@5:47 if anything else, you could use a yoga mat too, if thats all you can get
Well now ... this just kicked off all kinds of inspiration.
Ok, that was cool. Norman Chan over at Tested did something similar. Now we just need Bob to 3d print something and Jimmy to weld something and we'll have the trifecta of examples!
And Steve Ramsay to do one with just a jig saw, and "extra fancy" purple paint and spray lacquer. And Modern HOME DEPOT Builds to make one HOME DEPOT in Joshua HOME Tree DEPOT with three tools. Sponsored by HOME DEPOT.
Beautiful project. Reminds me of a 1980's arcade. :)
And I'm definitely looking forward to my holiday card this year!
I've used this to make a sign for a friend as a present. Regarding the brightness, I bought a strip with power supply that also incorporated a power switch that also dimmed the strip, you just hold your finger on the touch sensitive button.
Im so glad I found your tutorial!!!! The fact that you show different ways to create this is great! Everyone I keep looking at is just a reel of them making a sign with NO tutorial!!! My son is opening a tattoo shop and I want to make him a gift! Thank you for sharing your time!!!!👍❤️😊
Nice work! Took me a while to work out the kinks to my workflow in making LED Neon signs/art. (handcrafted iowa). People say..."that's not neon". Yep it's not...neon gas...but they are bright NEON colors!
Nice job! I was just going to glue my "neon" down, but I may have the confidence to rout mine after seeing this. Thank you David!
👍 I like the back light! Thanks for sharing.
I've been following you since the Drunken Woodworker days and I really like how your storytelling has evolved throughout the years, you have a nice flow, you explain details in a clear and understandable way and everything just feels authentic and informative!
Thank you 🙏
Same! Dave is truly 1 of a kind!
This neon light product looks pretty cool, and not overly expensive. I really like the look of these signs and this is giving me ideas for making my own. Thanks for the inspiration!
David, THANK YOU for turning me onto a new product!!!!
Looks like a good application for a French cleat.
Been meaning to try a project with these light strips! Love it. I think the hanging cord looks better because it seems like every bar light just has the cord dangling as well. Seems like a subtle yet vital part of the aesthetic.
Great idea for a kid's Xmas gift. Making one for my daughter in her favorite colors as a "night light"
I like the lights. Very cool. I definitely appreciate the freehand routing lesson. I have big problems with that and I plan on trying this out this weekend on some scrap plywood. Thanks.
As someone else already mentioned, it does remind me of the 80's arcades. I spent a lot of time there as a kid. Also, they always had a cord hanging down. I keep thinking of things I can do with this. One being incorporating this into my new office desk/hutch design. Thank you again for a great video. Once again, I Learned Something.
Absolutely awesome, David! So many ideas just popped into my head for garage/mancave stuff. Also, probably outta not let my wife see this, I might be busy for a while, lol.
I liked the sign with the back neon, I would just use a different color to give it contrast. Thank you for this video I didn't even know they made that kind of product, it looks just like neon!
I love the you start we finish a project idea, Dave is always stepping the bar up and making things awesome!
Love this. Now I have new ideas for my xcarve. This is why I love this channel.
Love these! You can't tell when they are lit up that they're not traditional neon.
Such a creative and practical build for someone to be able to do!
Thanks for keeping the router slip in.. I've had that happen before and it scared the poop out of me. Good to have a healthy respect for the router
They look great! I like the glow on the play.
Thank you for this video. It'd have been so easy for you to do this on your Shaper, but as I don't have one of those I appreciate your techniques for using a regular router. This was extremely helpful. Thank you!
This is so cool. I've been brainstorming ideas for a sign for a while now and this might be the inspiration I need to figure something out.
Doing all I can to keep my Christmas card privileges this year.
Was just talking about these "neon" lights with my wife the other day. I imagine I may have another "honey do" project once I show her this video. Thanks a lot, David! But seriously, great project!
That’s awesome, been looking forward to this since hearing about it on the podcast.
DP, huge fan, watch all your videos. I do a bunch of stuff like this for streamers using LED strips and such. If you wanted to eliminate the cord altogether, you could wire a battery pack to that instead of plugging it in. It's so cool that this was your first time doing freehand routing! Looks great!
I really like the backlit one...
It took me a while to get around to watching this video but this is probably one of my favorite things that you have ever made! Simple and brilliant at the same time! Cant wait to make a similar one someday!
Thank you!!
This is great 👍. So many things to do with it and much cheaper then real neon
Lots of cool playful idea for this application. Thanks..very cool.
very cool! I thought the back glow looked sweet!
I absolutely love this! I have always wondered about freehand routing, I'm going to have to give this a try! Thanks for inspiring me!
Thank you for this video! I learned so much! Question - would this router work on acrylic boards too or just wood? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated since I'm just starting out!
This is awesome!! Especially considering how crazy expensive neons can be!! The one I really want is like $300+, maybe I can try to make it instead lol! Thanks for this!!!
Loved the Projects and yes it looks like Neon !!!
Didn't even know those strips were a thing. That's awesome!
This gave me a few ideas for my daughters wall in her bedroom. Thanks a bunch
cool project!
Very cool and unique project. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Can't wait to see ur next videos. Keep making. God bless.
I really like the idea of a project that we can "do together".
Enjoyed watching you make playful wall art. 😄
I actually like the one with the painted conduit and the glow on the back... Though, both look great! Thanks for the project... very neat.
I like this and hope to get a Christmas card this year
great vid - I've been brainstorming some laser cutter lights and going to make one with a laser!
That looks great! And I'm still on the Christmas card list!
This is really wonderful Dave! I was so excited to see it after you talked about it on the podcast! I would really love to see your next iteration on the concept though! Work with tighter curves, having the lights plunge below the wood and come back out to break up letters, etc.
Great work man!
This is my new favorite project of yours.
I like the PLAY set up
That was a great tutorial! I really loved how you explained all the steps thoroughly and clearly! Lots of tips I wouldn't have come up with on my own. Thank You!
Free Hand sign carver here, a tip when routing over paper is to use packing tape over the design. Turned out great dude!
ahh, yes! Thank you!
to be even more pedantic since christmas is already over, only theorange- red "neon" lights are actually neon. the other colors use different gasses.
Cool. Nice idea! I plan on making some for xmas gifts this fall.
Very good Chanel with great content. Regards.
"Jerk Face." Love IT! Great Project David!
Pretty awesome video! Kept it nice and simple but lots of cool ways to expand upon what you taught.
Nice video! Thank you
This was a great explanation of how to make these kind of signs. Its on the list of new projects.
Dude! This solved a problem I was facing with a project I'm working on for a client! Thanks so much!
Awesome!!
That's a fun project. I'm working on an office/making space in my house that is separate from my shop. This would look good on the wall there.
You could also run the power inside the drywall down to the floor for the clean look
You called them jerk faces!!! I couldn’t love you anymore right now!!!
Yeah those are pretty epic, definitely got some ideas rolling in my head. Also your shop looks incredible, it has that creative good vibe feel.
"Because woodworkers like to complicate things" lol.
So true!
@@MakeSomething also liked the comment about "no Christmas card for you"
I like watching his content, very usefull😊
I think the NASA noodle logo would be a good candidate for selling on your website too.
Can't wait to receive my Christmas card then! 😉
Excelente video, muchas gracias, saludos desde Panamá
Came for the awesome art and came with a free router tips video
Very fun video, I'm just bummed about no Christmas Card this year. Maybe next.
Nice one Bro.
That looks fun and easy. My kind of project.
THIS is the reason I watch your videos!! Thanks for all your inspiration!
By the way, I checked with my wife and she told me that I’m not a Jerk-face so I’ll be expecting my Christmas card from you this year!
Hahaha! Thanks Bill!
You forgot to say "that's not neon" (in a baby voice).
@@DavidPlass 😂
@@DavidPlass If I said that, I wouldn’t get a Christmas card. Lol
Oh man. Great project for my game room!
While I was making my choice of a video to watch I was thinking, "gee, I hope I don't have to watch a soldering tutorial today". Great content as always. p.s. I love all of your content. Wood, camera, go car...Camera.
Pretty cool bro👍👍👍
wow, that looks really cool David!
This is a really cool project! There's all sorts of possibilities for super interesting designs, without having to bend glass tubing and mess with real neon and high voltage components. I'm going to try this out!
"you are a jerkface and you are not getting a christmas card this year"
more people need to hear this. great vid David
This starts out as a great video. I watched half of it and have to go to work now.
Eric Rhoten focuses on freehand routing on his RUclips channel. You might be able to clean some tips from him.
I prefered cord danglig but White, I love contrast with Wall
Very cool Dave, looks very clean. Thanks for the vid!
I can only see PIAY... Not trying to be a jerk, so can I still get a Christmas card :) Seriously though, thanks for the introduction to the product, I have a use for it!
The plane wire dangling down makes it feel like a classic neon sign hanging up in a dark bar. I think it subconsciously makes it feel more real 😂🤷🏻♀️
Love the level of anti-troll sass in this one :D
I’m getting sassier in my old age!
That's not neon...that's amazing! Awesome video and build.
This is great! I need a new sign for my shop.
I bet a lot of people on RUclips don’t get a lot of Christmas cards! Hahaha! Very creative project & looks like fun!
I actually like the backlit one.
Thinking this might be a nice upgrade for Bob's project from years ago..
Great idea. May have to give this ago
I don’t recognize this host-like person…. Where is the red shirt? 🤣
Cool project, nice alternative design
Awesome. I wish my router played music, lol.
Great idea and your shop looks fantastic!
Seriously temped to make these myself, this is such a cool concept!
Very cool.
Cool. Definitely want to try this now.
