Awesome dad your son is very well taught! I’m going to try some different food sources other then corn. I’m gonna try this out and some others I looked up on RUclips
Im pouring this over my pancakes!!.....I used to dump a pile of cracked corn near my stand. id watch bucks and does take just a few bites and move on. A friend reminded me deer are browsers. there for they wouldn't stay long. as if they were afraid to stay too long. I followed his advice by mixing molasses and cracked corn in a 5gal. bucket. then shake and spread it all over my stand area. Make them smell it out and dig under leaves. They were then "browsing" for there meal.I could tell they were more relaxed.I think they could tell the piles were fake so they would just take a few bites and walk on.When spreading on forest floor I could see up to 20 deer around me and some would even fight others for the good stuff.20 yrs of hunting and never seen a fight till I did this.A 12 pt. and 10pointer fought so aggressively they both left bleeding. And the very next day 2 does boxed it out for at least 10min. Just wanted to share this. Good job with your helper. he has so many memories coming to him. And you also.Thank you.
hey, Great story, thanks so much for sharing, and congrats on seeing some beauty deer. my helper is my "reason" thanks for watching and have a happy new year
Just wanted to say thank you for all the cool video's.. Hope to see ya at the feed store in Hartland someday for a friendly chat about hunting and trapping ...
An empty 2 QT creamer bottle (Dunkin Donut original) works great for this mix, or many things like water storage. They are squared so store well together, easy to hold, large mouth for ease of filling, and very good easy-resealable non-leaking flip top lid. Also, using a glass mixing cup allows you to warm the molasses in the micro (slightly)... mixes better. Keep a small bowl to catch drips after/when pouring. Love the repurposed funnel system.
Glad I found your channel and I'm definitely a subscriber. Just started getting ready to get my food plot in here in Cape Breton and I will be trying out your homemade recipes for sure. Thanks for all your tips and advice and good luck on the 2020 hunting season.

Hey Wildman love all of your videos was just wondering if you can use liquid molasses that you can buy at the grocery store or does it have to be from a feed store? Is there a difference?
Just watched a video for doing salt blocks on tree stumps.....vice on the ground due to EHD (meant CWD) originating in the soil?? I think if that's the case, it might be worth exploring alternative methods for your deer attractant to keep from perpetuating CWD. What are your thoughts? (just noticed a similar comment from J Weyandt)
Yes I often use a stump or Dead logs when the location is good for that however, where i am deer naturally find mineral deposits in the ground...they lick and eat the dirt in an attempt to get the much needed calcium, magnesium, and such during the spring...how is this different than putting a mixture on the ground??
no, i was using my bear bait molasses, i usually get my molasses in a water cooler jug to make it easier to pour, but i just used what i had for the video. where i am they will fill just about any container.
depends a lot on the area, apple is always good and works everywhere, the molasses is great in areas where there are fewer bears, they won't stay cause there is no food, but if you get a lot of bear traffic the deer traffic will slow...

Can you use trace mineral salt in place of regular table salt
absolutely. great idea
Put your minerals or food on a stump... not the ground. Stumps do not contain CWD prions, but the ground does.
Good Advice...
I don't hunt anymore but have a few acres 5 love to watch them feed

EHD is caused by midge fly bites and there isn’t any evidence it’s passed from deer to deer. I think your talking about CWD.
@@00_ELECTRICWIZARD_00 you are correct Sir...
@@outlaw7195 absolutely agree Sir...just talking "prevention" or trying not to "perpetuate" the problem...Cheers!
I've used Pure Vanilla in it too.........does it help? I dunno.........
So when should I start putting it out and how long should I wait until I put it out again
I start with this usually around the middle of August and will re-apply about every 3-4 weeks until season starts.
Have you tried putting a spout on the bucket? Looking at doing thr same set up as you but looking fir an easier method
no, i was using my bear bait molasses, i usually get my molasses in a water cooler jug to make it easier to pour, but i just used what i had for the video. where i am they will fill just about any container.
Have you ever used certo in the mix to make it thicker??
I use certo in my apple and wild berry jams, not this one, i'm sure it would be ok
I gotta see if I can get that molasses in the states
it's feed molasses...i would think any grain store would have it in bulk
How big of a container is that again and that molasses, where do you purchase that? Feed molasses? Enjoyed the video
it's a gallon container, and i buy my feed molasses at a local co-op feed store
Mark C If you’re in NY molasses is expensive if you buy in a super market
patriot time I was wondering if you take granulated molasses and rehydrate it.
All you got to do is Adler Crush mineral block then you're good I'm going to try that stuff tomorrow and I'll give you a feedback on it
For sure, Please let us know how you make out with it...

i buy it at a local feed mill, NB seed growers

Great video 👍🏻. Do you find that the molasses jam works better than the apple jam that you make?

Would you mix this with corn
not where i am....to many bears, but you can if bears are not a big problem in your area
Could I substitute corn syrup for the molasses?
Would adding cornstarch to thicken it be a bad idea
no, i would think that would be an added bonus
Do you hunt bear too? Gona give this a try for deer! Thanks for the tip.

adds protein and carbohydrates

it's feed molasses, buy it in bulk from a grain store...no brand name...they have about three ton in storage and sell it by the kg
Is there a way to make it thicker like Buck jam the stuff I am used to is almost a gel
If you wanted to thicken it up you would want to use a Pectin product. Its used in canning Jams and Jelly's and wont effect the flavor. Probably add a dollar to the cost of the mix. Sure Jell is a common name brand but there are cheaper products out there.
you can add high fructose syrup to the mix and it will thicken, also the comment from "problems we hate" is right on
Flour
Use jello and some flour
Hey where did you buy the feeding molasses at?
Roger Kerr I don’t know
I get mine at the co-op feed store in Hartland NB
Thanks for sharing going to try this in New Brunswick also, what's the reason for flour in the mixture
makes little chunks in the mix so it all doesn't soak into the ground or stump, leaves some on the surface, so when they find it they can taste it, then they will paw for more....far as i know
Do you think corn syrup would work in this mix?
it might, i've never tried it
Give the measurements cups
Where do you buy your molasses?
co-op feed store in Hartland NB
Meat your molasses a bit thins it right out way easier to use

Hey NB would you say this works better than your apple slop? Or is there a better time for it?
better if there are fewer bears in the area, molasses is a great smell for deer. but it will bring in a few bears to check out the scent as well.
1/4 cup flour, 1 lb table salt, 1 kg feed molasses, fill the rest with water
yepper
Dry molasses?
That kid is cute. Baiting is illegal in Alberta... Seems like everyone is doing it...
I use my stuff mostly for pre-season camera stuff, and yea he's my little hunting pal
Isnt this is what causes C.W.D..when any of this kind of deer atractant gets. In the ground the deer are also injesting the dirt ???
the jury is still out on that as far as i know, however it is best to pour this on stumps or dead logs anyway...
They claim that these scents make deer come into groups which spreads it
But deer get into groups in the wild no matter what so it isn’t really that bad
