Hey Prod, Aussie here. Firstly, your Australian accent is terrible. I love it. Hearing you struggle to do the accent makes it that much better. As a comparison to somewhere in the US, you could say Australia is most like Texas. Lots of desert, hot in the summer, but also cities near water, the animals are crazy, and so on. Some of the things in this game are based off of Aboriginal folklore, or dreamtime stories as they call it. These are often stories passed down through generations, many of which are used to stop kids from misbehaving, or as a caution to not do something. The Namorrodor is supposed to be a spirit that appears as a shooting star, before it transforms into a creature that is attracted to the smell of meat and hunts babies to eat their hearts. Yep, that's what it does. The Rainbow Serpent is very important in Aboriginal stories as well, as it was thought to be responsible for creating life, and rivers. It's a giver of life, but can be a destructive force if angry. The serpent travels across the land, shaping the landscape and leaving behind "life", which helps the wellbeing of the environment and the people that live in it. So there's your history lesson, folks! Hope this helps you all out, if you're a bit confused, haha.
I cannot think of any other video game set in Australia (not that there's many) that actually has the creatures/spirits from the Dreamtime in it- like even the more obscure ones that most people in Australia don't know about. That alone is pretty heartwarming and hopefully there's more games out there that delves deeper into the folklore/mythology of Australia, and other countries that don't get to see their stories come to light.
@@lololollololol629Australia wasn’t a prison colony. That’s a common misconception. Most of Australia was populated by English, Irish and Asian migrants.
@@zzodysseuszz The first to go there and start colonising it were prisoners though, very little of it was a prison colony but there were still over 162000 prisoners sent to Australia between 1788 and 1868, and the ones who served their sentences became settlers..
Strewth, mate. She’s pretty bloody accurate ay? Just like going round to me Nan’s fer a cuppa! Nah seriously tho, good on ya mate fer havin’ a crack. She’s bloody rough out there.
I've heard male Sydney funnel web spiders can be pretty aggressive if you run into them while they are out looking for females, and they have fangs that can go through leather boots... They also sometimes hide in shoes, and they are the deadliest spider in the world..
Hey, I saw Rimmy play this game, you are in for a trip. Remember to watch out for drop bears. They look like Koalas, but they actively seek to rip off your face!
@awhellnah__ Drop bears are an actual enemy in this game, and they jump on your face to attack, thus the "rip off your face," part. They make no sound, so at any second, you too can be a victim of a demonic koala's murder face glomp.
It's bizarre that we don't see more games set in Australia. All you have to do is make the natural wildlife slightly bigger and you've got yourself a survival horror game.
the 'godsnake' is likely based on the Rainbow Snake of aboriginal folklore. suppoedly, if i remeebr right,t he rivers were formed by the movement of its long body
It's not just the Souls-like tags though. It's many tags that are included in games that have absolutely nothing to do with the genre. The RPG tag is littered with non-RPG games. And apparently JRPG these days means any game made in Japan. Wish Valve actually put some effort into ensuring the tags are at least somewhat representative of what kind of game it is.
When you think hitting the goat is just a on-rails coding error and will be removed, but then Prod goes back and the goat is still there and still dead This gon be a good game
FYI those lizards are called frilled-neck lizards, not komodo dragons (we don't have those but we do have other types of monitor lizards). Anyway everything else about this is true.
man never played a single game of darts in his life. when he keeps landing a triple and says double. form 20 got 60 and his brain didn't process that sheeeeesh
Only in summer does the Australian wilderness become ultra aggressive. Winter time - walk around in the bush, it is wonderful. Summer time - the bush is ABSOLUTELY FULL of aggressive insects and arachnids. You just cant go in there.
Easily the most accurate depiction of Australia ever to be put in a video game.
Also, the only depiction of Australia ever to be put in a video game.
XD

"A distant land with a lore thats filled with violence and bandits...Everything wants to kill you...Souls? No?...Im talking about Australia"
Path of exile is also pretty much Australia, it's a prison colony where everything wants you dead..

This is my favorite Prod video by far. I need, at least, a ten part series.
Prod, it is Australia, of course the spiders run after you. The very land itself knows you are an outsider, so it does its best to unalive you.
Literally what Funnel Webs do. The housing shortage is due to all the houses given up to Funnel Webs.
Grab the stubbies and your iso alcohol, relax in your collapsible chair and watch out for the huntsman’s.
Though they’re usually harmless.
16:02 that is Aboriginal Dreamtime story the Rainbow Serpent which they believe created the rivers
I absolutely love Prod's attempts at any accent just becomes cockney/chav lmao.

The coin toss game is called two-up. It’s not really played much anymore, except on special days like ANZAC Day
The most realisitc part of this is the constant mozzies flying around you

@awhellnah__ if you need adp in ds2 then you wouldn’t survive Australia lmao
Gonna be honest (no gammon, fair dinkum etc) that little outback pub area at the start is really accurate.
I'm pretty sure that massive serpent is meant to depict the Rainbow serpent shooting tornadoes... it's pretty common here
