I made this recipe last year for open season. First night a 6 point buck wandered in behind 2 does. Will be using this year, this week for open season. Great stuff thanks for sharing! Nova Scotia, Canada 🇨🇦
Ingredients 1. 2 liters of warm water 2. Half a bag of icing sugar. About 1 pound 3. 1 pound of table salt.(or salt of your preference) 4. 1 box of cherry jello. 5. 2 liters of apple juice. 6. 1 package of Certo
Sooo, i gave it a first try in my hunting area, which was given up by the previous owner because he never got any deer. I was also getting desperate already, hadn't seen a single deer since the first of May (when season is starting here and usually you see lots of them), even if i had been out mornings and evenings almost every day, more than 15 times for several hours. I put that mixture out. The same evening, nothing was at the trail camera - the next evening, a deer! And it was busy several minutes at the stump over which i poured the mixture. So, it seems like this is working for very shy european roe deer also, and it's working quite well. Thanks for sharing the recipe!
How’s it going? I live in North Carolina and I used your recipe. Poured the mixture straight into the dirt and that same night the deer were already digging for it. Great stuff
I have my own version of this I add some Comega Supreme in mine for the extra fat and omega fatty acids. Deer love it good bate source and good source of extra nutrients for early spring and thru the summer. I add some extra vitamins and calcium in for spring and summer
With Chronic waste Disease(WSD) aka blue tongue getting to be more ramped would the buck jams in Molasses flavor and the apple flavor be better off on stumps and logs versus the dirt. The dirt is where they are getting the parasites. Maybe even building a cheap pvc pipe feeder?? Questions and food for thought.
Good suggestion, I often use stumps and logs...however i can't see this being any different than when deer eat the dirt and mud looking for natural minerals in the spring?
James W I know how to hunt! A good hunter wants healthy deer. A great hunter helps maintain and improve the deer population. Then you got bush league hunters that don’t know anything and shoot the first thing they see. Which are you
Great video. Thanks for the idea and recipe. I'm just wondering if anyone has tried using powdered gelatin and blooming it first and then adding to the mixture to "tighten" it up? Or a cornstarch slurry....
I don't know if it's just my area or what but we tried this and had video of deer coming to the corn and sniffing and then walking around it as if they were trying to avoid the area. That went on for 3 or 4 days and we finally had to shovel the corn up and through it away then scrap the ground and then put fresh corn down before the deer would start back eating the corn. I am in north central NC by the way.
I hope no offense if I comment on your deer lure with marshmallows in it on this site; I can't find the other sire. Your recipe calls for a large pack of cherry kool-aid. The dollar store was out of cherry so I used hawaiian-punch. Deer didn't seem to mind, they loved it! Ha ha!! Thanks for great videos!!
So I watched your video and made a 4L jug worth, is there a way to make it thicker like buck jam ? cus that stuff last along time. Feels like it’s too watered down like you have to leave a bucket out with it in
I made this yesterday and let it sit over night, though it's more "liquidy" than I think it should be. The Certo and Jello never really thickened it up, I'm going to use it and I like the concept of it. I just think it needs to be a thicker, not quite thick like molasses, but should be much thicker than water.
yes, i find that for some reason it doesn't always thicken up like i would like, if you want you can add some corn syrup to thicken it and it will still work great
@@NBWildman So I tried another batch and doubled the jello portion and the certo.. All it did was create a film on the top for the certo and it's still pretty much just water. I'm now slowly adding mixed hot water and corn starch to make this thick. I put the first batch out and all it did was soak into the ground and nothing came. You have way too much water and apple juice in this to make it thick with the little bit of jello and certo you are adding. I think it should be more like a thicker pancake batter, not water.
T.J. Mitchell i’m thinking about doing this and mixing it up with corn and sweet feed for the deer hunting season... what is your recipe cause i’d also like it to be thicker
It smell exactly like the buck jam that i buy at the store. But it wont get that gooey texture. Its closer to water. I will try it anyway but it might wash away pretty quick with the rain
I just tried this for my first time and can't wait to use it. I have been wondering how long and how I should store it? I put it in air tight Mason Jars and have it sitting outside in the cold.
Could I make this with the exact ingredients that you use for the wild berry buck jam?? Just use the concentrated apple juice, and a cherry jello, then the salt, and corn syrup, and water, and the sodium carbonate laundry booster?? Do ya think that would turn out fine??
you can make up a bunch, but i would watch the temperature, feed molasses will expand and release some gasses at a slow rate, but i have had some bottles swell and break if you don't store them at a consistent temp.
Just put out a batch of your $5.00 deer attractant from the dollar store, fingers crossed. I bet if you made this jam and heated it up it would set like regular jelly. I am going to try it and will let you know how it turns out.
pouting. Assume you could add a jar of Apple Sauce instead of the apple juice, perhaps even some crushed or diced apples (food processor). How about adding 1 cup corn meal (in the molasses jam vs flour?) Thanks NB

I tried this twice and both times it didn’t thicken up. The second time I tried I use less water and two packets of jello and it still was like water. Any advice?
sometimes the jello doesn't do it's thing correctly, the product will still work, but if you want it thicker you can add either corn syrup or applesauce to the mix
This does work I tried it last season worked awesome... got a nice 10 pointer at the spot, went to my spot last week and was still being hit... had to re-watch the vid to get recipe again lol... again thanks for sharing
Hey there, what was that last ingredient you used there? The ingredient for jams and stuff? I don't live in the US, so I am not sure if my country's stores have something like that - is it just some form of gelatine?
I would love to make your apple flavored buck jam but here in Indiana any area is considered baited 10 days after removal of the bait so when I use buck grub or a corn flavored salt block I have to removed it at least two weeks before I hunt so it's not considered baited :(
In order to surpass the bait law, you put the bait one place, then hunt the routes to the bait. Find how they are getting to the bait and hunt off of it on their travel route. At least 75 yds for archery, 100 yds for gun and primitive. Learned this from an LDWF agent.
