0:30 Guys, when I was filming, only @TheFinalCutBro had his video public. Meanwhile, @dylanjohndickerson and @Brad_West have dropped their videos if you want the full overview!
Hey thanks for the shout on Motion Tools! Amazing overview brotha. It’s crazy how well you explain the minute details behind the new AI tools. Interesting to see how it seems to only work properly if it’s on a Rec.709 clip.
You bet! Yeah, I guess Apple’s intention with the press release was to say it works with everything. Which it does. Just after the colour space transformation. 😂
As always an excellent explanation of the new features. Which of your plug-ins might help improve what we can achieve with Enhanced Light & Color alone? Ideally, I am looking for a quick and easy solution to color correction without jumping down the rabbit hole.
Thank you very much! If you don’t want to jump down the rabbit hole, then don’t. Just use the feature and tweak it to your liking. To be frank, if you don’t want to jump down the rabbit hole, don’t spend your money on my plugins and try to learn the basics with the tools FCP offers. This will get you much further. More tools will only cause confusion. :)
I am by no means a color grading specialist, but the new AI enhanced color tool seems to work correctly(behaviorally) whether it is placed before or after a log to 709 lut. Doing this with color wheels you would see the drastic error of placing it after a 709 lut but in my small research, this new tool seems to work differently if placed after. I.e. shadow slider only moves shadows…highlight slider, only moves highlights. Is there some sort of apple magic inside of it? Your thoughts?
As far as I can tell, no. The reason it behaves differently is because it cannot cope with unconverted log-footage. And that's exactly what I tried to figure out too. In the video, my findings are that it's only useful if your footage is already converted to rec709.
What are your thoughts on using the new Enhance feature when a clip has a Camera LUT installed via the Info Inspector, rather than as an Effect. Any noticeable difference?
There is no difference since the camera LUT gets processed before any effects in the inspector. But camera LUTs is a topic for a whole video. I’ll do one on that in a week or two. :)
While I understand that sometimes, blurring a mask is a good solution, pulling a cleaner mask in the first place is almost always the better approach. I‘ll make a video on that! But I agree, having that as a slider would be nice tho.
@@iamericlenz exactly and not to forget the six color factor which are huge time savers.. thats where color finale is takes a step forward I really would love to rely on built in color adjustments especially after adding the effects rename feature And BTW your channel is amazing keep ut up man 👍🏼❤️🔥
A colour space is defined by the gamut (the colours available/present) and the gamma (how brightness is handled). The LUT does that by conforming the footage to another colour space like Rec.709 and making sure everything falls into Rec.709 spec. I have published a video that might be helpful: ruclips.net/video/H1dWwYlmGu4/видео.html
Why not first convert with the LUT, then do Enhanced Color, then move it before the LUT and just not reset it? That way it does it correctly and then you move it to make sure no quality is lost.
Good idea in theory, but it doesn't work. Think about the colour space transformation as a translator. Before it, your footage speaks Spanish, after it, it speaks English. If you rephrase and change the wording of the English text, you cannot just plug those words and phrases into the Spanish text. If you have some time, try it and you'll find huuuuge colour shifts. :)
@@iamericlenz yeah I definitely need to play around with it more and try out all those quirks but so far I have used in on one project and it definitely saves some shots in horrible lighting conditions and the results are surprisingly good. Do you think it’s worth it to do it post LUT even though you loose some quality if overall it massively improves the look? I guess doing it manually will always get the best results but on some shots I tbh thought wow I would have never gotten it like this haha
@@videowien If you perform all the actions that require the full signal before the LUT (i.e. pulling back your highlights, adjusting exposure etc.) you're good to go to put it after the LUT. Just keep the limitations in mind. :)
@@videowien @iamericlenz Just to confirm, you two are saying that you should do enhanced color, other corrections (if needed), and then apply your LUT? I had the same question.
With no offense intended. I find your videos to be very warm looking and not quite natural in appearance. Is this deliberate? (I mean the scenes where you are on camera. Thumbnail included.)
Don’t worry, I hear you! I’m struggling a bit with the mixed lighting of my key light and my desk lamp. And ironically, I don’t spend a lot of time on grading my RUclips videos despite being primarily a colour channel. The thing is, I know how to grade, I just suck at lighting. I’ll figure it out over the next videos. It’s a little too heavy for my taste, too.

That guy is the freaking worst! Definitely go watch Dylan Johns and Brad’s instead.

Really insightful, Eric! Great breakdown and clear explanations 🙌
Appreciate it! Thanks! :)
Came for the technicals. Love the technical explanations!
Thank you! :)
wow, great features but your break down and explanation is even better !! Thanks Eric, this is a fab video, very clear explanations !
Glad it was helpful! Thank you! :)

It's a shame that Apple didn't include automatic subtitles.
Agreed! But I have a feeling 11 is coming. They’re probably doing some expectation-management here.
Apple, please hire this guy.
Ahaha :D Please don‘t! I love what I do just how it is. :D
Thanks for this!
My pleasure! :)

How does lut move the footage in different colour space? Isn’t this still the same colour space just graded?
