From the Amazon page you've provided: "Installation Tips:Please soak the Pedal covers in hot water for a while to make the rubber softer, it will help you install easily."
Jesse, please clean your car 🙃
Maybe heating the rubber (hair dryer/heat gun/boiling water) would have helped. Obviously be careful not to overheat to the point of damaging the rubber.
griffwand YUP nothing else needed
Be more concerned about the glue holding the rubber to the metal with heating it
Thanks. One cool new trick I learned from watching you struggle, is to first place a cellphone with its camera facing you, so you can see what is happening.
Hey Guy's!! I always use dish soap on things like this. It works really well on hoses etc. It makes it really slick, and dries up quick too.
Fit the accelerator pedal he started at the bottom and slide it straight up! No tools needed. You probably know this by now but you made it way harder than it should be! 😂 I did my pedals. Took less than 5 minutes. Great product!
Would hot very soapy water have helped?
J Williams! Man what a comment I got to tell you the first one I thought my fingers were going to fall off I followed your advice I put it in warm water and soap and water and literally within 10 seconds I put the second one on great recommendation
Jesse vacuum your car. The world just saw that!
I got the same for my Model 3. Didn't have near the problem you did and I will explain why I believe that is. First off, I put mine on in the summer months and followed the tip of putting them in a ziplock in hot water before starting to make the rubber a slight bit more pliable. Using a heat gun would make touching them with your hands a bit awkward for fear of burning yourself on the metal if they get too hot so I went with the hot water suggestion which seemed to help. The brake went right on just like it did for you. The accelerator was a bit tighter but I spread the top wide enough to start it at the bottom and slide it up slowly making sure the sides were staying in as I went and that the bottom slid into place when reaching the top. That only left making sure the 2 top corners needed to go over the pedal and I was able to do it with just my fingers. They not only look great but since I have numbness in my feet from my diabetes, it is so much easier to see the pedals and exactly where my feet are with these on. Before, seeing the black on a black background was difficult for me, especially at night.
Totally thought they would be those cheap 'clamp on' style pedals. Color me impressed.
I laughed soo hard when I watched this - not at your pain, but at mine! I feel you, Jesse! I went through the exact same scenario as you - bought pedals on amazon, because, you know, cheaper. My experience was 95% the same as yours: the screwdrivers - yep, I tried the long one before I found a shorter one; the brake pedal removal was easy, and putting the new one on was not bad, but not easy. Then came the accelerator! My fingers hurt for two days afterward. The instructions came with 2 bits of advice. #1 was use gloves and after my fingers hurting, I can see why, but honestly, I don't know how gloves would have helped. They would have been in the way and not able to get a good finger/fingernail under the rubber. #2 was, and here is what I did a little different, soak the pedals in hot water. This does two things, make it easier to slide them on (but only slightly), and secondly the heat makes the rubber more malleable. But again helped, but only slightly and after spending an hour on the pedals, well there was no heat left...
Use a cord placed in the toff start the lip hold it close and pull the cord . like replacing a peace of glass in a window canal.
Brilliant! Wish I had thought of this before the struggle. lol
If you soak the pedals in hot water for 10 minutes, and use a little soapy water on the back side, they go on much easier. A wide pry tool helps. For $10, they are decently made and really dress up the look of the cabin.
Those pedals are a PITA to put on. If possible try to warm up the rubber backing so they are easier to work with.
I was a pair to put my SS panel on my Model 3. The Brake was easy but the speed panel I had to slide it from top to bottom. Another trick I read is use hot water to get the rubber soft and easy to install. The slide trick worked for me. Just had pry a little as the bottom lip.
I have the same pedal covers. If you had put them in warm water for a few minutes prior, it would have made the rubber softer and more flexible. I actually struggled with the brake pedals more than the accelerator pedals.
For the accelerator, just start from the bottom and insert the pedal into the rubber lips. Then just slide it to the top. Use the screw driver to pull out the rubber from underneath.
Thank you! The tip to start from the bottom and slide it up made it trivial!!
Thanks for the review! I picked up the same pedals. If you work around the house, you may have spares lying around of door strike plates. I used two of those instead of screwdrivers to shoehorn the accelerator pedal on. They're a good width, length, and strength for the job.
I did mine a few months ago. Best thing to do is boil water, take the pedals and put them on a plastic bag, then place the bag in the super hot water.
You guys should have watched some RUclips videos before attempting it 😆😆😆
And clean the car at least when making videos, disgusting to watch!
Its a footwell its not like people are eating off of it lol
There's always the windshield rope method. Tuck some twine around the luo of the pedal and put the cover pedal on. When you pull on the twine, it opens up the rubber lip.
So... why didn't you just slide and push the accelerator pedal cover up into the pedal so you would just need to worry about the top rubber flaps instead of trying to install the cover sideways with the most surface area to fix???
Great video guys! Technically, those are not performance pedals for Model 3, they are aftermarket (still good though, I had them on my red RWD Model 3).
The stock performance pedals look different, not as many black vertical lines and all the lines on the accelerator pedal are even from top to bottom. Also, they are bushed metal, not chrome. I’ve got a pic but can’t post it. 👎 😬
Jesse, you should have asked Rich Rebuilds to bring over some of his kitchen knifes. That would of worked way better.
You can buy these for about $12 from aliexpress or banggood if you don't mind waiting several weeks for shipping from China. The accelerator took a good bit of effort for me too, but I managed to do it without any tools.
Yup just got mine from amazon, love the upgrade .. thank you for the video, it was a bit of pain to install
What about a ruler? Do you think that would be easier?
Hahaha... I got the same Product and boy was that a pain in my butt. I thought you were going to put these on with ease. Glad to know it wasn’t just me getting frustrated
Put it in the sides’gap at the bottom pushing it upwards, then the upper side should be easy to place with the help of a flat screwdriver.
For the accelerator pedal you slide it in from the bottom up. No tools needed )
if before of doing that, you get a hot air gun or hairdryer and heat the rubber , usually is better to work with , it makes the rubber more flexible while its hot ...
looks like you should also get the dead pedal, side note ( clean your car, get all weather floor mats) :-)
Jesse keep it dirty. Shows you drive the shizz out that Ev from the future. Love the vid and everything you guys put out. Can't wait for the live steam Model Y..
Hey guys! Sense you’re in town... if you wanna come to Warner Brothers I can show you around. I do sound over here. Probably can’t video anything.. but could be fun.
Had the same fight on my new Malibu. But the look cool when u get um in.
All that pedal pumping you did to test out the installation surely flooded your carburetor. Did the car start OK after all that?
What's a carburetor?
Carburetor flooded with electrons. However, they were neutralized with positive thoughts from the new look, and the car started normally.
Use a Light and hand mirror so you can see behind the pedals
If only he knew the acceleration pedal actually does slide up.😆
Super easy when I put mine on.
Jesse, please vacuum and clean the center console. Otherwise, thanks for the video.
Now get better floor mats. :)
My back and fingers hurt just watching. Does look great though!
They really ought to sell them with the correct instructions on how they are supposed to go on. My 'guess' is that if Jesse had used a tiny bit of WD40 at the opening of the rubber of the accelerator pedal, he could have perhaps slid the cover on. Heating the pedal cover in a cup of hot water [and using gloves] may have also produced a good result, when sliding it on.
But I am aware of how these things don't want to play ball. I've fitted replacement covers myself. The synthetic rubber is usually very stiff and durable.
A dead peddle cover would be nice!
I hope you don’t struggle with all weather floor mats for a future upgrade.
yeah Pedals
The accelerator cover looks like it slips on the from the bottom.
the accelerator pad will slide on once you start it.
You forgot to use your kitchen knife
Probably should have mentioned all the companies that make these and what the differences are. Unless this was not about educating viewers and about getting your amazon promo link referrals.
Did you Read the instructions ??
At least clean the pedals before you put the covers on.
You need to do this in warm weather or a warm garage.
A plastic putty knife instead of screwdrivers might work?
Best to soak it in hot water to make it more malleable prior to putting it on.
you must heat it up..... if not you will not get them on and your fingers will be destroyed
2 ideas. 1 trim tools (plastic) 2 soap
Isn't plastic pedals more green friendly than steel polluting metals... LOL
easier with a plastic card like a old credit card or similar... blink.. blink!
oh ma back
Looks like it slides on from the bottom
Slide on
Dude!! Clean your car! Or get winter rubber mats. Its an easy clean then. Im from germany so we are alittle anal about a clean car, aspecially when its such a nice one.
Slide from bottom up!!
No tools needed just slide the open end from the bottom of pedal up!
Another great video.
You should have put in hot water and then try.
Jessie is...a bit fluffy?
