Truly EXCELLENT review. You hit every single question I had with zero extraneous blabber. Thank you! Watching review videos can be an absolute chore. Since I’m tasked with replacing all my gear, I’ve been doing this for a week solid, dreading each review and fast forwarding through so much unnecessary content. You made it so easy. Big … (no) HUGE fan. Can’t thank you enough.
TL;DR - I don’t think Montec is necessarily a high end brand but they provide above average products for a below average price. I do recommend them for any average resort skier like myself. I think it’s hard to beat the value you get for the price of the gear. If you’re a hardcore backcountry skier or a professional athlete, I don’t think this is necessarily the gear for you.
Montec gear is the best valued, best fitting and stylish ski gear available in my personal opinion and then there is the value, where nothing compares. I'm a gear snob, I have so many different coats and get multiple new coats every season. If I compare my $250 Montec jacket to my $800 North Face Brigandine jacket, I'd pick the Montec jacket all day long, facts. Montec is doing an incredible job. We all need to support companies like Montec as much as we can, fantastic gear at incredible value, we need more companies like this.
My only scare is seeing them go up in price eventually 😂 I love the jacket I have from them and just ordered a bunch of other gear, I’m glad to hear they’re quality over time.
Lucas! 😍 Wow, it's that time of the year again where you're gonna be dishing out amazing winter content! 🏂🏔 Hope life is treating you well! 🙏💙 Keep up the amazing content like always! ☺💛✨
I own both pants and bibs. The new bibs have a double zipper so no longer do you need to fish under your jacket for the zipper. I run the doom jacket in addition and have zero issues. Skiing in Montana it’s seen rime ice, pow, wet snow. Never had an issue with being warm and dry. Great affordable gear in my view.
Idk about Montec in particular but I just bought my first pair of bibs and absolutely love them. So much better than pants that end at the waist. You don’t notice them at all and the mobility at the waist is superior. Bonus points as well for mine having a zipper for my willy.
AND they kinda act like a pow skirt. You wont feel snow until if reaches your armpits, and if snow reaches your armpits, I'm pretty sure you have bigger things to worry about.
Long time listener, first time caller......appreciate your review! I am a fan of Flylow gear for the price performance, check it out next time you are refreshing your kit. Hope to see you at Palisades!
Finally someone that actually test the gear out in real life makes more sense!! it’s not a fashion show. We actually need gear that’s going to perform but I mean it helps if it’s pretty too! 😂
I loved your emphasis on the price-per-performance factor. As a complete noob looking to get into ski sports, I think this set would be an excellent starting point for me. Definitely gonna check out the Doom style. I also noticed there are two variants in each style: Ski vs Snowboard. Any idea what the difference is? The photos look exactly the same.
Within the brand it should be the same but Montec has like a sister brand called Dope and I could be completely off but I think Montec is more ski styled and Dope is more snowboard style, and I’m only drawing this conclusion because of the categories and the bibs at Dope don’t have the scuff thing for skis
I have the 2022 Fawk jacket. I love the fit and the pockets/features. When zipped up, the neck is roomy enough to pull up and is large to comfortably cover my face. My only complaint is that this the jacket is a bit heavy and the material feels a bit rubbery. Great gear though. It works for me as I don’t need to spend $700 on a jacket.
Very good review! Thank you for sharing the ideas about the brand. I found out you have the similar height and weight with me that I am 5'9 182lbs. I know you have size Medium and just wondering if you have any suggestion about the sizing? I want to choose 1 size up to Large because I am going to wear hip protector and body armor inside my snow suits since I am a snowboarder and need room to move and so on. Thanks a lot!
Is the Dune worth it as a normal winter coat, or would you only recommend it as a snowboarding outershell? If used as a normal winter coat, is it too bulky?
I own the Doom set up. It's way too bulky to wear as a just a winter jacket. You'll fit in just fine if you wear it around a resort town. But for everyday use you'll look like a teenager in over sized clothing. Just my thoughts. I'm 42 and would never wear something this bulky around town. Each to their own!
I've been riding the montec gear for 2 seasons now. 2021 Doom jacket with one of their bibs (not the one that matches the jacket because I don't like the full matching suit look personally) but they have been great in all types of mountain conditions and kept me dry every time.
As someone who has purchased high-priced ski jackets and can make comparisons, I've noticed that, in terms of breathability and waterproofing, I haven't seen any noticeable difference with, for example, the Arc'teryx Rush jacket. Both excel in these categories. However, I find Montec jackets to be much more practical. They come with numerous pockets to store whatever you need and even better vent zippers. Considering that the prices of top brands are almost three times higher, I honestly don't see any reason for someone to opt for these brands. In my humble opinion, the only reason I can think of is if someone doesn't like the design of the company.
Dude I been low key following your vids since season 2. Went through everything including the van conversation. Really good effort and somehow your vids have this feeling that no other vlogs have. Love the heli skiing vid the best. Keep up my man, hope we can ski together one day. Haha

Does anyone know how they fit? Heavily considering buying a jacket rn but I like a larger looser fit but I don’t want to get something too big, I’m 5’9 190 with an athletic build. I’m thinking large but I’m not sure if XL would be better. Does anyone know what build and size Lucas wears?

@@LucasCatania17 They're insulated but I do run cold so I generally have to layer up pretty good anyway. They're probably perfect for most people for most days. It was just those super cold mornings where I was wanting more.
With the doom jacket, did you actually use the zipper to get the jacket off? Of would you end up pulling it out over your head just like the dune jacket.
@@LucasCatania17 ahh so the zipper isn’t really meant to be used to take of the jacket? Or is it just not convenient to use? Looking to buy a jacket but don’t really want one I have to pull over my head:)
Thanks for the honest review, I bought an Arcteryx shell. Made the mistake of buying a large instead of medium. But can't afford to buy another as the cost is way too high. The Montec Dooom is roughly half the price. The only downside is the doom insulated and the shell are the same price. Honestly the shell should be priced a little cheaper. Thanks Again
I almost did the same thing, I ended up with the medium even tho the powder skirt is too tight on me, but the the larges sleeves were ridiculous. Try selling it and getting your right size
@@jarettlouie6442 Because we should strive towards using our stuff for a long time. Not keep changing apparel all the time. It's bad for the environment.

Got the bibs, and while they are pretty wide at the waist, even when using the buttons on the side, I can't really get them as high up in the chest as you have in this video. Not sure what's wrong, went for the XL, but they seem more wide than long. (I'm 6'8)

@@zenin_finland it’s a nice jacket but it’s too tight fitting for the cold weather boarding in northern Alberta. Needed a bigger shell type jacket to lair up underneath.
I clean mine once a year in the gentle cycle. I also scrub the wrist and bottom of the pants. Then I spray with Nik Wax and throw them in the drier on low for five minutes. Then pack and ready for next year.
bibs are awesome and I like them more for skiing purposes, but I had to pic up a pair of just normal pants for the bathroom reason. It was so annoying undressing every time!
for the most part women design and make men's clothing. With men's apparel you have to think out side the designers box. In that you are not going to get anything that is stylish or other wise. All that energy goes in to women's apparel. What you have to do then is, figure on 2 sizes bigger with everything, use suspenders not belts over sized jackets and gloves to make a comfortable fit. All ski shops will cater to the female lines of clothing which means, go to a shop, try on what they have in stock adjust the size in your mind for your needs. Go home get on line and order the 2 times larger you'll need. Actually found descent sized stuff at Walmart and Dunham's and for way better price. I am ski instructor and am in the ski boots all day. The resort offers discounts for instructors . They NEVER have anything available. They always, like any resort, use some sort of marketing Ai to do the inventory of what will and will not sell. That's how they keep the cost of tax down for their inventory. Use the local shops as a test place, to try on, then go home and adjust the size and buy on line your correct size. Lets face it the ski industry is pricing it's sell out of Biz.
The bibs for the ladies is the same set up 😂 you definitely need to undo your whole set up.

@@LucasCatania17 They're insulated but I do run cold so I generally have to layer up pretty good anyway. They're probably perfect for most people for most days. It was just those super cold mornings where I was wanting more.
On the dune does the part covering your face fold out of the way for warmer days or is it always sitting on your chin
always on your chin
With the doom jacket, did you actually use the zipper to get the jacket off? Of would you end up pulling it out over your head just like the dune jacket.
I just pull it over my head like the other one!
@@LucasCatania17 ahh so the zipper isn’t really meant to be used to take of the jacket? Or is it just not convenient to use? Looking to buy a jacket but don’t really want one I have to pull over my head:)
First snow of the season for you guys in Utah is next week!
Hell yea I saw that!
however, you can get 2-3 beers in the kangaroo pocket which is a great bonus feature
ah yes didnt think about that!
Thanks Again
very true point! they should be different prices.
I almost did the same thing, I ended up with the medium even tho the powder skirt is too tight on me, but the the larges sleeves were ridiculous. Try selling it and getting your right size
Was your ski jacket insulated or non insulated version?
insulated!
Love their prices and love their styles. Very functional suits, will probably pick up a new set next year.
Really? You ski 300 days every year?
@@mattiaspettersson788 very affordable, why not have a few different looks
@@jarettlouie6442 Because we should strive towards using our stuff for a long time. Not keep changing apparel all the time. It's bad for the environment.
People dont understamd this company and say so much bad stuff for no reason. I love my pants and jacket. I think of them as Gym Shark for snowboarding. Cheaper but still good with amazing style
Got the bibs, and while they are pretty wide at the waist, even when using the buttons on the side, I can't really get them as high up in the chest as you have in this video. Not sure what's wrong, went for the XL, but they seem more wide than long. (I'm 6'8)
i want to ask about the size🙇♂️
How tall are you and what is your size?
i am about 5'9 - 5'10 and i have a size large in both the pants and jacket!
Have you ever looked int whatvest instead of backpack. It’s pretty cool
Yeah but it can’t fit my camera haha
Helpful review, thanks!
thanks!
Excellent review.
Subscribed.
Thanks Phil!
i was just wondering about the fit ? does it feel like a true fit or go up a size ? you are right though for the price and quality you can`t go wrong. i`m in Canada moving out west soon so my whole set up is changing lol thanks for the great info . cheers
I’m 6’3, 180lbs. I can say the medium fit me perfectly so yes, i’d say it fits true to size.
Yessss, thank you for this video. theres really no good in depth review of montecs on here.
appreciate that!
I had the montech Doom jacket. I gave it to my friend and bought a Burton AK she’ll instead. I liked the montech but personally I prefer the AK shell I got
nice man!
Why is that?
@@zenin_finland it’s a nice jacket but it’s too tight fitting for the cold weather boarding in northern Alberta. Needed a bigger shell type jacket to lair up underneath.
They’ve added a split zip now for the Fawk pants
Helly Hansen or Spyder gear!
How tall are you? I noticed you bought a large with the Jacket
about 5'9"!
How did you clean your suits and how often?
I didn’t clean my suits at all
I clean mine once a year in the gentle cycle. I also scrub the wrist and bottom of the pants. Then I spray with Nik Wax and throw them in the drier on low for five minutes. Then pack and ready for next year.
Although, I ski three days every week so my ski outfit is dirty by the end of the season.
few inches of string or paracord on the zip might save some struggle
It’s perfect for resort skiing.
Where can i find montec mono suit?
bibs are awesome and I like them more for skiing purposes, but I had to pic up a pair of just normal pants for the bathroom reason. It was so annoying undressing every time!
ahh yes man kind of frustrating there isn’t a better solution!
@@LucasCatania17agreed!! i would totally go back to a bib if there was
Hi,what’s size for you
Large
@@LucasCatania17 thx a lot
They must have changed that as my Fawk bibs have a zip at each end so can use as a fly etc......
So I’ve heard! I musta got an older model
for the most part women design and make men's clothing.
Anorak, the word for the style of both jackets is Anorak.
Sweet!
Fair ptice.Don't like that style, but they have a variety, tho choose from.
sure do!
Will score a set. Comprehensive review.
hell yea dude
Which of the jackets was your favorite?
my brother lost his phone because of the jacket pocket :( be aware and always check your zips.
Okay, found 👏
Thanks
