I run a bolt gun because in most cases, I can run a more “spicy” round from a bolt vs an AR. I openly admit that I'm addicted to the speed. I also have to walk a lot to spots, and my bolt guns generally weigh less than AR’s.
Bolt actions are a more civilized weapon. No gas in the face suppressed, quieter on the shooter's ear suppressed, brass retention is better, brass in the magazine doesn't get coated in crap, and manual action gives more control and stealth. That's my discoveries so far
I have run both.... I'm out west in utah. I always open the safe and grab the bolt gun. I am 40 years old and was raised on a bolt gun. In my opinion, AR platforms can be extremely accurate. It's proven. But I think it comes to comfort and muscle memory. If raised on ARs, you might prefer them and vice versa..... just my 2 cents. But it does not determine a good varmint hunter😅 Dustin White
You don’t build an AR to save money, you build it to get exactly what you want. Even on a upper end custom built, your gonna have to change something. Building your own you’ll order a part and when it comes you won’t like it. Just life, in the fast lane. I shoot an AR for my varmint rig spare me the 1st shot nonsense. I’m out to kill what comes in, I don’t care if it’s 1st or last shot. I need um dead. Currently 6 arc with Iray thermal, but just got in my 22arc barrel. Not sure which will be my night rig just yet.
Yeah ur right. What I have figured out with the AR industry is that alot of these companies will build these rifles with parts from different companies and put they're name on it then upcharge another 1000 to 2000 dollars just to slap it together. When u pick out every part urself u get what you want for the most part and ur gonna pay a lot less money even getting it put together by someone else. Save even more if u do it urself. Just build it urself. U will save thousands. We are in a day and age of marketing schemes and people are too stupid to see beyond the name of something. They just jump on the bandwagon cuz some dipshit on RUclips said it was cool
@@weldmonger1560 yep that about sums it up. I put mine together and was way happier then I figured I’d be. That said I spent more then I’d set out to, changed a few things here n there. Spent some extra money and have parts I may or may never use. On that note my next build will be, will be a 1 time rounder.
I have run an AR plateform for 14 years. I'm not the best Varmint hunter but when I call in 3 or 4 dogs at once I don't want to leave any educated ones in the field
When I build or buy an ar15, I have a hard time spending big money and building something nice because they can be had so cheap. Bolt guns in leaning higher quality better rifles… in that case I’ll take the bolt gun obviously. BUT I believe it’s time to build a really nice ar15 and compare.
Bolt action day time. AR10 at night. Bolt at daytime because it just feels right lol Night time AR10 because more chances for double and triples in my experience.
Personally I run a 22-250 tikka t3 with a threaded barrel. I think you hit the nail on the head when you said the barrier to entry is lower. I’ve messed with some sub $1000 AR’s and didn’t like that I would have to put a bunch of extra money into. And I was getting into predator hunting during college so money wasn’t the most available thing. So the tikka was a buy once and get a rifle everyone seems to agree is good. Then I recently got it threaded and suppressed it.
Idk why everyone forgets about the 22 nosler AR15. Lightweight set up and is super fast out of a 20" barrel. Im getting 3500 out of a 20" carbon fiber barrel and i have never had a runner or even a flinch out of prolly 50 coyote shot. Highly impressed with the 22 nosler. They did something magical with that round. Ill admit that it is a little finicky but just get an adjustable gas block and yr good to go
Great video! Up here in AK you don’t see many ARs for hunting. Don’t know if it’s because it’s boomer land of the north or because ARs have issues in the cold. I shoot both but love the AR because it’s more practical and I built it
6 arc 18 in AR factory 103's. Where I hunt. 250 and in is most of my shots. And most are within 150 or less. And the AR platform for the simple fact if I f@%& up the first shot for some reason. I have options. I have one tract that I can get 600. But I haven't had the chance to group that gun at that distance.
I know you hate on AR-10s but I have been running one in .243 for over 10 years and killed a ton of predators with it. 55-75grain v max has been deadly. I have also ran bolt actions rifles my whole life and can’t say I would outperform myself with one vs the AR-10. Definitely when it comes to running shots. I’m shooting suppressed of course with an adjustable gas block no jams Ever and I keep it clean. Choosing the 243 cal in the AR-10 was the best decision I have made for all around varmint/hog gun. You always talk about the 308 give the 243 some love lol
Persistence, dealing with the suck, having good properties, and a good gun (ar or bolt gun), in a good chambering, that you're experienced with, is what makes you a good varmint hunter. Also, knowing, using, and training with your gear, to the point it becomes instinct makes a world of difference. It took me over a year of practice and using before I became proficient with what I use, to become decent. I'm still looking at new technology, and going to practice and use before I claim to even be good, not at a Wade level. Talk what you will, to get to his level, takes at least a decade to get to his point. I'm only 4 years in and still learning. There's so many aspects. From calling to shooting. It's not just the gun, it's the experience you have to get, that takes time.
18in Odin works 3 gun profile ar15 with a mk5 3.6-18x44 with an off set red dot. Griffin armament suppressor, and those magpul bipods we all know and love. Why? It's relatively light weight, shoots well, and has the velocity range I want with 75 grain hornady OTMs I load. Also I can only afford 1 rifle 😅, and it's the one I like shooting the most.
I shoot a 243 bolt rifle. Tried a AR 224 valk. Loved the caliber but rifle was heavy and I thought it was noisy but it shot as good of groups as any . nothing against someone using an AR I'm just more comfortable and confident with my bolt
I think if I was aiming for supreme accuracy from a gas gun, I'd probably going proof, some of the more precision driven centurion line, or have a bartlein spun up from compass lake. Also seen (not personally experienced) good stuff from the new SOLGW barrels.
Persistence. That's the answer. Wade, when you can kill a dog with your left hand and a spork at 7:15AM one hour late for work and in the middle of a four day fast, come chit-chat at my angle. Until then, I'll answer any other questions you have, NO 12 min question required.
I think these days mechanically a bolt gun and AR are capable of being equally accurate. I agree with you, that a cheap bolt gun is capable of better accuracy than some of the of cheaper ar's. I think less experience shooters are able to extract more accuracy from a bolt gun than an AR. They're damn sure more much more neck n neck than 15-20 years ago.
In the middle of a build right as we speak. Like all budget, mil spec, 5.56 sh*t in sh*t out. Zero high fives at hunt camp for this poverty pony. If fkn shoots it shoots. We will see.
I think SOLGW had a good model going pre 2020, pick out the most "swappable" items, your cerakote and all that. Demand drove it away. Sorry I'm extra comment-y today, been cooped up around abunch of boomers and need to talk/listen shop 😂
Use my AR. New to the AR world but I am looking forward to hunting a lot of game with my AR. Just not interested in dressing up like GI Joe and playing army with my friends. Let me add. If your prior military I mean no disrespect. It’s those that aren’t and just wanna be.
My gas guns are more accurate than my bolt guns. My Weatherby Mark V .243 gets close with a hand load. I hate to hunt varmints with a bolt gun and I am definitely "Boomer" at 69 years old.
One day can yall do a video on mrad vs Moa scopes

auto - 90% of my shots are moving so like the quick follow up

We need a gear overview of Wade's gear when he goes out.
Chest rig?
Caller?
Tripod?
Etc, etc.
Bolt action day time.
AR10 at night.
Bolt at daytime because it just feels right lol
Night time AR10 because more chances for double and triples in my experience.
Also AR10 because 6mm creed is the best round in the world 😂
Never bought a compleat AR style gun . I run the same lower and buy compleat uppers
D-teck and Specially dynamics uppers are tac drivers every time
Sks baby! Thermal running a home made oil filter solvent trap 7.62x39 hornady vmax ! AKA the ultimate predator setup! 🎉🎉
Your not serious are you? 😂 I mean if it works for ya then awesome bud. And I will say that u aren't spending a lot on ammo lol

😂😂 I'm the same way. I can't hit shit on the first shit but always seem to get them every single time on the run lol

Bolt gun, it’s more suppressor friendly, and lighter.
What I run? I run a 14min mile on a good day, ( half mile x 2) because I can't do it all non stop.

You should be able to build a good ar at or under 8lbs very easily.
Ar-10 243 and ar-15 22 nosler both guns 1/4” groups
Where are my shotgun predator hunters out there?!
I think if I was aiming for supreme accuracy from a gas gun, I'd probably going proof, some of the more precision driven centurion line, or have a bartlein spun up from compass lake. Also seen (not personally experienced) good stuff from the new SOLGW barrels.
22 creed bolt gun

Howa 6arc bolt

A .308 bolt gun
lol you ain’t lying I literally just throw my rifle in the bed of the pickup e call gets tossed in the bed also 😂
