The ONLY Real Dope Snow / Montec Review

- I was looking for reviews all over the internet for Dope Snow and Montec. The only problem was that every one of them seemed fake, and there was a lot of information missing. The only two reviews that I could find on ALL of RUclips was one person trying on the clothes and talking about how cool the gear looked, not an actual waterproof test.
So, I ordered the stuff and reviewed it myself. If you have read this far, spoiler, the Montec jacket is actually very high quality and completely waterproof. If you have any questions, leave a comment and I will answer them.

I’m 5’9 & 155lb athletic build. I purchased the Montec Doom Ski jacket size medium & Montec Fawk ski pants size small. The jacket is a little big and long, but I like that it covers my butt for extra layers when binding my snowboard and less likely to get snow underneath the outer shell if I crash. I’m sure a size small jacket would of worked fine.
I used this last year for 3 days In Breckinridge, CO and it did great! I stayed warm and dry. I look forward to using this gear in 2023 and future snowboard trips rocking this outfit. I personally recommend their gear. Not a cheap set up if you ask me.
I have their bib and it's extremely comfortable, durable and stays bone dry. Going to get a jacket when their new releases come out in the summer.

Yup just what I was looking for. I just got the iconic snow pants and yeti hoodie. Haven't had them on the mountain yet but they seem really well put together. The one thing ive noticed is the sizes run long. So the fit is good over all but a little longer than I usually go
I LOVE my dope snow ski coat and pants. The most impressed I've been with so far was when me and my friends had the most intense snowball fight of my life...literally barried in and crawling in the snow for hours at like 28° lol. I could see the water literally running off of my gear and I was SO warm the entire time. Didn't even really need to hang up my gear to dry after. I recommend!

I bought the Ace Mitt. I live in the B.C. and was snowing hard the first day I took them out. My hands were soaked after under 2 hours of riding. They gave me credit right away so customer service is really good but I’m sticking with gore tex that I have not had issue with for the past 15 years.
Dang that sucks. I have never tried their gloves. However, I have always had an issue with gloves. My gore-tex gloves are usually soaked after about 2-3 hours

I bought the same jacket in the same color way except it’s insulated. I’d agree that the quality definitely stands true. Probably one of the best jackets I’ve owned for the price. They don’t skimp on the features either. Montec is becoming extremely popular on the mountains these days with more and more people wearing their gear.

the fleece fits just a tiny bit bigger but its hard to tell cause snow jackets are always a little bigger

Haven’t tried their gloves, but I would, personally, just get a set of Dakine gloves. You can get pretty sick, good gloves from Dakine for like $40-$60

Do you think the sizing is similar to other ski/snowboarding jackets? I would get medium in ski gear but dope and montec recommended I get a small. Not sure what I should get!
Being 6’4’’, 230 lbs I was a little worried that their coat (ordered Dope YETI in XL) was going to be to short since I’m no european model. Turns out the lenght of sleeves/coat is really nice. It’s much like my Burton AK Cyclic size L for reference. The only downside of this quite unique technical hoodie is getting it on since it has no zippers (just like a real street wear hoodie I guess). Overall very happy with the purchase, might have gone with a XXL if I was going to layer a fleece underneath on colder days…

The dope balaclava can separate into a neck gaiter and an open hood. Super soft too
I have it and so far mainly use the neck part and keep the hood in my pocket, it’s seriously warm. Definitely needs to be below 0C temperatures for it to not get uncomfortably hot. But yeh it’s super soft!!
I purchased the artic camo Montec Doom bib and jacket set. I used them now for two years in up to 7 degrees and I can't say enough good things about my set! warm and dry!!! And durable I had a couple of hard falls on the knees and they have held up great! it did so well I decided to trust them for the under layers. I skied in 7 degrees with just the Montec Doom set and the under layers all day and even on the lift rides I was warm and dry all day. Even when we skied in up to 32 degrees I simply vented the armpits and never felt uncomfortable at all. I was so impressed that I bought the Montec Delta Fleece hoodie and had to take a chance on the pants from Dope, and I got a perfect match for top and bottom and it worked as a fantastic outfit to go get coffee or lounging this Fleece set is comfortable and warm and if they get wet they dry quickly.

@@snackdawg8417 they sure are ! Very durable, I also purchased the thermal set that goes with them and I am good to go from 7 degrees to 30 degrees but I am an older guy and I am just skiing I’m not in x games mode lol

I’m 5’ 8” 145 lb. I usually wear my tops a little longer so I went with a medium, I could make a small work fine but I don’t prefer it.

I've been looking at the balaclava but there isn't much info on the fit. Any ideas if it would fit over a helmet and still be able to use the face covering?
The Hood fits over a helmet and the neck gaiter portion separates if you’d rather have a thinner option around your face/neck

I like the design of the montec ski goggles more than the oakley ones, but are the oakley goggles better quality than the montec ones? Or otherwise i should ask are the montec ones good quality?
Never tried their goggles. I recommend Blender goggles

5' 8" and 145 lb. It fits me very well, but would definitely fit someone a little bigger than me.
Is Montec more suited towards skiing and dope snow more towards snowboarding?
there is no real difference besides where they ship from.
I have 3 Montec snow suits just came back from jay peak in Vermont -20 degrees montec is official tommy from Long Island N.y.

I have the Doom.. 2 years ago… love it.. i bought the Dune this year.. Dune is ok… Doom is much better… not sure if Montec is still selling the Doom or not.
I keep reading the doom is awkward when unzipped all the way down as one side hangs. How is your experience with the Doom? Any details would be appreciated.

Small if you're 5' 6". It is a little long on me and I am 2" taller than you. But a medium is a safe bet as well

you're gonna want a medium. maybe even a small. A medium is a little long on me, 5'8" 150lb muscular build.

It is where I go snowboarding. If its like 20-40 degrees you can literally just wear a t shirt underneath

It is somewhere between normal and big. I am pretty small so medium is usually a little longer on me, but still works great

How cold is it where you snowboard? I snowboard in about 20-30 degree weather and the shell is warm enough with layering. Did you get the insulated?

I wanted the insulated one originally but I am glad I went with the shell. It’s plenty thick and you can always layer underneath

I honestly don't know. I wear a medium and haven't had any experience with the L or XL. Their sizing chart is accurate though.

The size guide on their site worked well for me. I’m 182cm 98kg (rugby player build) size guide recommended XL. I went for the Dune anorak shell and Moss bib and they fit perfectly.

Do you put on that jacket as if it's a pull-over sweater? I don't see a full zipper... If that's the case, is that annoying to put on/take off?
Yeah, I do, but there is actually a full zipper on the side. I usually have it partially unzipped when I put it on.

Water on the outside soaking into the outer layer is all about the DWR coating so it could be denim and be washed in DWR and repel. Not really a good test.
Its all about the inside test as the waterproof membrane is behind the outside layer.

@@Wildtimes i'm 5'7, 150, and i felt like the the jacket in small is way too tight at the bottom. and the pants around the knees are just slightly too tight. but i do like that the pants aren't super super baggy like some other brands.
So just FYI the water beading on the surface is just the DWR (durable water proof) coating found on most water proof or water resistant type clothing gear.
There are loads of synthetic fabric that are waterproof but the difference is how breathable it is. Sure, even without the DWR the jacket will keep water out but you'll be sweating a lot if you're hot inside the jacket. So basically it's no different than wearing a trashbag. The cheaper the waterproof gear is the less air permeable it is.
Those Burton pants he showed in the video are more expensive because it uses Gore-tex which has the leading air permeable material on the market. The closest competitor is E-vent which is not so well known.

I have a dope jacket that's 10 years old.
I have an insulated montec fawk from 2020. Water didn't really bead and roll off from the beginning. I don't know about the breathability. I get hot pretty fast and if you sweat, it will stay in the insulation and start smelling. I run hot fast in general so it might just be me. I've washed and waterproofed it with Nikwax. The water rolls off now. After a week of riding water still rolls off. Other than some damage from my snowboard chafing against it when carrying it, there's no damage or stitching coming loose. Washed it 4 times in total. I just ride resort and indoor pistes but made plenty of tumbles and slides. Overall I'm happy with them. It has everything I need.
I replaced my dope adept pants with a volcom goretex bib though. The material keeps soaking water.
It's a very nice jacket, but it's a little too expensive considering that these jackets sell on aliexpress for $ 30

Am I the only one having really bad experiences with a Dope Set?? First time I wore them they got extremely wet... 🙄 I don't think Montec is the same as Dope then?
Had great experiences with Dope. Montec and Dope are essentially the same. Main difference is that Montec started out as a European brand and Dope as a US and rest of the world brand. Same quality and material from what I’ve seen.
I have tried Dope Snow products. Horrifically bad product and worse customer service.
You might as well light your money on fire if you give this company your business.
