  • The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) Office of Climate and Energy hosted a virtual listening session on Michigan Healthy Climate Plan implementation: Protecting Michigan’s land and water. The Jan. 22 session focused on the state's goals for "protecting Michigan’s land and water,” including these priority action areas:
Protect 30% of Michigan’s land and water by 2030. This effort is part of the national ‘America the Beautiful’ initiative, with a goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions naturally, while maintaining and improving recreational opportunities for all Michiganders, expanding access in disproportionately impacted communities, and protecting biodiversity.
Support farmers. Help farmers adopt best management practices to keep our soil healthy, store more carbon, and protect our water.
Drive clean technology. Boost the shift to cleaner, greener farm equipment, like electric and hydrogen-powered tools.
Building off previous work and input, we’re continuing to prioritize and deepen our work on implementation through these listening sessions. The intended audience is anyone interested in or who has experience with a climate action area of the Plan, including local governments, state government, nonprofits, businesses, community members, etc.
