    I've been doing irrigation for over 30 years. I've had two tools that have served me well. A wire locator/tracker, and a $5 multi meter from Harbor Freight. The multi meter with resistance(ohms) does everything necessary to replace these fancy tools. Sorry guys, I had to say it.

      @@doug2993 yes harbor freight multimeter. And exactly the same situation in the video. I'm looking for 1 wire out of 12 cut wires.

    • @doug2993
      @doug2993 2 года назад

      @@Jesse-gv9tf you get a specific reading on the ohmmeter when there is a connection to a good solenoid. When there is a cut wire or sometimes(not usually a bad solenoid) there won’t be any change on the meter, it’s showing that there is no connection.
      Finding cut wires can be a laborious task. Is this a house? Usually the valves are all together and very close to the house, usually the garage, where the timer tends to be installed, then the valves just outside the house near the timer. What’s your situation?

    Im an excavator who just bought an old work truck and I found this cool tool under the seat. Can i use it to locate water main tracer tape? Or how deep does it go? I assume i could connect the common wire to a ground stake/screwdriver? Looks similar to what my private locators use... may save me thoudands on a typical job if it can find lines burried below frostline if they have tracer tape or wire.

      The Station Master Pro won't help you trace wires, just identify a specific wire as shown in the video. A wire/valve locator like this one may do the trick though.

    Good video...that station master is a helpful tool. However I find in golf course systems there must be a voltage drop due to long distances but I'm not sure. It will read good circuit but nothing comes on. Yet when I hook thaf same wire back up to the satellite and turn it on it will pop up. Any ideas guys?

      Power does drop over distance. This varies by wire gauge. Or if you have a lightning protected solenoid with high resistance.

      john Kosheluk a line locater. You can trace the station wire from the controller to the end of the station wire (hopefully your buried valve box)

      The features between the two are similar. The main difference is the price. The Armada model is a little less expensive. You can see more using the links below.

    First I Saw From Progressive. Tempo, Whatever they Brand as, Personally I Think the 620 is the Best, Slide the Switch From Off, Tone, Normally Open, Normally Open with Latch, Normally Closed, Normally Close with Latch. Momentary Connection of Leads Will Sound and Light as long as they are touching. Normally Open With Latch. A Momentary Connection Will Continue to Beep Til Reset Button is Pressed, Normally Closed Work Simullarily.
    A Note, When Toning Like You were Doing, Sometimes The Signal will Bleed onto Several Wires. When You Find a Pair you believe it to Be, short those 2 together, if it is correct Pair, tone will be gone, if you touch and still here tone, you are not on the Right Pair.
    Can't Live Without Mine, I Troubleshoot Most Everything.
    Identifying Coax, Phone, Network Wires. For Cable TV, a New House, Start with putting Signal at Cable input from Cable Company, or Satellite Dish. Then go inside, Find that Cable/Wire, That is Input, All Others Are Output. Or if only using a select Few, Go to master bedroom and Connect Toner to Coax AND Network Wires,(Blue Pair?, Any Pair, go to where all homerun to, And Locate both at Once, Repeat as Necessary. Cars and Boats You can Follow to where the Break is, or Where it is Running to. Testing Fuses.
    Great on Photo Beams, For Gate Operators, Place on Receiver contact, then move Reflector up and down, left and right to align to Center.
    Can Place on Wires on an alarm Panel, open and close door(magnetic contact) to hear if it is working. If testing a Pair of wires and to far to Hear, Then the Latching works well to identify, Can't Work without Mine, Is Others With Using Voltmeter and Continuity Tester, The Time to Troubleshoot is Criminally Longer, Customer Pays a Big Price for the Extended Time to Solve, And Customer doesn't know any Better, Just Thought It Must have been a Really Bad Problem, I Feel Bad For Them.
    Is a MUST have. A Quick look at Your Sprinkler Tester Adds a Voltage Tester. But Only 24 Volts, Better to use a Multimeter as You can Check for 120/240 as Well. I'll Read Up on this Sprinkler Tester, But Don't Feel it Could be Better.
    If Troubleshoot and don't Have the 620, along with the 200 Inductive Amp, You are Playing, not Working.
    Randy, Strategic Electric & Security. Good Luck.

    My wire toner is picking up on the common wire going to all the valves, and not the individual valve wire. What could cause this?

    • @ewingoutdoorsupply
      @ewingoutdoorsupply  2 года назад

      It's difficult to say without seeing it but it sounds like you may have connected the toner to the common wire instead of the valve wire.

    • @ewingoutdoorsupply
      @ewingoutdoorsupply  4 года назад

      Hello Mario, if the station wire is connected to the controller already, you should be able to run that zone to determine what valve it is operating. In this video they are attempting to identify wires that are not currently connected to the controller or labeled with the zone. Here's a link to the instructions for the Station Master 24B from Greenlee if you need further details.

      No , you always make sure it’s not live or hooked up to the system to prevent false readings or no readings.

    What would be nice is the one that who is running the wire to label them it's very simple quite effective a piece of tape wrapped around the end of it and Mark it with numbers letters it don't matter I hate when I run into this stuff because some lazy ass could not label something when they pulled it moved it reattached it done whatever mess they decided to make mark it very simple

    • @ewingoutdoorsupply

      +ruben lopez - Thanks for the Question! The manufacturer does not list a distance limit on their spec sheet. However, in regards to Irrigation valves/wiring, distance should not be a factor when using this device.
