    Finally a very good explanation! I was already looking for something like this since months now! It was very difficult to get any information about the transmission system in detail. What I've learned is first, that WiFi isn't a good choice for flying drones. I experienced that with my Parrot Bebop1. Not I got the P4 with its Lightbridge and a Mavic Pro 1 with Ocusync. And Ocusync - from my point of view - works A LOT better than Lightbridge. No freezes, just more stable

    Amazing! Occusync is amazing and I think occusync is better than lightbridge in range and quality occusync 2.0 has such a high bandwidth I bet any benefits will be “ported” over to occusync.
    Can you explain the “enhanced” WiFi based system in the Mavic Air as well like this? I been amazed at how good the WiFi is on that little thing (in FCC mode). I’m getting over 2 miles on WiFi.

    WOW, Thanks for the comprehensive and technical explanation. I also really appreciate the accessories compatibility chart.
    Sadly I lost my original Mavic PRO, by flying around a Ferry in high winds. The RTH kicked in, but the Mavic PRO, struggled returning against the strong head winds. It entered auto land once the battery got to about 10% and descended into Port Phillip Bay near Melbourne, about 200m off the shore. 😭
    DJI care refresh said don't fly once you have strong wind warnings on the DJI GO4 APP.
    So I have waited about 7 months to find out weather my batteries, controler, White DJI Goggles, etc will work with the Mavic 2 Zoom and Pro?
    Your video is much appreciated, answering some of my questions and explaining how they are limited to 2.4Ghz.

    • @paultull7406
      @paultull7406 6 лет назад

      @@bobbrown8661 Yes, I tried switching into Sports mode, once I realised I was in real trouble. I was using my Sony Android Mobile phone and experiencing bad Lag on the DJI GO4 APP.
      The RTH kicked in at 30% battery displayed on the mobile phone. The Mavic climbed to 70m from memory and probably into stronger gusty head winds than I was experiencing on the beach. Unfortunately I didn't confirm that % on the controller screen, which with Hindsight was probably was more accurate than the mobile display? Suddenly the battery level dropped to 13% and I realised my Mavic Pro was in real danger. The Mavic didn't seem to change into Sports mode and once it dropped below 10% the Auto Land worked perfectly, into the Bay.

    • @MadRC
      @MadRC  5 лет назад

      Sadly no due to the way it works, it will not be able to cope with the FHSS and OFDM. Most Wi-fi repeater actually are just received and access points in one so they actually connect to the network and the resend it. This will not work with Ocusync.

    Hmm...noob question here, but is Ocusync radio transmissions? Or is it some kind of microwave transmission like wifi? And should one be concerned with transmission radiation from the controller, with either the ocusync or the traditional wifi signal with cheaper drones? Does ocusynk mean more radiation because of the longer range of the tecnology or does it work at a similar effect as the wifi variants? Sorry, but I am a control freak when it comes to these things. :-P

    Good explanation - One question.
    From my decades of flying RC and FHSS radios, it was always considered good practice to fire up the RC first so that the TX could hop around and look at how noisy/busy the band was before firing up the aircraft/Rx.
    With Occusync 2.0 is there any advantage in powering up the Remote first or the aircraft first to allow the system to 'look' for interference and settle on the video carrier in the least noisy part of the band?

    • @MadRC
      @MadRC  3 года назад +1

      I would always recommend having the RC on first however from a radio point of view it really does not make a difference , when the craft losses RC signal is jumps to a failsafe mode where it constantly hops between one channel on 2.4 and one on 5.8ghz, its hopping between bans back and forth every second or so until the signal is re-established with the remote. One it does then with in 2-5s it then will look at the band and then jump to a free section of the band.

  • @robrow

    Great explanation, thanks for posting, something else I have always wondered is why there are 2 antennas on my MP controller and what the purpose is of each one?

    • @MadRC

    Thank you! A very technical approach, I appreciated it. I am guessing that you have a good knowledge of telecommunication modulation and hopping methods. Can I ask you to make a video, about how drone jammers work on DJI products? Like, hijacking home location and force a drone to land somewhere else.

    • @MadRC
      @MadRC  5 лет назад +1

      This is a very interesting subject. The jammers for the most part do nothing special apart from disrupting the aircrafts signal from and RC and the GPS, this means when the signal is lost the craft has to resort to landing on the spot as it’s basically in Atti.
      While you will see some videos showing them controlling it down to ground this is mostly nonsense, they are simply overloading the receivers in the control and GPS and then relying on the crafts default behaviour in that scenario to land on the spot. However if a user has set it to hover then it will behave differently.
      There is a huge amount of smoke and mirrors around this side of things and while hacking the control like is possible very few have that ability in reality outside of government.

    • @HSharpknifeedge
      @HSharpknifeedge 5 лет назад

      There are some custom made jammers in the Middle East region, and I would be glad to send you a couple of photos of these systems. You mind if I have your email? or I can share mine with you and would be thankful to have a replay email from you, then I can send you back the photos. Not sure if you are interested to know or discuss the issues.

    Hi, do you have info on the spectrum for ocusync etc, wifi connection eg 802.11 eg Mavic Air/spark conforms to that standard, so it uses standard wifi channels. I notice ocusync uses the same frequency 2.4/5ghz. I have heard people saying it kills your home wifi when you fire it up. Is it built on 802.11 at all? 2.4 is a very busy frequency.

    • @MadRC
      @MadRC  5 лет назад

      It’s using the same licence free band of frequency’s as Wi-fi however it’s not using the Wi-fi protocol. It’s an OFDM video signal and as such its much stronger than the Wi-fi and will generally kill any Wi-fi around it in close quarters.

      obviously the FPGA can be programmed to do what ever they want to a point but only early Lightbrige systems used it, later revisions used custom hardware so that all went out the window, there are versions of the Phantom 3 and Inspire 1 that have FPGA and custom hardware,they also don't have the necessary overhead to be able to decode 1080P like the later ones and like the original Ocusync it was not dual band.

    Still don’t understand why ocusync wasn’t used in inspire 2. The video feed from the original mavic was so much better than the feed from the inspire 2

      smoak888 DJI product teams tent to be separate from each other, ocusync was new and not fully proven so I suspect the I2 team went with what they know and did not want to risk the newer unknown technology on the I2 for pro users. While Mavic Pro did come first they were likely developed in parallel in the background totally separate.
