Here's a video of Gravitar by Atari. This was a game that did not do very well in the arcades. It is very hard game and is not very accesible to the casual player. I LOVE IT. It's a color vector game and it rocks.

I use to love this game. Ya, nobody else played it--it was always available for me to play. The second time through the game switches to anti-gravity, and the third time through the planet is invisible, but the shooting things are visible--awesome.
Nice pick up! Gravitar is totally underrated and sometimes forgotten. Asteroids × Lunar Lander = Gravitar. Thanks for the upload! =D
This is one of my favorite games. I play on MAME all the time, and I had no idea that the fuel pickup button is also a shield against incoming shots! Will try next time! That's a game changer.
This is a great game and it's the only game I played in the arcades. It's also cool because there is no time limit. I became a Gravitar Master. I beat the game. I played through all the levels until it started back at the first level again. It took about 1.5 - 2 hours, on 1 quarter!
If you think these first levels are hard, imagine the last level where there is reverse-gravity (pushing away from the planet) and the planet surface is invisible. Sound impossible? I thought so too but I did it!
Great vid man, love this machine.
One of the best games all time. You can get it at Amazon.com on a CD
for a couple of bucks and its rigged up to play on a PC without any fuss.
I defeated the game when it came out using a million quarters. Now when I play it it is frustrating because you can quickly recover your skill but you cant remember the planets specifics in the dark. Man, you have to know every single crook and cranny when the screen goes blank.
@FromVHS I picked that game up for Game Room on X Box and still can only beat the fist 3 planets, the 2000 and 4000 pt planets! Dude you're nuts for playing through the whole thing!!! well done sir.
Gravitar... my favorite video game of all time, but of course I am the world champion. Nice video describing the game play too :-)
Love this game
Dude the Baby Pac Man is beautiful
Cool game, a new one for me. thanks
"Hey guys, we're in the garage!!"
This and Stargate (Defender 2) were the hardest games.
Gravitar should make a return to the basement.
I remember this game. My all-time favorite. I was a student at the University of technology in Phoenix back in 84,85 and 86. I must’ve spent $500 to get to invisible boundaries, reverse gravity. We should have a Gravatar world championship And will start here at the convention center in Santa Fe, we need 100 machines at least, can you do that?
I was just playing this on my DS in the Retro Atari Compilation. I've always gotten a kick out of these early games that had simulated physics like this, all the way back to lunar lander on the Commodore VIC-20.
+Jools Stoo Lunar Lander was totally awesome. I agree, Gravitar has a lot of the same physics ideas. Loved that game. Miss it.
Check out the "Gravity Ace" video game... it is also a cave flier. I am not affiliated with it
Just wondering. I have a the to glass plate from an gravatar game in almost perfect condition was wondering if you knew what it would be worth
I think vector games are far more better than raster in my opinion. It's more fun and unique with bright vector colors.
Venture also has bad guys on the menu.
Stardew Valley's owl in the intro?
This game is fucking AMAZING SOOOOOOOOOOOO fun, but SOOOOO hard it's nearly impossible for me, I could only beat the first few planets and thagt was on the easiest mode on the atari 2600!!! such a fun game though.
Gravitar isn't actually that hard at all. Well, the later invisible levels are but when you master the 5-button controller system you'll notice that no other controller system in ANY game is so amazingly responsive and rewarding.
Check out my gameplay vids... it's a fantastic game and ridiculously underrated. It's not just mindless button smashing like Asteroids. I love Asteroids but Gravitar has 1000 times more depth.
@Rubycon99 probably another machine, gravitar doesnt have any music :(
I guess when this video came out, you hadn't moved down to the basement yet, huh. :P When did you decide to sell your Gravitar?
Oh, so it's not hard at all until the invisible levels, which is half the game. OK, that makes sense...not. Many people find even the early levels difficult. I'm proud to have beaten the game, but I'd never call it easy.
Gravitar Master
Yeah but it takes half an hour to get into the invisible levels. If you can play a game for half an hour with just one quarter can you call it "hard"? It's all relative. Full loop takes about an hour. Completing the game is very hard though. I've done it myself too.
"Let's put my initials in there," but then he proceeds to put "JON" instead of "J_J"! Hmmm....
But "JON" actually aren't your initials. Oops!
One of our local arcades had Gravitar. It looked cool but I always sucked at it. I only played it a few times. Later they had converted it to Black Widow which IMHO is a much better game although not that much easier.
