Trapped with Kapp'n for 60 Days and 8 Hours (soft lock escaping)

- This is the story of a boy who got trapped on a small piece of land for 60 days and 8 hours with nothing to do except watch the waves or talk to Kapp'n who refused to give him a boat ride to the island which would save them both.
How did this soft lock happen and how did the boy escape? Watch to find out!
Special thanks to Cuyler for making me an AR Code to advance time. It's really cool I could show the entire soft lock escape in actual (sped up) time without having to wait 2 real months!

Leave a like if you enjoyed this video format and the soft lock escape idea :) I know of another long Animal Crossing GameCube soft lock escape I could make a video on if enough people enjoy the concept!
I would absolutely watch more of this!
This was great :)
This was fantastic. I would love more of these in this format.
It reminds me of Pikasprey's Softlock Picking series in Pokemon, very entertaining to watch.
This was fun, I know this concept is big in Pokemon and elsewhere, and it's definitely fun here too. I really liked your unique take on the concept with the story and framing as well, well done!
maybe this type of situation is why in future games whenever time resets to 6 am you automatically return to your house
I think that's just so the game can process any changes that happen to the town between the days. You can't softlock yourself like this is any of the future games cause you can save and quit from anywhere in the town.
@@TollyHwouldn't that make it worse? that means you can save in a softlocked state (if one can be reached) and permanently brick your savefile
@@guy_th18in later games no matter where you save, you spawn back outside your house when loading the save
That doesn’t happen in New Horizons as far as I know. Just Isabelle’s news broadcast happens. I may be wrong though
Would be funny if the friend gave him an axe but only to find out he needed a shovel too and had to wait again.
I was actually expecting that he'd get rid of the shovel he was holding instead of a beetle in order to pick up the axe, lol.
Fatherless.
That boy grew up to be Katsuya Eguchi, the inventor of Animal Crossing
No way could a kid keep their gamecube on for 60 days without their mom coming over and turning it off and giving them a lecture about how they can leave their gamecube on all night when they pay the electricity bill.
Some parents don't care.
also its a cool way to present the idea
I did the math. According to some guy on Reddit, the GameCube's sticker says the system consumes 39 watts. Multiplying that by 1,448 hours, we get 56 kilowatt hours. Using California's state average cost for kilowatt hours, 14¢, we can calculate that by keeping the GameCube on for 60 days and 8 hours, the boy in the story used $7.84 of electricity. Accounting for inflation, that's $11.60 in today's money.
Side note; If I were the kid in this situation, there's no way I would have opted to wait 60 days and 8 hours. I wouldn't have known about acre reloading trick, so I would have just reset it.
Side side note; what kinda kid knows the innerworkings of Animal Crossing and how it loads acres, yet is afraid of Mr. Resetti in 2009?
@@BoyWithTheCoolName thats still not that much
@@_logan913 My parents always made it seem like power was much more expensive than it was. But that's still $11.60 spent on something that could have been solved by a reset instead of leaving the system on for two months.
The fact this can happen to someone is insane.
I'd love for this to become a series, I'm sure there's tons of creative ways to get stuck and unstuck in Animal Crossing GC
“Alcatraz”…..why didn’t we think of that!!!! 😂
When you don't want to lose 1 day of progress so you don't play for an entire 2 months.
Don't forget to talk to Tortimer today. He will give you the best NES game ever made.
Nice detail that the town is named Alcatraz.
but were there cockroaches in his home when he got back!!!????
And then, before he reached his gyroid, the power went out.
This boy seemed to have some pretty intimate knowledge of animal crossing. I wonder if we know him?
That same boy would probably start at a job he didn't like and would be too nervous to quit so he would just wait until retirement.
now that's just sad.
Yooo! Love this new format. Narrative yet informative, nice work!
I was also wondering to myself about how he could get out, and my heart sunk when I realized that my first idea, was the right idea.
I love Wario's Woods! Those 60 days and 8 hours trapped were totally worth it!!!!
Love this format. Interesting storytelling
I love this so much, reminds me of when id have inner dialogues just like this in my playthroughs 😭😭
Loved the video and format this time around. Is the name Wilson a Cast Away reference? 🤣
Love seeing you here. ❤
Pikasprey would be proud
The joke at the end was fantastic fr
This is Kapp'ns island. And we're all livin' in it.
imagining this story narrated by a true crime youtuber. Horrifying
Fun story and an amusing premise.
This storytelling type of format sounds interesting yet funny at the same time, would love to see more of it!
Now he has to face the wrath of all of his villagers complaining that he’s been ignoring them.
Great video! I was very afraid it was going to be some lame April Fool's joke video at first. You should definitely do more like this.
What a creative idea for a video! I loved the story you put over the whole thing
loved this new format, keep up the hard work buddy
Great story! Anytime I get to go down an Animal Crossing rabbit hole, I'm all for it. Hope to see more like this!
At the end i thought this was going to become a economics lesson and start talking about opportunity costs.
Yooooo. Always look forward to your posts. Banger vids consistently. Been a fan since I came across your bellionare video. Love learning stuff about the original animal crossing in your vids. ❤
great and informative video! lost it at the dude laughing at the end
this is a classic human blunder 😆 "do i reset now and lose one day's worth of work, or do i leave the game on for dozens and dozens of days during which i cannot even play this or any other game in order to avoid losing one day's worth of work?" yes you should absolutely restart the game and just catch 11 new bugs. but there's no pride in that, only humility. and, it's also not content 🤭 nice vid!
wake up babe new brianmp16 video just dropped
not now babe I’m watching the new video brianmp16 just dropped
Love the video format. You’re the best
Softlock picking is one of my favorite things to hear about!!
This is brilliant, I love it!
The narrative style of this is hilarious!
Omg! This narration style reminds me of being read a bedtime story!!
i've been playing this game since 2002 and i had NO idea you could visit a friend's island until now! i could've had so much fun with that with my like half dozen different towns/islands 😂
loved the storytelling in this video!
60 days for to save a rare bug ... sounds like smth I'd srsly consider for a sec 😭😭
this is so cute!! enjoyed watching very much 🥰
I love soft lockpicking videos!
oh noooo! I didn't know whether to laugh or cry for our poor hero 😅 thank you for sharing this cute, funny story
Very appropriate way to pay homage to sun tzu
Reminds me of the wild world creepypasta sorta
Storytelling in AC is untapped potential, well done
great video, love the style
This was delightful! :^)
this was a brilliant april fools video
Hell yeah, pikasprey for animal crossing
I wish E+ was translated, it'd be a good expansion for English players who never seen it before
Pikasprey fan?
This is a dope video
This was a pretty cool story you told using the basic mechanics of the game! On an unrelated note, I would like my free 450 town tickets my good sir. Thanks!
Great vid
The fear of Resseti was never so paralyzing to me.
How do you visit a friend's island? GBA Island trade?
This is a perfect example of what good storytelling skills can do. It was really a very simple scenario, but it was interesting to watch despite that.
I would’ve preferred this as a normal video
i like format
Ooo storytelling
getting Chubby Emu vibes from the narration
Where I live, even though we typically don't have long blackouts, the power still cuts off briefly every once in a while. I guess Wilson's power supply is very stable, or maybe he also had his GameCube connected to a UPS for a situation like this. 😄
I really like this narrative way of explaining soft locks - its a lot more engaging!
Lol what if he got the axe home and realized he needed a shovel too
Am I the only one who thinks this might be improved by ominous ChubbyEmu music?
"A boy planted trees before visiting the island. This is what happened to his game."
Go advertise elsewhere
Wilson
2:26 doesn't it save to the memory card in Slot A? Wouldn't that have made it so he ONLY had to deal with Resetti, not actually lose any prorgress?
Love the way you framed this as a story, with a moral and everything. Super cute!
How many Gamecube memory cards do you own?
Good day everyone
Horrifying!
Yeah. No. It was absolutely not worth it. Lmao. With all of that time the boy could've done way more productive things in the game.
Oh look, a spin-off of Pikasprey's "SoftLockPicking" 😄
WARIOS WOODS
nice
June 7th is my birthday!
It was for siance
Sorry for more spam comments but the program told me to.
^ again

I like the softlock and escape process but I don't really jive with the storytelling framing device, just feels a little awkward and wooden imo
Agreed, I'd much rather just have a clean technical explanation
First but I dont care, and I don’t know why i commented this
Ruuudee 😁
I've been playing this on my Wii with homebrew, anyone know how to get to the island without a GBA?
