1:10 "This is fantastic" - when talking about demon with such a great depth and understanding. You can see that world and his unconscious did let him realise that because he was passionate about what he was doing. You can notice a very great passion of curiosity in his voice when he's pronouncing those words. Passion. Devotion. Curiosity. The core of joy in life that burns out the pain and turns the question od being into a great YES. Yes I love to be here with you. Yes, it's a painful journey but a great one indeed.

Joseph Campbell´s insights were very important to me and they are a key element of the trilogy I´ve written, where I deal with a very particular form of hero called the Solar hero. I always remember these words of Campbell in "The Hero of Thousand Faces": "Obviously, this [heroic] work cannot be wrought by turning back, or away, from what has been accomplished by the modern revolution; for the problem is nothing if not that of rendering the modern world spiritually significant-or rather (phrasing the same principle the other way round) nothing if not that of making it possible for men and women to come to full human maturity through the conditions of contemporary life. Indeed, these conditions themselves are what have rendered the ancient formulae ineffective, misleading, and even pernicious. The community today is the planet, not the bounded nation"... In my books (which can be seen in my yoyube channel) I have finally accomplished this new readaptation of the hero to the conditions of the 21st century, and it would have been impossible without Campbells heroic accomplishments. We all owe a lot to our heros

when you say your books, it's one you yourself wrote? if it's the one I watched videos about on your page, Operative Traditions, I looked at the description on Amazon and could you please explain the influence from Evola? It's a bit concerning, to put it nicely. But to keep from jumping to conclusions I thought I'd ask first, since the former tactic has rarely served me well. Thanks for the response in advance.

@@breandadavis3168 I make use of the works of Joseph Campbell, Julius Evola and many others as important contributions to my books but I don´t restrict my ideas to theirs, and aspire to integrate their frameworks into the problems I define in my work, which is mainly about the challenges that techno-industrial development presents to us. From Evola, I think it´s very useful and coherent his distinctions between tradition and modernity

0:55 The word "demon" comes from a Greek word, but it has nothing to do with the dynamic of life.
It comes from the verb "deo" ("δαίω" in Greek) which means something like "I distribute to each one his/her luck"
I'm Greek btw. But you can also search it.

δαίμων is the term he is referring to.
In Plato's Symposium, the priestess Diotima teaches Socrates that love is not a deity, but rather a "great daemon" (202d). She goes on to explain that "everything daemonic is between divine and mortal" (202d-e), and she describes daemons as "interpreting and transporting human things to the gods and divine things to men; entreaties and sacrifices from below, and ordinances and requitals from above..." “Demon” c.1200, "an evil spirit, malignant supernatural being, an incubus, a devil," from Latin daemon "spirit," from Greek daimōn "deity, divine power; lesser god; guiding spirit, tutelary deity" (sometimes including souls of the dead); "one's genius, lot, or fortune;" from PIE *dai-mon- "divider, provider" (of fortunes or destinies), from root *da- "to divide."
The malignant sense is because the Greek word was used (with daimonion) in Christian Greek translations and the Vulgate for "god of the heathen, heathen idol" and also for "unclean spirit." Jewish authors earlier had employed the Greek word in this sense, using it to render shedim "lords, idols" in the Septuagint, and Matthew viii.31 has daimones, translated as deofol in Old English, feend or deuil in Middle English. Another Old English word for this was hellcniht, literally "hell-knight."
The usual ancient Greek sense, "supernatural agent or intelligence lower than a god, ministering spirit" is attested in English from 1560s and is sometimes written daemon or daimon for purposes of distinction. Meaning "destructive or hideous person" is from 1610s; as "an evil agency personified" (rum, etc.) from 1712.

the deity of our tradition does NOT despise the body or the physical. In "our tradition" the deity created all things good, and the body is so important to the deity that the deity became a human being with a physical body, and according to "our tradition" the body will become eternally glorious and the future is packed with physicality. Just sayin.

I am surprised that more of joseph campbell's work is not available, and because of its brevity, the work that is shown misrepresents his overall work. Campbell's mission was not to change the world, but to change individuals. His work isn't changing anyone as long as its kept locked in some storage room. Don't be the Dragon Campbell speaks of that just likes to guard the things it will never use. Please make his intent to change individuals a reality.
