  • Porth Beach in Newquay is now one of the quieter beaches of the region (since they stopped people parking on the beach).
There is parking at the holiday park opposite for £10 all day.
The beach itself has a family vibe, lots of golden sand and a river for the kids to play in and for the more adventurous there are so many caves and pools to explore - just make sure to check the tide times and adjust for wind direction and surges.
Head down the beach and on the right you will see a cut through the cliffs, there’s a bridge over it but you want to head under the bridge. Here you’ll find some amazing deep pools to rock pool fish and even dip. Keep going and you’ll come out to a hidden beach and cove, stick to the cliff side and you’ll quickly find the 1st huge cave, keep going 100m and you’ll fine another with two deep pools for swimming. At calm high tides you can paddleboard through these too.

This looks great. A flashlight would definitely help in the caves.

Are mermaid pools the same as what we call tidepools here in the US? Or are they different somehow?

Same, the recent trend of “wild swimming” (otherwise known as…swimming 😂) has meant a few pretty names have popped up for such pools. Thanks for stopping by.
