Can I catch every Fish in Alphabetical Order or RESET if I mess up?

To test my skills at catching fish in Animal Crossing, I came up with a challenge to catch every fish in alphabetical order. If I catch ANY other fish than the one I'm going for, I must reset and try again. Time starts when I press start to make a new character and ends when I obtain the Golden Rod. Will I be able to pull this off, or will it drive me insane? Watch to find out!

Fish can sometimes be distinguished from one another before they're caught based on their shadow size and behavior. Any fish that isn't the shadow size you're looking for for can be scared away. As for behavior, all fish have preset AI that determines how far away they'll go for the bait, the angle they'll go for the bait, and the duration which they'll bite the bait. With enough skill and practice, you can distinguish between some fish of the same shadow size using their behavior. Furthermore, certain times of the year and day can be selected to increase the odds of specific fish spawning in addition to preventing other fish with the same shadow size and behavior from spawning.
Even with all that knowledge though, many fish still share the same shadow size, behavior, and time of year and day they'll spawn, meaning no matter what you do, it's still up to RNG whether you'll catch the fish you want or not.

i didnt know there was a definitive shadow profile for EVERY fish, and that they could be differentiated on sight, until your streams. impressed with the dedication

Well there's only 6 different shadow sizes (7 including the whale) so to differentiate between some fish, you also need to test their behavior (a.k.a. AI) before you catch them. Even then some fish share the same shadow size, behavior, and time of year and day spawn times, so with those fish it's still up to RNG to catch the one you're going for.

This was such a cool challenge and definitely something that seems like fun to try. I have to ask though, why reset at all? Wouldn't it make more sense to just not do the split until you manage to catch the correct fish you need next? The resetting just seems like it adds tedium and nothing else lol

for the idea of a “pure” file/playthrough I guess. I honestly get it it just feels less legit if you catch a bunch of junk in between and its saved

Resetting adds consequence to catching the wrong fish. Without resetting, there isn't really a challenge since you could just freely catch fish until you catch the one you want. The idea for this challenge is to refine your skills at catching specific fish and having to deal with Mr. Resetti is enough incentive to care to try to catch the correct fish.

love your vids man. Animal crossing and pokemon are my favorite titles of all time. They both offer such great options for play throughs, ranging from extremely casual to shiny nuzlockes and stuff like this. Keep it up man. BTW I think new leaf is the best animal crossing ever and second is wild world, Black is my favorite pokemon ever but shining Pearl or omega ruby is second
