The atomos Ninja V+ is the key to unlocking the FX6. Pipe your audio into the Ninja, set your frame delay, and leave it alone. Use AndyCine lunchboxes in conjunction with Samsung SSDs for fast and cheap storage. Ditch that ugly top handle and I would also ditch that monstrosity of a V-Mount adapter and switch to using Core NANO U98 6600mAh batteries. Sure, if you usually roll with V-Mount batteries I get that it's nice to not have to worry about another battery in your kit, but the battery notch they carved out in the FX6 is so huge that you can toss a long-lasting dependable battery in there. These changes will considerably slim down the profile and weight of the camera. I often toss this setup on a gimbal and run around an event like a mad man all day and it simply performs without wearing out my arms.
@@DirectorCyclone It's really simple. The right side of the Ninja has a 3.5mm analog audio input jack that you use to pipe in your sound. In the interface you choose that input to be saved with your video, set a frame delay if need be, and that's it. The video you record from the Atomos will have your sound included in the file.
@@DirectorCyclone There are a slew of aftermarket top handles available for the FX6. I went with the Tilta top handle. The mounting points on the handle provide a lot of flexibility for positioning the FX6's monitor.
Electronic VND, AF, shoulder operation, lens selection, low light are the top five reasons (in descending order) to get and keep this camera for the next five years.
I've had the FX6 for a year and I totally agree the 12800 ISO. I wish a third base if ISO 4000 was added. Another thing that gets to me that I haven't seen anyone talk about is the SD Card slot!! When I have a v-mount on it such a hassle to do a card swap.
I kept telling myself that for years until I learned about visualization. Post a picture of the Sony FX6 in every room and visualize yourself filming with it each morning and night before you wake and sleep. Make you that you add "intention" to this, but most importantly "action". Ask yourself, what is it that's holding you back from getting this camera? Remove all obstacles that stand in your way and don't procrastinate. It worked for me, and I just bought a Sony FX6 3 weeks ago. I know you were just being sarcastic, but thought I would share anyways. By the way, your work is dope!
Great commentary as usual. As you said, the lack of a 3.5mm audio jack is the one thing that has stopped me from looking at the FX6 as a choice. If I can't get scratch audio when running and gunning, it makes post production a lot more difficult. Especially for low budget filmmakers like myself. Thanks for the drop. Always fascinating.
@@eirikskarstein9964 I read his comment wrong (half wrong) you are right there IS a built in mic, just wish you could have proper audio without the handle
So far the FX6 is great but one flaw I cannot get over is the fact that the option to fast forward / rewind or select a certain time of the playback is so bad. Which is interrupting the workflow a lot whenever on a project and a client asks for a playback, you cannot simply scroll through specific time of the clip it seems like.
Honestly, with my FX3 I map a quick button in Cine EI so every time I press it, iso alternated from 800 to 12800. Literally one tap of a button. And if my other hand is already on the nd filter it makes getting that slight change in exposure that much easier. Tap + rotate. It takes me all of 1.5 seconds. I can’t imagine the fx6 doesn’t have that capability too
We just shot day one of a week long production for a corporate doc with Sony FS7. 🙄 So yeah, it’s still worth getting. I’m a member of the ROI camera society. That said the C400 looking like my next system.
@@KofiYeboah I only went Sony because canon is always canoning, if that makes sense; but the C400 checks all the corporate/doc cam operator boxes plus the 24-105 (2.8) would be on the cam 90%+ of all my shoots.
I just got my fx3 and I’ll be keeping it as my main video body until Sony gives us a new camera that has the cooling fan, frame rate options, and dynamic range of the fx3 or greater, with global shutter. That’s what it would take for me to sell the fx3 and switch
@KofiYeboah I mean don't get me wrong I'm aware if the specs. But I'm just thinking smaller rig with more features would be the ideal thing. But I also know a lot of videographers who prefer something much bigger, like a FX6 or a FX9

Sitting on $8k of Sony E-mount lens for years now -with $10k ready for the next generation of Sony camera(s). Sorry, but I missed the part about -No 8k, 60fps.😑👨🏽🦲
Nowadays with all of those 6k and 8k cameras fx6 as 4k only camera looks very outdated. The new canon c400 is better in everything at a similar price. In my opinion its over for the fx6 if they dont lower the price by quite a bit
I just don’t think people are jumping ship like that (yet) least, not that fast .like the c400 hasn’t been circulating yet, and even say 3 months by the time you’re ready to switch, even a generous 4-6, there’s another camera by Sony saving you purging gear on market place
Kofi coming in clutch with these long term reviews and retrospectives. Keep it up brother.

How does it work? In regards of recording audio via the ninja v+ ? I do not like that handle.

Yes a triple native iso cam would be phenomenal. Hopefully with the new c400 drop, Sony’s next cam will allow for something like that
