Baltimore bridge collapse: Who will pay for the destroyed bridge, lost lives and harmed businesses?

  • The collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Maryland is a multi-layered tragedy: For the families and friends of those killed or presumed dead, it's a profound and personal loss. For businesses that rely on the Port of Baltimore, it's an economic nightmare.
And for the federal courts, it will soon become a balance of dollars and facts, with a network of insurance companies expected to foot at least some of the bill.
The disaster happened early Tuesday when a cargo ship lost power and rammed into Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge. Eight people were on the highway bridge when it collapsed. Two were rescued. The bodies of two more were recovered, and four remain missing and are presumed dead.

It will take lawyers and courts years to figure out the Baltimore disaster.. In the meantime here is what may happen and we taxpayers will take the hit. Please read below.
Here is a Joe Biden solution. Election year politics. Joe selects what disasters to key on. Not much help or Presidential publicity on Palestine, Ohio ( toxic train wreck) or the "wide open border".
      ___________________________________________________________________________
President Joe Biden Says Feds (American Taxpayers) Should Pay For Baltimore Bridge Collapse Rebuild. Read more to see how this will affect your pocketbook.
Of course, Joe Biden says the Feds should pay to rebuild the bridge. It was one of those "black swan" events that comes out of nowhere. What Joe really meant to say was: Of course all American taxpayers should pay for a new bridge. This is going to be a picture book example of how compassionate Joe handles difficult situations when America is in need.
You see, Joe and the Federal Government have no money. No rainy day fund. Nothing. Zilch.
Joe Biden could have said, "I am going to require Americans to pay a “special one time tax” for this new bridge. It is the least we can do as Americans to help Baltimore through this terrible crisis". Will it happen? Not in your life. This is an election year!
So what is Joe Biden going to do? With Congressional help, he is going to add it to the National deficit which stands at $34.4 trillion dollars. See how easy that was.
Let's project that the bridge will cost $500,000,000 dollars and the government pays 4% interest a year for this loan. It will cost the American taxpayers $20,000,000 in interest payments every year. What a neat way to borrow money and never have to pay it back! That is why the National Debt is $34.4 trillion dollars. The loan amount is never paid down, only the interest payment on the loan is paid every year. The bridge loan amount is just added to the National Debt.
So, American taxpayers (you) will be paying the interest payment on this loan every year for the rest of your life, your children will be paying the interest payment on this loan every year for all of their life, etc, etc, etc.
After 30 years, American taxpayers will have paid $600,000,000 dollars in interest payments and still owe the original $500,000,000 dollars.
So what about that $34.4 trillion National Debt? Well it keeps growing larger and it is projected that by 2026, American taxpayers will be paying one trillion dollars ($1,000,000,000,000) dollars in interest payments every year. This figure will also continue to grow every year.
So whether Joe uses a “one time special tax” or throws the loan amount in the pot with the rest of the National Debt; you will end up paying for the bridge. I hope everyone gets to enjoy traveling on the new Baltimore Bridge, when it is completed, at some time in their life.

My dad was a Farmer's Insurance Group agent for 40 years and he had other agencies as well including Traveler's Insurance Group. I am now 52 years old and I have seen so many claims get denied by companies like AON, Progressive and Lloyd's of London more frequently now. I have a business in the south Pacific and we got typhoon insurance that we paid the premium monthly. A typhoon came and damaged much of our business but AON denied the claim and said they don't cover typhoons!! I flipped out and filed a complaint with the department of insurance. Our policy clearly defined the coverage and we were rightfully insured. The complaint is still being processed almost 8 years later. Not to mention a childhood friend of mine died of a heart attack and had a life policy of $500,000 and the company (Mutual of Omaha) denied the claim after an autopsy revealed he had black lung from smoking. He stated he was a non smoker a decade earlier on his application. The insurance industry is a scam now. I worked for a small tanker ship company that had a contingency account primarily for covering perils so that a claim made on insurance wouldn't put them out of business with a higher premium. They used the contingency money in place of the actual insurance company ( Lloyd's of London) to cover perils that happen often in the shipping industry.

The bridge is insured, as is the shipping company, with both policies underwritten by Lloyd's of London, which reported a pre-tax profit of nearly $13 billion last year. There should be no necessity for the US Government to contribute any funds. However, it seems they are inclined to do so, likely through the passage of a bill, which opens the door for additional unrelated provisions.

I hope everyone gets to enjoy traveling on the new Baltimore Bridge, when it is completed.

Unfortunately lives were lost but this is likely one of the best things that could have happened to Baltimores economically depressed condition. A huge influx of taxpayer money will “fix everything”. Just as the governor attempted to use the “Baltimore strong” language reminiscent of the 9-11 attacks, American taxpayers will eventually pick up the tab in a vain attempt to restore Baltimore to its former glory. Only way to do that is restore government with big changes, forcing cities to be fiscally responsible.

For these Republicans are not those that I would choose or vote for to contribute to running our nation . If our government can send trillions of dollars overseas over these last three years and squabble about the cost of infrastructure in our own country why would anybody want these people to represent our nation. I would really love for the new station to respond with the names of the Republicans who are against this. I am sure not only myself but there will be many others who agree with me and will not vote for those people come next election .

I hope everyone gets to enjoy traveling on the new Baltimore Bridge, when it is completed.

What kind of "maintenance " causes a ships engine to stop less than a day after, and what was wrong with the rudder, looks like it targeted one of the supporting sections to get maximum dammage.
