    I've finally played Bloodborne, with the dlc ofc, after 4 years since i started playing souls games. Finished my first run about a week ago and since then I've finished it twice for the other endings and man.. as someone who has 100+ hours on DS3 and about 200 on ER, BB to me feels the best. If we're talking about DLC i cant yet decide between Ringed City and Old hunters being my favourite, i need a but more time to digest bloodborne. For now I'll give a slight edge to Ringed City because of Gael and Midir but man, Ludwig, Kos and Maria were some of my favourite experiences of fighting bosses, absolute masterpieces

    Imo Artorias of the Abyss is the best DLC, I haven't played Bloodborne :( but I really don't like the areas in Ashes of Ariandel and Ringed City both DLC have some amazing bosses but it really feels like I am just running for 10 minutes to get to the good part every time I play it where Artorias of the Abyss is consistently good imo. Really hoping they put this in Elden Ring at some point. There are so many amazing fights in there that I want to replay more often, but going through the entire game is a big time investment. Even while rushing, the average player will spend quite a few hours getting to Malenia or Godfrey.

      Yeah, it might not have been a true dlc but the update was massive. Inner Owl is straight up my number 1 bestest, most favourite boss in the entire Fromsoft catalogue. And if a "dlc" managed to do that it deserves that 1.5 spot at least.

    • @Ralfatus

      For me Ringed City was super frustrating, with the enemy level, poison swamp with those angels shoots at you. The demon boss, idk even why are they there. Then the judicators and their summons, pure missery. And the boss before Geal. And Midir's fight. Maybe i should git gud, till this day i couldn't beat midir. Geal was spectalce although honestly, he had a bit too much hp. For me the old hunters dlc is on top, maybe I'm a bit biased.
      For ds2 Ivory crown is the last. Although the location does look good, and exploring is great, but litterly 2 of 3 bossfights are the same enemies😂.
      Sunken king is far better in terms of bossfights, Elana is a good fight where her summoning machanic makes the fight more engaging, and sinh is supposedly the 2nd best dragon fight, so yeah.
      For the gank fight there is a pattern for the run back, you can do it without taking damage. Surprisingly the can also be good, it depends on your build and if you yourself are good.
      Lastly Iron dlc is the best out of ds2's, i dont i have to explain myself why

      Ringed City is the most overrated piece of media of all time. It's a very good looking piece of crap. You rush through every area so you don't get sniped, can't explore, and try to rush through the boring swamp area to the bosses. The bosses are great except the spear of the church, but are still tanky and tedious overall.

    I never got to play BB's DLC even though I really want to (plz BB pc we need it) so I can't talk about that one but Ringed City is just peak souls. I think Gael is the best boss they've ever made, Midir is also an amazing boss fight and people sleep on demon princes when talking about Ringed City but they're such a fun fight with a really cool twist. Anw that's all the bosses of that DLC, totally didn't forget any 4th boss at all. Friede heavily carries her DLC and in fact she's the only reason to do that DLC tbh but I still think her fight is awesome. Overall I still prefer DS3 over ER simply cause of the DLCs and some other bosses like Nameless King or Dancer but I think Miyazaki is cooking something on par with Ringed City if not even better.

      I like Ashe’s of Ariandel mainly bc of Friede, but I also think the town is some cool level design and overall it’s interesting lore. As for Ringed City it’s all around amazing except that painful death run between the top and the bottom with a million heralds in between. Demon prince is honestly my favorite fight of the dlc bc of how cool they and the arena are, the differences based on who goes down first, and the music. It’s one of the most satisfying and intense fights imo. My first time I was so shook when I finally killed the last and it just got up and exploded 😨

    Eh, I like The Old Hunters the most, it has far better area and level design than TRC. All 3 areas are classics. Base game Bloodborne has 15 main weapons, TOH adds 11 more (and 2 transformations), it's to the point where it is an integral part of game and Bloodborne feels incomplete without it.
    So disappointed we never got a Sekiro DLC where we fight Lady Tomoe, Kingfisher, Dogen, or Sekijo in his prime.

    • @TravisSgyatt
      @TravisSgyatt 6 месяцев назад

      I loved the weapons, armor and bosses. But man I thought the first area was neat in concept, but I didn’t care for it. Just wanted to get through it to see if that was all they had. Luckily I thought the hospital asylum place and fishing hamlet were pretty sweet, more so the asylum. Those shark dudes were rough lol. But yea ultimately, I really don’t think it adds as much depth and finality as TRC did. It had great weapons, armor, patches little quest which was nice, and the bosses were fantastic. Old hunters however did have the best boss music for sure

  • @DWFTW
    @DWFTW 7 месяцев назад +5

    A good list. Just my reaction when you started the music though makes it clear to me I'll swap 1 and 2. Old Hunters is just the best. I do enjoy Gael more than any of their bosses, but Midir and Demon Prince (and Halflight) rank below the likes of Ludwig, Orphan and Maria to me for sure. I also always have a soft spot for remixed zones, like the Nightmare Cathedral Ward. It's also why Artorias of the Abyss would swap with Old Iron King for my own list. I did like seeing the reference to DkS2 in the Ringed City big amalgamation for a similar reason, but it's nowhere near as significant as the DkS1 and BB DLCs which are literally based on the same areas, but done in interesting ways. That said Old Hunters is at it's best outside of that segment, but it's still something I liked about it.
    Honestly I'd probably put Ivory King above Ashes of Ariandel as well. It's certainly not great and has some of the lowest lows, and I honestly don't even really like Ivory King due to how tedious the start segment is, but the way the exploration works, how the ice disappears after you reach the end changing up the exact same locations you've just been exploring, including the obvious frozen mimic which I always found quite amusing, and even just small parts like the fact you can just go fight Aava while he's invisible if you want. It has a lot of touches to it I just really like. On the flip side, Ashes of Ariandel only really has Friede and some interesting weapons going for it in my opinion. I mean I quite liked the big vikingy dudes I forget the name of, but they aren't interesting to fight either. Wolves, flies, trees, gravity. I liked the lore aspect of the Followers being there and also how it expands on the Sable Church, but those don't elevate it from being more of a hassle to explore than actually enjoyable to me.

    @meyes1098 Месяц назад +1

    I'd put every single ds2 dlc way above ds3's dlc lol.
    Ds3 dlc brought interesting areas, but dogshit bosses. It brought some of the most bs bosses (Friede), tedious bosses with some of the worst hitboxes in the series (Midir), or straight out forgettable bosses (the twin demons, or the last boss from ringed city, Gaelic or something, forgot his name).
    IMO only borderline decent boss was the the big wolf in Ariandel.
    So I'd rank them like so:
    1 - Old Iron King
    --- Everything was perfect with this DLC. The area was amazing, the regular enemies were great, the bosses were some of the best in the series. Really can't find even one flaw with this one.
    2 - ER DLC (it's out as of writing this)
    --- I would honestly have put it at nr. 1, if not for it's over reliance on bs moves, 234626 hit combos, stupidly delayed attacks that make no sense (that they even put on 90% of the regular enemies) and just an empty feeling map.
    3 - Artorias dlc
    --- Visually amazing, but the regular enemies were IMO crap, with just a few good ones. The bosses were generally good, but I'd put Manus as S tier, Artorias as A tier, and Kalameet as B tier, not that great. The sanctuary guardian was IMO dogshit.
    4 - Old Ivory King
    --- Beautiful area with great exploration, but pretty bad regular enemies, and 2/3 are average bosses, with the Ivory King being an SS tier boss IMO, but it can't really drag the score up too much.
    5 - Old Sunken King
    --- The area is not that good. It looks too bleak, but has lots of secrets, which is nice. Has good regular enemies, but 2/3 average bosses, and an S tier dragon boss. Not much more to say about it.
    6 - Ringed city
    --- Beautiful areas with random nonsensical throwbacks to ds2, pretty average and forgettable bosses though. Only good boss was Midir, and even it relied almost exclusively on tedium. Honestly can't remember much about the twin demons and Gaelic, since they died way too quickly and weren't interesting in the slightest. The area as I mentioned is amazing, but the dogshit regular enemies in the area make it a complete slog.
    10 - Ariandel
    ---- Where do I even start, this dlc was a dumpster fire xD the only redeeming things about it are the area, which is beautiful (I'm biased towards snowy locations), and the wolf boss. Everything else was IMO just bad, with the regular enemies being just random crap that's both badly designed and forgettable, and one of the worst bosses in ds3 with that Friede woman that has 3 phases. She's the worst of both worlds: visually she's garbage, and has the difficulty curve of Malenia, but relying on bullshit and bad hitboxes, as opposed to the organic difficulty of Malenia.
    Yes, there's a 4 slot jump between Ringed City and Ariandel, I think it's that much worse :)))
    Don't really give a shit about bloodborne dlc, since I don't play console exclusive shit out of principle.

The entire main area of eleyum loyce is so much more fun to explore than ariandel. The underground pyramids of Shulva are much cooler and sin and elana are dope. When you look at those two dlcs as a whole and then look at ariandel. It does everything people hated about them. GANKS, BLINDING SNOW (but with tons of wolves and knights this time), etc. the rotted town isn’t really fun to go through with the corvians acting like a prototype of the royal revenant and the bug section is just a short time consumer. Friede doesn’t make up for a whole dlc.

      Bloodborne has mostly boring or annoying areas. The Hunter’s Dream, the city parts of Central Yharnam, and the Cathedral Ward are cool; Iosefka’s Clinic is decent; the two Nightmare areas though along with Yahar’gul, Old Yharnam, the Forbidden Woods, Lecture Building, Upper Cathedral, and the sewers of Central Yharnam are all either uninteresting or just flat-out tedious to go through. The same thing goes for the majority of the chalice dungeons. Even worse is that most of them lead to a mediocre boss. Cainhurst Castle and Byrgenwerth are both mid. The Hunter’s Nightmare is basically just a smaller reskin of the Cathedral Ward, the dungeons are pretty mid, the Research Hall is like a larger more tedious version of the Lecture Building, and the Fishing Hamlet mostly just gets carried by the fact that it’s unique and leads to Orphan. It still has pretty shitty areas within it though and not to mention some of the worst ganks in the series. In general most of the Old Hunters has shitty ganks and its areas are mostly carried by having actual good bosses in them. Not to mention that Bloodborne as a whole gets hard carried by its DLC.

      @@handzofstone1152 if you don't enjoy it then fair enough, out of all the fromsoftware games its the most polarising. but tbh most of what you said sounds pretty subjective, i have no idea what horrible ganks you're referring to or why those areas in particular are tedious compared to the others, and if you think half the game is garbage then why are you even playing it lol. i do have a bias coz its my favourite from game, but even when that wasn't true coz i was terrible at it, i was still really engaged. objectively the areas are very interactive and complex with great storytelling, the enemies punish you for bad play without feeling unreasonable when you do things right, and as long as you actually enjoy the gameplay then there isn't a lot wrong with any of the areas. and sure the chalices are mid with mid bosses but they're purely optional areas added as a free bonus for anyone wanting more content, they don't bring down the quality of the game since you never need to go in them. my point isn't that bloodborne is perfect or you can't have an opinion, its totally valid not to enjoy it, but just because you don't like it personally doesn't mean it's objectively terrible. elden ring was way less fun for me personally than ds3 and bloodborne coz i didn't like a lot of the ways they went with it, that doesn't mean i think it's a bad game it's just not for me

    Objective answer, if my uneducated ass had to guess, would be the Ringed City. It has the best bosses, most interesting weapons, lore that satisfyingly ties into DS1 (unlike the fan service in the basegame), is almost entirely made up of unique enemies. The only bad thing is the atrocious level design.
    My personal pick goes to Old Hunters. Not because I think it’s better than Ringed City - because I don’t - but more that it did more for the basegame than DS3 for me. Bloodbornes basegame had an interesting premise in the first half, but goes balls to the wall with the second half that ruined the excitement of seeing an alien Great One. Its levels, outside of a few, were pretty terrible. The bosses, outside of aesthetics, were quite mechanically uninteresting too. The visuals were boring, dull and repetitive (although, I understand that it’s by design). Unremarkable NPC/quests (other than Alfred)
    The Old Hunters LITERALLY saved that game from being mid, to me. It fixed all those issues I had with Lore, Boss design, visuals, level design etc.. it fixed them all. Of course, there are issues: like how the entire 1/3 of the DLC just a reskin, and that 2/5 bosses are quite terrible in their own way, or how the NPC/quests never get improved upon (I don’t blame the Ild Hunters for this, Fromsoft DLCs almost never have interesting NPCs) but other than that it’s a great piece

    I personally rank sunken king dlc much higher. I love the verticality in the level, and it's the only time souls games did some actually clever puzzles. I liked being able to use bow to shoot levers and stuff. Was dissapointed in elden ring in the inverted tower that when I shot the lever at top of the tower with bow, nothing happened. Anyways sunken king was like they were experimenting mixing more zelda into souls. The traversal of ivory king dlc is also interesting, as you basically go through the map twice first frozen and then unfrozen. I do agree with your sentiment with the ashes of ariandel, friede alone carries that dlc for me. I think ringed city is overrated though, I don't like the map progression, midir is boring endurance boss for me, demon prince and gael are pretty much the only cool thing about it, demon prince being one of my favorite bosses.

    Personally I'd swap Old Hunters and Ringed City. But mostly it's because they have the best version of Moonlight GS in there.
    I think thematically they are on par. RC is the end to the sweeping epic that is the DS series. It's appropriately grand in kind. OH is a smaller story that tries to find solace after injustice on a scale which cannot be atoned for. Kinda fitting for our current historical moment.
    Both very different but both effectively executed, in my view.
    SotE has some big expectations to meet. I think that ER is the best thing From have ever done to date. It is fractally complex and everybody wants something different from the DLC. I'm actively trying to temper my expectations because I know that they will not explain everything I want explained. But damn is it hard.
