Good vid but most people don’t understand payload capacity. You will run out of payload before you reach max tow capacity! At 15% tongue weight with a 5000lb camper that’s 750lbs deducted from payload. Then deduct 500lbs in bed and the driver 200lbs +-. That’s 1450lbs with approximately 300lbs left for passengers. That truck with 1750 payload will be just about maxed with an average family and gear. Nice looking rig!
I have seen my fair share of people with flipped jack-knifed trailers who probably felt they were "safe enough" but over capacity. It's been a year since the post but your math still applies lol
This is a video that Ford needs to recommend to everyone with an F150, especially the 21 and 22. You guys spent a lot of time and money making this great video that makes the roads much safer if people learn this. I'm 75 and have towed a lot of trailers cross country with 1/2 ton trucks but never had a system like this. Nice, and much safer. Thx so much
I found out the hard way about the towing capacity of a 2019 F150 Ecoboost... The 13,000 lb capacity is only capable with a weight distribution system and without it, it's rated for 5000 lbs with a 500 lb tongue weight. Look up the towing guides on these vehicles and look closely at around some of the last pages where they have this information.

Thank you for this review. I'd be interested in learning more about your decision to go with a V8 after your 2015 Ecoboost. Were there any other reasons for the switch back to the old-school V8 besides "it sounds better"? I like the idea of Ecoboost's better mileage, but really am drawn to the V8's proven reliability over the long haul.
Would love to see the camera setup. I have that harness sitting here trying to figure out what to do with it!! I bought the 2021 Lariat Powerboost hoping the torque of the hybrid system would help my fuel mileage while towing my enclosed BBQ trailer. NOPE! Im getting 23-28mpg around town, still only about 9-10mpg on the hwy pulling the trailer.
I subscribed. This is some of the best, smartest, and necessary information every single person should know and research BEFORE buying/hauling any trailer. Well done!!!!
I am sorry but you really need the heavy duty payload package it is hard to get for some reason from ford dealers that will put your payload up to about 2880 lbs I can't find one anywhere
Old school guys, love it! I'm about to order a 22; with my 2014 I'd usually leave the door open to watch the ground while backing up that extra inch or three to accurately place the ball under the coupler. Using my mirrors, 8 out of 10 times I'd get the ball within half an inch left and right but fore and aft needed to watch the ground for that final position. I guess I'm going to have to get used to the cameras! Dang, technology sure takes the fun outa learning your skills and pride of accomplishment!
Subscribed. I have an ‘08 Titan. Supposed to tow around 9k. Bought a 33’ camper, weighed somewhere around 6k empty, so add your weight of stuff in the camper:). I changed the tires to “E” rated tires which completely made the truck tow better with much less wiggle in the truck itself. FYI. :).
Just got a new 1500 Ram to tow around 6500 lbs loaded rv. Wish I had went 3/4 ton, just to squishy even though the hemi and 3.92 axle ratio are great. Using recurve 3 EQ hitch with enough tension to actually have the trailer riding slightly high on the tongue.

It cycles the engine on & off as needed to charge the batteries.
Thanks so much for doing these vids guys, I live in Canada and just bought and F150 xlt space white to replace my Silverado rally 1, not only do I get to see the true color in real everyday light but also the hitch and shock system you have installed. Never had a Ford truck before but im looking forward to my factory order, might be a few more months before I get mine.
Newbie F150 limited ecoboost here. Thanks for the Golden nuggets. I plan on renting RVs as I am new to this. Getting the F150 ready for this with your information is appreciated. Takeaway; lifting bags and distribution system.
I really messed up . I bought a 27ft Canyon Cat by Palomino with a super slide and my f150(5.4) is taxed! I will need to upgrade on truck size for sure!
I subscribe, just bought the same 2021 lariat in space white with many same features as Sams. had the same question about the color but it grew on me,love it now. your program is great for me to watch, very informative thanks guys
I subscribed 3 months ago when I watched the video of the wolf great videos thank you I love my 2020 F150 XLT sport with the max tow package. 302 engine 373 rear end gears for towing. Thank you from Minnesota
Things may have changed in the last few years with package contents, but when I looked up the ratings in my '19 owners manual, it kept saying like 14,000 lbs for the 5.0l 4x4 with towing options. But you had to look at the last page small print to see that was only with the Heavy Duty Suspension option as well. Else it was only 9000 lbs. 5000lbs with no options. HDS included bigger springs front and rear, shocks and roll bar. This setup was near impossible to find at dealers, you had to know you needed it and special order it. My '97 came with this, along with a larger radiator, engine oil and tranny coolers and 120a alternator.
We used to have a 32ft trailer the weighed over 10k when loaded, my dad pulled it with his bone stock 2016 5.0, it pulled it extremely well. The only issue was the weight distribution hitch from eaz lift, the lift bars would fall off every time you turned, one time they smashed the asphalt when turning, he basically needed to completely unhook and do the whole thing over. He ended up just never using them. Before that he pulled a 34ft trailer that weighed 12k with a bone stock 2011 Nissan Armada. My Grandpa pulled a 25 ft power catamaran with 250 gallons of gasoline and 2 225 hp Yamaha motors. Weighing probably double the towing capacity with his bone stock 2005 Ram 1500. They would also pull multiple boats simultaneously with a 1992 F150 4.9 I6 and a 1997 Ram 1500 5.7 Magnum. They’d spend days on the interstate, from Michigan to Alabama, to Florida, back north and so on. I think it was fine because it wasn’t for commercial use, as far as I’m concerned DOT does not care unless you are obviously incredibly overloaded. I could be wrong but they don’t make you stop at scales and such either. If you’re towing a 30ft fifth wheel with a Ford Ranger they’ll get you.
I tow a boat and the auto break is great at the boat launch. If you watch boat launch fails there are many vehicles that end up in the water. There’s no more sticker on a 21 , you have to hook up the sensor and it was pretty easy to calibrate it
Man what a great video guys! Super detailed and high quality. I’ve been looking for content just like this for my truck build. I have a ‘16 F150 with the 3.5 and max tow and I’ll be pulling a camper very similar to yours. Keep up the good work!
My 2016 F150 had the trailer memory with mileage information and It would also test the trailer lights. It looks like they built on that even more on the 2021 model year.
Newly subscribed, very appreciative of the great towing information you provided & the emphasis on tow safety. We're in the market for a new truck & RV in the next year or two & the new F150 is ticking a lot of boxes as far as all the helpful tech that will make towing safer & easier for us
Good video Guys. I ordered a 2021 F150 on Feb., 11, 2021, still waiting for it to come in . The latest info I can find on the site the dealer gave me to track it, says delivery date, May, 18, 2021. My dealer is not to optimistic on that date. This will be my third F150 XLT 5.0 two wheel drive, had a 2011, now have a 2015. My 2015 has 87,000 miles, only trading because did not want to hit 100k for resale value. This truck I ordered the Max Tow packages also, 20 inch tires, 36 gal fuel, . I tow a small bass boat on a regular basis, but may be getting a Travel Trailer in the near future, that is why I opted for Max Tow glad to finally see a video with a truck that actually had the same options. Most dealers show you the “tow package” on the window sticker, and tell you you can tow anything out there!? Keep up the videos guys, can’t wait until mine gets here, Have a trip to Wyoming planned in mid June.
Hey Andrew! Thanks for watching! There isn't a camera in the bag but one can be purchased and hooked up to the system. I haven't quite figured out all the details for this on the 21 yet but I know it is possible. Stay tuned for a video on the subject.
You got me loving the space white so much that I ordered a new f150 in the space white yesterday. Torn between the max tow and trailer tow package tho.
Subscribed! I actually live in Lenoir City and have been on the fence for pulling the trigger on these shocks for my 2020 RAM 1500. My wife and I are also really considering a travel trailer and these stocks seem to be the answer to some concerns I had. Thank you for the detailed review and video of them under load and doing what they are meant to do. That was the deciding factor for me. Thanks guys! Eli A.
Believe me, just buy a F250 diesel. I did everything possible to make my 2015 F 150 Ecoboost 4x4 (rated for 11,200 pounds) tow my 7,800 pound travel trailer better. I had Max towing package, air bags, Bilstein shocks ,10,000 pound equalizer hitch, and E rated tires. No lift was on the truck, just stock. It pulled the trailer 30,000 miles, but the Ecoboost gas mileage while towing was 7-8 mpg, and would get hot on long inclines. The trailer would get sucked in by every semi truck passing me by mainly because the F150 aluminum body was too light. The weight difference between a F150 2014 steel body and 2015 aluminum body is 700 lbs. I have purchased a 2023 F250 diesel, and it makes my F150 look like a toy truck. I should get 50% better gas mileage with the F250. I have driven two 500 mile trips (without trailer) and I got over 22 mpg. I am sure the trailer will feel way more stable going down the highway. My son has a 2021 F150 4x4 Ecoboost that tows a 5,000 lb NoBo 19.6 and he has no issues. But, as his family grows he will want a bigger trailer and will need a bigger truck!
We’ll that’s interesting cause I’m running a 22 max tow f150 6.5 bed 3.73 5.0 all stock, blue ox no sway, running here in the Rocky Mountains on a 27’ 7200lb dry trailer and it runs just fine. We had a crosswind of about 50mph into a sudden thunderstorm and it was straight as an arrow. I have ZERO complaints with this coming from a 2005 GMC 3/4 ton.
Subscribed! Id like to see that 2021 with a 9klbs dry weight camper behind it. Looks like good content and all the fords made me say ok, im subscribing! The camper is a bonus. I tow a 2020 jayco jayflight slx with an 08 superduty. I have towed the same camper with an 01 suburban and it actually did well until a trip to the alleghany mountains! It made the trip but it was cryin going up the mountains. Stayed above 50 at all times but i had that white knuckle action goin on that trip! Not because of sway or suspension because its bagged..but the power and torque wasnt there. The twin turbo 6.4l is another monster and so far i love it. Upgraded to rancho 8 way adjustable on all 4 corners. Ive only had them on 1 setting. The next trip will be changed twice...one setting on the way and a different setting on the return ride. Keep up the good content fellas. Safe towing
Show me the camera want to see how that works I just got 21 f150 so I’m still learning everything about it I got the lariat with the 502 high package and love your videos
I subscribed. Please let your viewers know that the trailer tongue weight directly contributes to vehicle payload totals. Thank you and great information in your video .
Great video! One recommendation I'd have is to cross your chains when towing. other than that, thanks for putting out such great video. I'll be looking at those Falcons for my 2019 for sure!
Thanks for watching Felipe. My chains can't be crossed. They attach in the center and come from a single point. The only way you can cross your chains is when they are attached that two different points. Crossing mine would only cross one link right where they are attached.
great video.....i just bought a new F150 Lariat 2021 while i wait patiently for my Bronco order.....this new F150 has the 3.5 eco boost. i have always had the 5.0L. i believe the 3.5 has some pretty good towing capability as well.
Suggest all potential future F150 buyers who tow or haul heavy....please research an option you must order and not available above XLT mid on 2019 and later U.S. made trucks.. the Heavy Duty Payload Package or HDPP for short. Not even TFL or pickup trucks plus understands this option package and i love those guys like you two. Having Max Tow does not mean HDPP!! Before you spend such a huge amount of your life savings do your ford truck build research and ping those of us who had or have one in F150 forums and we will provide our opinions Totally different animal than max tow and ordering it limits your vehicle configuration. A prosperous and safe New Year to All! Rich
I think you have to add it on the XL, and perhaps the XLT packages. The higher end trims HAVE the HD package already on the truck. That includes the increased size rear end, etc. I know what you mean, I've "built" numerous F-150 configurations over the last 2 months and was initially confused about it. However, I contacted my dealer and they indicated that it isn't an option on the higher models because they already have it. If someone knows anything different please feel free to correct me! I haven't ordered yet.
@@daveharness70 if i understand you right sir the dealers told you higher trim level fords alreay have elements of the HDPP. They are misinformed. Frame thickness, axle casting thickness, etc are very specific items which require Ford in build that truck in batches. Strongly suggest you conduct research in ford f150 forums. They will help clarify the differences between max tow and HDPP. its real simple..go to a patient dealer and ask them to open the driver door and show you the yellow payload sticker. You will see first hand what i mean.
@@slmjake right on....so why is it not an option on those trim levels? Why is it required on the XL to get max tow? Ill ask again,....just odd that they would "hide" that option.
@@daveharness70 sir thats a great question. Maybe you could get Andrey from TFL to ask the Ford lead F150 engineer that very question? Last year during an interview with that gentleman the engineer offered TFL an opportunity to assess an F150 with the heavy duty payload package. I think TFL would get lots of hits from that video.
@@slmjake Yes, that would be nice to see. I did watch the original video. Haven't seen the follow up. But after much research it does seem to be true that the HDPP is only available in select XL and XLT configurations. This is apparently targeted to fleet trucks only, as the vast majority of F-150 owners will not spec a truck like this unless they are fleet or specifically purchasing for max payload and towing. Thank you for your discourse...let's hope they offer that package for the higher trims in the near future!
Love the color on the f-150 😎it's a cool truck 👍 i enjoy watching your videos 👍 keep up the good work guys 😃 have a great weekend ☀️🌳hi from Denmark 🇩🇰
I'm getting a rv in about a week. 2019 f150 5.0l supercrew with a payload of 2000lbs. Max tow of 11600lbs. Max tongue weight of 1,160lbs. Max gcvw of 14,400lbs. I've installed beefier shocks, road master active suspension, and hellwig anti sway bars front and rear. Having ford dealer install brake controller next week. The rv weighs 6500lbs w/payload of about 1700lbs. I'll have the rv dealer set up the weigh safe weight distribution/sway hitch when I pick up the rv.
My 2021 F150 Lariat has the 3.5 , 400 horses and a bucket load of torque ..500 ft/lbs . towing my 23 ft camper is a breeze , no issues at all , i carry a generator ans a tool box plus fuel for the gen and extra water , last year i had an f150 Lariat with the 2.7 ...it handled the job ok but this new 3.5 in my 2021 hauls like the camper isnt even there !
They're not terrible with a 21-ft trailer. I kind of have a feel for how long I am and can manage changing lanes pretty easily. For really long trips the towing mirrors would be nice though. I just can't get down with how they look or I would probably have a set. If I do any long trips I may find a clip-on option that works.
ive got the 2015 f150 3.5 ecoboost....tows hella badass....i didnt get the massive trailer, i got a single axle springdale rugged terrain, its almost a perfect combo!
Lol. Answered my question. "The Ecoboost is probably a better engine for towing." I'm trying to decide between motors. I have a 16 Ecoboost Expedition and a 5.0 Coyote Mustang. Love the torque of the EB, love the sound of the Coyote.
Great video indeed. Can’t argue with anything you said. However, I tow at high elevation, so I had to go with the Ecoboost. That excellent Coyote engine runs out of air at 8000 ft above sea level. Just subscribed.
I have subscribed back in the days already!! 🥳🍷⚡😂😂 Channel is great for the F150. Tuned in from France Occitanie where we love pick ups and Ford, as it is by the seaside, mountains, hills, garrigue (local baja+ the rocks😂) people enjoy their truck to work, load, haul, tow, take family and dogs out! As you know miss size trucks. Although roads are wide enough in the south of France to enjoy a full size like the F150. Except parking downtown 🙄😃
I can agree there. My truck was taken down Michigan dirt roads every day of its life. All them potholes are eating the shocks up pretty quick. I want the falcons on my 15 but I don’t want to pay for them. I’m on a BDS 2.5” level and with nothing in the back I’ll be squatting like you read about. I’ll probably end up with the 5100 bilsteins and some airbags. It will still be cheaper. Will it ride as nice, probably not. I’ll do it someday but not now.
I got the same, 2021 F150 Super crew max trailer tow package 5.0L with a Magna force before axle side exit exhaust. So total towing is 13,000 lbs and i have tested with a trailer weighing in at 11,000lbs with bed full and four people without any issues at all. Was a little pain to set up the pro trailer and the mounting of the trailer sway sensor.
Thanks for checking us out Scotty. Here is a link to all the mods on Sam’s truck. From that video you can link to individual mod videos. We have entire video on just the wheels and tires. ruclips.net/video/gOgU5Js2DG0/видео.html

The payload package is on the XL’s only.

Thanks for posting this guys. I’ve been waiting a while for a video on this falcons towing. Much appreciated. An other Canadian viewer/subscriber.
Thanks Ruben!
There’s no more sticker on a 21 , you have to hook up the sensor and it was pretty easy to calibrate it
You're right Len. It is a great safety feature to have. I just haven't gotten used to it yet. Thanks for watching!
Man what a great video guys! Super detailed and high quality. I’ve been looking for content just like this for my truck build. I have a ‘16 F150 with the 3.5 and max tow and I’ll be pulling a camper very similar to yours. Keep up the good work!
Don’t forget to comment RAS to be entered to win. Glad you found us Brian!
Solid video Gents. I love the color on that F-150!
Thanks Smitty!
My 2016 F150 had the trailer memory with mileage information and It would also test the trailer lights. It looks like they built on that even more on the 2021 model year.
Newly subscribed, very appreciative of the great towing information you provided & the emphasis on tow safety. We're in the market for a new truck & RV in the next year or two & the new F150 is ticking a lot of boxes as far as all the helpful tech that will make towing safer & easier for us
Thanks Jim!
Subscribed! We are currently waiting on our F150 and Airstream trailer. Can't wait!
Thanks Eva! That sounds like a pretty nice combination!
Didn’t realize there was a camera in that bag I threw on the shelf. Sounds like it’s worth setting up then!
Hey Andrew! Thanks for watching! There isn't a camera in the bag but one can be purchased and hooked up to the system. I haven't quite figured out all the details for this on the 21 yet but I know it is possible. Stay tuned for a video on the subject.
@@BackroadDriver ah gotcha. Can’t wait to see it! Really impressed with how well produced these videos are so soon after starting the channel.
You got me loving the space white so much that I ordered a new f150 in the space white yesterday. Torn between the max tow and trailer tow package tho.
Max tow comes with tranny cooler
Eli A.
Glad we could help out and thanks for subbing!
I just ordered the shocks! Thanks again for the video with real world towing review
I’ve been here for a minute love the F150 videos!! Waiting to pick up an new 2021 Raptor!
Thanks Alex!
@@robmd3851 my trailer is 7 ft longer making it more of a sail than yours.
Those shocks are sick
I’d like to see the camera install🙋🏼♂️
Safe towing
Thanks Joseph! Glad to have you along for the ride!
I subscribed out here in Indiana!!! I have a 2023 f150 with the 3.5 eco and thinking of buying a camper, youve encouraged me!.
Show me the camera want to see how that works I just got 21 f150 so I’m still learning everything about it I got the lariat with the 502 high package and love your videos
We're working on figuring out the camera ourselves. Stay tuned for a video. Thanks for watching Jose!
Wow your so good at explaining you should’ve been sponsored right there by ford and falcon lol
I subscribed. Please let your viewers know that the trailer tongue weight directly contributes to vehicle payload totals. Thank you and great information in your video .
Thanks for subbing John and we will be doing a few follow up towing videos. Welcome to the family!
I just got a 21 F150 Lariat 4x4 5.0 with the 502A package. Loving the channel and just subscribed 🤙🏼
Thanks Victor! Congrats on the new truck!
I SUBSCRIBED - Okay... I did it. I’ve been watching ya’ll for a while. Keep up the good work!
Show me the camera! I’m in the market for a F150 hybrid for towing a travel trailer.
Thanks Louie! We’ve been waiting on you!
I subscribed. I traded my 2017 F150 for the new model in February.
Congrats on the new truck and thanks for subbing Joe!
I subscribed.
I also ordered the same truck, but in Iconic Silver. Still waitin.
I subscribed. Been watching from the beginning while waiting for my truck. 302A Lead foot 5.0. Thanks for the info!
Got some Nitto Ridge Grapplers on there too I see!
My 2018 king ranch has those towing settings
I subscribed a few weeks ago. Great videos guys. keep em coming
Appreciate it Lorenzo!
It is stout!
I just had to watch the second most viewed video on the channel again!
Before you spend such a huge amount of your life savings do your ford truck build research and ping those of us who had or have one in F150 forums and we will provide our opinions
Totally different animal than max tow and ordering it limits your vehicle configuration.
You 2 are cracking me up, I love it! Good information and thank you for the content👍
Thanks George!
Love the color on the f-150 😎it's a cool truck 👍 i enjoy watching your videos 👍 keep up the good work guys 😃 have a great weekend ☀️🌳hi from Denmark 🇩🇰
tak skal du have!
@@BackroadDriver cool 👏👌 in danish 👍👍😃😃 have a great day 😀🇩🇰
I'm getting a rv in about a week.
The 3.5 and 5.0 are stout. I can’t speak to the 2.7.
Great looking truck, visibility ok with the standard mirrors?
They're not terrible with a 21-ft trailer. I kind of have a feel for how long I am and can manage changing lanes pretty easily. For really long trips the towing mirrors would be nice though. I just can't get down with how they look or I would probably have a set. If I do any long trips I may find a clip-on option that works.
I Subscribed! That’s a beautiful truck and sounds AMAZING! Just bought a 2023 Powerboost and loving it!
Thanks Frankie!
ive got the 2015 f150 3.5 ecoboost....tows hella badass....i didnt get the massive trailer, i got a single axle springdale rugged terrain, its almost a perfect combo!
Great looking truck! Coming from a Chevy guy ;)
Lol. Answered my question. "The Ecoboost is probably a better engine for towing." I'm trying to decide between motors. I have a 16 Ecoboost Expedition and a 5.0 Coyote Mustang. Love the torque of the EB, love the sound of the Coyote.
I am one of your followers from Saudi Arabia
Thanks for watching us!
Great video indeed. Can’t argue with anything you said. However, I tow at high elevation, so I had to go with the Ecoboost. That excellent Coyote engine runs out of air at 8000 ft above sea level. Just subscribed.
Subscriber! Thanks for all those awesome updates and videos
Thanks Dewayne! We appreciate it!
Your videos are always a pleasure to watch fellas. Wait, cattywomp [spelling]?
That sounds about right. Thanks for watching Rico!
@@BackroadDriver good news fellas, dealer called to tell me my 2021 F150 Lariat (Space White) came in today.
That's some really good advice, I appreciate it brother!
Thanks George!
I have the same Falcons on my 2020 F150 Lariat. Love ‘em! Love your channel as well (yeah, I’ve subscribed!).
Thanks for the sub Daniel! Do you agree it rides great?
On the build plans for my 15 Lariat I have the falcons on the list. I’m not sure when it will happen but I haven’t heard anything bad yet.
@@BackroadDriver Falcons are amazing. Definitely worth the $$
Sub'd... started recognizing the roads you were on, live literally a stones throw from you.
Nice truck and sounds super good too 👍
I have subscribed back in the days already!!
I have '18 F150 due for shocks update. I like the Falcons until I checked out the price. Now it's back to Bilsteins.
They aren't cheap. Thanks for watching George.
Great video guys, that space white is growing on me..😎
Very nice looking truck!
Thanks!
Thanks guys im just getting into this ✌️
So excited to get my 2021! 8 weeks out
I wanna see the trailer harness camera install
I got the same, 2021 F150 Super crew max trailer tow package 5.0L with a Magna force before axle side exit exhaust. So total towing is 13,000 lbs and i have tested with a trailer weighing in at 11,000lbs with bed full and four people without any issues at all. Was a little pain to set up the pro trailer and the mounting of the trailer sway sensor.
What kind of wheels and tires are those WOW they look amazing I'm not gonna copy I'm just a poor ol factory worker that likes to dream thanks
Thanks for checking us out Scotty. Here is a link to all the mods on Sam’s truck. From that video you can link to individual mod videos. We have entire video on just the wheels and tires. ruclips.net/video/gOgU5Js2DG0/видео.html
