feel the same as real leather since bonded leather are mixed with all sorts of leather scraps, the surface probably retreated to give a real leather feel.
pu leather nowadays is capable of providing similar feel, and there are different levels of pu level at different price point.
most bike and car leather seats are made of pu, they are very durable while pu leathers on belts and wallets are less durable due to lower cost.
imo if you want durability you lose some leather feel as they need to be thicker. if you want refined feel you lose durability.

The recliner in my RV the bonded leather started flaking and peeling off after 3 years of use. I have not been able to find anyone who knows of a way to make it last longer or if there is even a way to make it last longer.
    Thanks for your video.

I was under the impression that the leather was the foamy nasty stuff beneath a layer of plastic. Otherwise known as PU leather. They typically have a open mesh backing which everything is adhered to.

Nice!! Thanks for this useful info about types of leathers. Would like to see more like this!
Waiting for Solovairs to get leather quality examination by you! :)
Btw did you buy Solovair in Hi-Shine? I think thats most common boot out there because its cheaper than what they call "Greasy leather" even tho after your video i think greasy is better in quality. Would like to hear from you about whats the difference there. I think they say on their website "greasy leather" is full grain or top grain and "Hi-shine" is corrected top grain.
Well if you read all those long comment good luck and have a nice day!!

Maybe you could do a review on the Saphir leather care products (the Renovateur for example). It's a little bit pricey but many people swear by it.

maybe it's better it goes to waste instead of being in furniture that lasts a year or two and then you need to throw out the chair/ couch

So can we say all leathers that peel are bonded/artificial leather? If so, then it could be the best indicator to tell whether it is a genuine or fake leather.

Did i hear you say that there is indeed a 'high quality' bonded leather? If so then that 'better bonded' wouldn't flake off on say a chair?
You mentioned polyurethane - i have had a wallet for 10 years - it's made of PU leather that shows little sign of wear, yet i'm not finding furniture covered in PU.
Any thoughts? Thanks and thanks for the informative video!

Hey love the video, just wanted to say that I don't think people would mind you making these videos into 10 minute ones. I know I've heard that 10 mins are better for monetization/algorithm magics
You're obviously passionate, and you seem to be building a really good community, I don't think people would mind if it meant you were breaking even, making money etc. Especially if it helps fund more destruction :D
I get not wanting to stretch out simple videos way too much though, just wanted to let you know
