How the hell does a band remain so consistently inspired and vital for such a long time? It's all in their creative process. Even when they get it wrong (a rare occurrence), they get it worng exactly right, if that makes any sense.
I've just taken delivery of the entire Drift project and I'd avoided listening to any of it before getting it completely, as I was listening through my thoughts were how do they manage to create so many tracks just in one year, and for them all just about to be different but relevant and new at the same time, whilst also being comfortably familiar and laced with some massive future classics. To do that after a career that's already spanned 25 years is amazing, after listening to the first five CD's in the set I couldn't say that there weren't any tracks that I didn't like.
Ha, I get what you mean, although I personally wouldn't use the word 'wrong'. I'd say that even with the small percentage of their tracks that I don't love, I still respect and admire their musicality. But yeah, for my money there is not group that has been so consistent over decades. I mean, I'm possibly biased, as I rate Underworld as easily... EASILY the greatest band of the modern era.
Underworld has never got it wrong, there are just some songs I don't like that much, compared to the majority of their archive, which I like an extremely high amount.
Dirty --> Dirty Epic REZ --> Cowgirl Second Hand --> Thing In A Book Surfboy --> Dark & Long (Spoon Deep) Born Slippy (NUXX) --> Deep Arch Tin There --> Pearls Girl (Tin There) Rowla --> Cherry Pie Mo Move --> Ansum --> Little Speaker and now Lenny Penne - S T A R love that we've been treated to so many flip sides of the same coins through the years, keep it up boys!
So good, great observations, Lenny Penne was always a weird classic for me, even though it's quite unconventional, but man. I assume you've heard since you're well versed, but their live rendition of it into the track Bamboo is also fantastic.
I just randomly heard Lenny Penne for the first time, and I thought, 'Wow, this sounds like S T A R in some ways', and then I remembered reading this comment ages ago and making a mental note to listen to Lenny Penne. Clearly that mental note wasn't enough of a reminder :P

@@djhillfinger Awesome mate, great idea! You won't be disappointed if last night is anything to go off; was epic.. and Underworld fans really are the nicest bunch of people I've met at a gig :-)
very interesting but the outro needs to be longer and work up into a trance. I feel like that would be the natural progression for Underworld, though perhaps they deliberately ended it sooner cuz they were sick of being typecast into doing the long groove thing and wanted to deliver a shorter song for once. This reminds me of something off Second Toughest or Beacoup Fish.

There’s a sample from Bells & Circles at 0:32 and the two note chord movement from Dune comes back as well! Both are used well in this one. What an interesting piece!
Heard this song today while exploring seattle, instantly fell in love with it 💚 I really hope they dont mind if I throw a few snippets into the footage I took there.
heard this live today in Amsterdam, it went so insanely hard
I heard it in Berlin, it was the song of the night, stunningly good and so hard.
Chord change at 2.07 does it for me. Unmistakably Underworld.
Helen Keller is a S T A R... and those floating synths. This is why I love these guys!!!
Man , it made me drift away
Id say it was the swirling synths just after which is trademark Underworld
