I’ve been following this series since before episode 10, seeing this now on its ultimate form is an emotional experience. The content itself awakens abstract feelings of longing, sadness, and other harder to place emotions tangled in introspection and reflection. The completion of this project Is like passing by a stretch of grass every day, watching a big building be raised. Once there was nothing, then there was something for such a long time, now it’s done. Crazy. Insane. Time passing by moment by moment
I've been watching Interface since I was twelve. I have pins, shirts, and even the frog plush of mischief in my room. Every new release changed how I saw art as a whole and your style allowed me to develop as an horror artist. You have absolutely inspired me in every way possible. Thank you for creating this amazing series.
I was getting chills from the portion Mr. Greetings speaks with Henryk. The cinematography and composition fit with the voice work so well and it makes this one of my most loved animated films ever. Beautiful work Umami. Interface is definately in my top favorite animated films ever.
You don’t know how grateful I am that you put this online. I own a copy that I’ve watched a few times already with different friend groups, and now I won’t have to wear it into oblivion doing repeat showings for all my goofball pals
Hope there's more big projects similar to this one or in this unique/odd realm that you've ever so meticulously created. The ambition it takes to make something of this caliber is truly impressive. The first time I watched this, it inspired me immensely to create right away. I'm a creative myself and use music as my primary means of expression and the score to this is magnificent. The soundtrack paired with the animation fits immaculately. I just can't say enough good things about this, like honestly. Spectacular.
This is one of those pieces that change the way you view art, life, and yourself. I cannot express how grateful I am to have found it. Thank you, Justin, for putting so much time and love into what is and will be, one of my favorite sci-fi pieces of all time.
watching this feels like how it felt to watch Aeon Flux at 2am on a school night, with the volume down low, when I was far too young to decipher it. Bravo, what a unique form of nostalgia.
Mischief is right. We don't live in the multiverse. We live in this one. Where our decisions have weight. Make those decisions count. Thank you for this. I always learn something new after watching it again.
I've watched this since the very beginning and still have no idea what to make of it. Masterful in the animation style, God like in art and abstraction.
I would like to leave this message to anyone rewatching this entire series, trying to decipher it and all it's messages and symbolisms, trying to find the clear image, as I have: It's really hard to find that clear image. That is okay. In fact, I daresay that this is by design. It is part of it's beauty. Interface is abstract in nature, and just like in abstract art, the meaning is all up for interpretation. You could labor endlessly trying to decipher the true meaning behind everything, stuck in an endless loop trying to do so, haunted by all our questions, seeking answers, lost in time, not unlike Henryk in this series, and be tempted to succumb to a seemingly clear answer to everything that haunts us. But also like Henryk, we can also choose to find the meaning we want for ourselves, and forge onward from that loop, carrying with us, the answer that we have found for ourselves. Of course there COULD be a clear answer to everything, and we could ask U m a m i for them. He COULD have all the answers, but it seems that he isn't intent on giving them away. And that's okay as well. That means we are free to come up with our own meanings for this series, each as distinct and as beautiful as every frame of animation in all 7,037 seconds of this film. It's as Mischief said at their arrival at the lighthouse: "If I told you all I know, you would collapse too. It's not my place to tell you. These are things you'll find on your own." Thank you, U m a m i, for this wonderful modern masterpiece. I'm so glad to have existed just in time to discover it. To everyone else here, I'm glad to have been able to enjoy it with you. And remember: Don't get lost in time.
well put. very well put. I was doodling while watching this and its insane because about half way through I wrote above one of my doodles, "it's the meaning you give it", whatever I was thinking about, it sort of just came to me - i think that's what's so beautiful about this piece too.
Man everything in this is great. The animation. The textures, the story. It makes me laugh too. And the music is incredible. I wanna make a whole beat tape sampling this.
You very eloquently discuss subjects that are difficult to describe because we're subsumed by them in our daily lives. I feel like I've been given a lot to puzzle over. Also, I like your sense of humor. Thank you!
I saw a fragment of your work on Twitter Out of curiosity, I found your channel and started watching this video Man, I've never been so captivated by a movie as this one
The use of perspective shifting is Kubrick level of genius. Like the segment from the owls perspective and its freedom and then we switch to Henryk looking at it through the car window to highlight his dissaciation. Another good example is Henyrk looking at the lighthouse coincidentally with his family. One detail that made me sad to think on it, is when theres the flashback with his daughter telling how he met his wife, one thing hidden in plain sight is that there is no color gradient to tell you its a flashback. Hes opened his heart to experience his family as if its the present. And now the depressing color gradient becomes the "future" Another detail thats cool is how his daughter says his "first words" were "i love you" which tells me that his silence is meant to express his tragedy, that his loss took away his voice. Henyrk endures because he doesnt try to bargain with the changing times like Mr Greetings did, but he opens his heart and heroically takes all the suffering that follows instead of continuing to dissociate from reality. To me this is a story of seeing the world as a creatively inspiring place when you are tempted to close yourself off in despair.
The sound in this is absolutely amazing. Subtle things like the whooshing being louder with the spinning cigerette as the ends were closer and quieter when it was more horizontal, phenomenal.
I can't tell you how much I love Interface and Safe Mode and the other videos. It feels like I'm a kid discovering Liquid Television for the first time, or reading the comics that were printed in my local zines. It's an odd kind of nostalgia, but inspiring for my own art. Keep up the good work!
We haven't just lost something. It was taken. The memory of it forcibly scrubbed. The shadow remains and from it we can rebuild it. We have to if we hope to survive. Your own life and mine and everyone you know depends on it.
Finally I’ll have something to play on my VHS player! This was an amazing series and I feel blessed to have been there while it was being incrementally released
Watching this for my 3rd time, all the way through for my 25th birthday. I don't know why I find so much comfort in this series, so much nostalgia for a place I've never been. To me this series feels like one of the best depictions of PTSD, conflict with one's past, their identity, and the separation of the psyche. That true separation from both time and self that I achieved from trying to drown out my demons. My own interpretations probably aren't exact, but I believe the ambiguity of this work of art was not only intentional but necessary in order to allow some mental detangling on the viewers part. Much like how the subconscious shapes our perceptions and experience without our control. It must remain latent and not manifest, in order to assert influence. Thanks Umami, for making me feel so seen.
beautiful, moving, surreal, funny. a work of art in story, visuals and sound. watching it on a CRT in the dark while sitting on the floor enhanced the experience, and made me feel a deep sense of wonder, like being a child again. genuinely happy i got to experience it, thank you from the heart!
Stumbled across the trailer for this, and its everything i hoped for. The sound design and soundtrack are everything, and then this unique style, im in love fr
So good. Glad I watched the whole thing. Moving, funny, creepy, beautiful. A masterpiece. Same feeling as when I discovered that I liked old foreign films in my 20’s.
There's so many golden quotes from this as well as a complete sense of yes I completely get this but I also will never be able to completely gets this... and if you think about it, that exact feeling of uncertain certainty is what I feel is an adequate take away. The passage of time and the human experience and the conflict of change, its horrors, its cycles. Looping and remembering and forgetting. Are we destined to destroy and rebuild again and again until no longer possible? And when we look within ourselves to find a place in the universe, the isolation you gain from your uncertain certainty, that dissociation. Disconnected. Always so many questions, never enough answers. The way this series was created and it's immersion is something special, pulling on that early internet nostalgia that is sure to be a staple for generations to come, it is so great and even more so fitting as we enter an era inevitably reliant on the internet and social media. Where are we going!?!?!? the horrible fate of not knowing the future, but that does not mean we cannot face it, running away into circles. The way the audience is guided through mischief's commentary and monologues and jabs while henryk does not speak, more so a template for you to project on. I think i could probably go on forever about this..... thank you for this, i can feel the love put into it and as such i am enamored with this
Watching how your style grew, how much more technical you had become over the months and months of work... I have so much hope in your new project. You'll do great things.

I watched this entire series starting in college. The art is so mesmerizing, the story it builds up to so good, the mysteries and the build to make sense is amazing and well paced. I grew up with series I saw that there's a blu-ray of this, I'm totally buying one today.
I've seen Umami's works here and there whenever they pop up in my recommended. Today the algorithm recommended this to me, and I clicked on it not realizing initially that it was two hours long. I decided to at least watch the first few minutes or until I lost interest. I was kept engaged the entire time, without looking away from the screen. This was incredible.
OMG I FOUND IT! I recently remembered this series and how beautifully surreal it was and I had basically ZERO reference to find this. A random video just popped up in my recommendation and I immediately recognised the art style! I cannot wait to rewatch this as I had totally forgotten it ❤ I'm not subbed and saved this so I don't lose it again

I’m about halfway through rn and this is definitely gonna be one of my top movies in the last 5 years at least. The levels of nostalgia, fear, wonder, happiness and overall emotional depth is unreal. Kudos to the editors, the VHS quality gives adds to the nostalgia effect. It’s just an incredible piece… much of what previous comments pointed out, but it’s one of those videos in the great realms of RUclips that you simply must see. 10/10
This feels like classic science fiction while being the start of something completely new at the same time. This film changed the entire way I view storytelling and I have a feeling it’s going to be a cult classic for decades to come.
I’m 6 mins into it… Kami is the name of my mother who recently passed and I’ve been getting heavy into the psychedelic realm… This shit is gonna take me on a ride no doubt
Rewatched it, and planning to rewatch it again, as there is so much to unpack and find. An absolute masterpiece, with an amazing soundtrack, thank you for making this
I much prefer it that way. Mankind is not ready to collectively grasp this piece, it would end in brutal misreadings and ultimately taint this movie's legacy. IMO

I'm 27 minutes in and my sanity is already at risk, good job 😭👍
Hope there's more big projects similar to this one or in this unique/odd realm that you've ever so meticulously created. The ambition it takes to make something of this caliber is truly impressive. The first time I watched this, it inspired me immensely to create right away. I'm a creative myself and use music as my primary means of expression and the score to this is magnificent. The soundtrack paired with the animation fits immaculately.
I just can't say enough good things about this, like honestly. Spectacular.
Thank you :)
@@abstractdaddy of course hope to see more in the future
The midnight gospel
This is one of those pieces that change the way you view art, life, and yourself.
I cannot express how grateful I am to have found it.
Thank you, Justin, for putting so much time and love into what is and will be, one of my favorite sci-fi pieces of all time.
Yes
I entirely concur. It has impacted me without a shadow of doubt. Grateful beyond words. 💙
watching this feels like how it felt to watch Aeon Flux at 2am on a school night, with the volume down low, when I was far too young to decipher it.
Bravo, what a unique form of nostalgia.
💋🛸
Mischief is right. We don't live in the multiverse. We live in this one. Where our decisions have weight. Make those decisions count. Thank you for this. I always learn something new after watching it again.
I've watched this since the very beginning and still have no idea what to make of it. Masterful in the animation style, God like in art and abstraction.
The scene of the CT scan gives me IMMENSE goosebumps
Oh shit I’m so psyched, I missed interface so much and really wish it’d come back at least with like a couple episodes or something
You have seen safe mode?
@@daverobinson8117 shhhhh.... If he doesn't know then he's not ready
The interface is in safe mode
@@BloodSugarLQ Love that double meaning
This movie is on a whole other level while on acid... its crazy how its perfect for that... amazing work bro, this is a masterpiece for sure...
Yo how was the experience I kinda Wana try it lmao, pick up any kind of meaning from it?
I thought of that the entire time I watched this
I'm on ketamine and having a similar experience
It's as Mischief said at their arrival at the lighthouse:
"If I told you all I know, you would collapse too. It's not my place to tell you. These are things you'll find on your own."
Thank you, U m a m i, for this wonderful modern masterpiece. I'm so glad to have existed just in time to discover it. To everyone else here, I'm glad to have been able to enjoy it with you. And remember:
Don't get lost in time.
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
I believe this is Poland seen through the eyes of a Canadian
😢
well put. very well put.
Thank you!
I saw a fragment of your work on Twitter
Out of curiosity, I found your channel and started watching this video
Man, I've never been so captivated by a movie as this one
I love revisiting Interface in it’s totality in VHS form, forever wholesome.
And now the depressing color gradient becomes the "future"
Another detail thats cool is how his daughter says his "first words" were "i love you" which tells me that his silence is meant to express his tragedy, that his loss took away his voice.
This totally reminded me of Aeon Flux.
This masterpiece deserves a Peabody Award. Someone please submit it.
Perhaps you can!
Take upon the responsibility, Jacque
We haven't just lost something. It was taken. The memory of it forcibly
scrubbed. The shadow remains and from it we can rebuild it. We have to if we hope to survive. Your own life and mine and everyone you know depends on it.
Finally I’ll have something to play on my VHS player! This was an amazing series and I feel blessed to have been there while it was being incrementally released
I just want to say this was pretty amazing just phenomenal thank you whoever created this piece of art
This is exactly the sort of something _different_ I've been craving, *THANK YOU!!!*
beautiful, moving, surreal, funny. a work of art in story, visuals and sound. watching it on a CRT in the dark while sitting on the floor enhanced the experience, and made me feel a deep sense of wonder, like being a child again.
genuinely happy i got to experience it, thank you from the heart!
This is one of those things that even if it gets uploaded endlessly over and over again I will still watch it every time. It’s just that good.
The fact this is released on VHS makes it so much more (terribly creepy) awesome.
Understanding this movie means becoming enlightened. The greatest gift a human can give.
Kind-of insane that you were able to make an entire movie, good job
A movie that is hard to sit through without getting exhausted and bored
The most beautiful peace of art I ever seen in years, I Fckin love it
It’s badly made
Hasn't premiered yet, still 7mins out. I know this is going to be the definitive way to watch interface. Thanks umami
I think i could probably go on forever about this..... thank you for this, i can feel the love put into it and as such i am enamored with this
Thank you Sydney :)
I love you so much umami going to be able to buy the vhs soon. Never had such an impactful piece in my life
This is honestly one of if not the greatest piece of art I’ve ever had the absolute honor, privilege, and pleasure experiencing. Thank you so much.
my friend introduced me to this and OH MY GOD ITS AMAZING THE ANJMATION STYLE, THE UNSETTLING FEELING, EVERYTHING IS SO COOL
What a movie. Not just film, an experience to behold.
It’s a movie with an experience, not a good one though
Watching how your style grew, how much more technical you had become over the months and months of work... I have so much hope in your new project. You'll do great things.
After a long break from Umami, coming back to see this film in its full glory was an amazing experience. Can't wait to see the next project, I'll definitely buy some merch once I can afford it haha
I hope someone does an in depth exploration of this series and its lore. Alot of things kind of flew over my head no matter how many timed i watched
a bunch of ppl already have the series is a year old, I didn't catch everything my first couple watches through the reason it might be hard to follow is because Justin made the story as he went along
@JEMA Nexpo did a video on it
@@rawdingz71 Nexpo's video is on the incomplete series and incorrect on some points because of that. GPReeds did one a month ago from this posting and it is fully up to date.
I've been looking for this for the past 6 months or so and couldn't find it anywhere then just typed "animated vhs" and it was the first damn thing to pop up. XD
This series really is the Twin Peaks of RUclips animation.
Absolutely thought the same thing thought it was on VHS but that's just the filter so I came to the conclusion that this animated movie isn't from the 1970s or 80s or 90s
We should start a tradition of watching this on VHS while enjoying black coffee and cherry pie...
Interface is a true love of mine, art with a real soul. The animation gets so fantastic in some of the later parts that I can't wait to see what comes after this project!
thanks for uploading this to youtube justin. by far the best way to watch!
i havent seen this webseries in full yet, only saw the first 5 or 6 when those were the only episodes out, but now must be the time. i already loved the look of it, cant wait to watch this whole thing
Halloween is an excellent time to premiere.
I watched this entire series starting in college. The art is so mesmerizing, the story it builds up to so good, the mysteries and the build to make sense is amazing and well paced. I grew up with series I saw that there's a blu-ray of this, I'm totally buying one today.
You did a great job making this movie and I'm glad I came across your channel a couple years ago.
Interface was the series that got me into animation. I still watch it like once every month or two.
I like the subtle comedy parts
randomly stumbled upon this and watched it in full. captivating!!!
An Honest to God masterpiece.. hopefully you get that recognition in your lifetime.. (sometimes it decades for "the rest to catch up" when you're that far ahead.)
The music and audio in this is SO. DAMN. GOOD. I’m still emotive and colorful and helps set the tone SO well.
Thanks for creating this masterpiece Justin
This feels like classic science fiction while being the start of something completely new at the same time. This film changed the entire way I view storytelling and I have a feeling it’s going to be a cult classic for decades to come.
Heavy Phillip K Dick vibes.
Truly a most underrated gem. Interface sits with you like many of the great works referenced within it. Marvelous work.
Let me love your cat
I’m 6 mins into it… Kami is the name of my mother who recently passed and I’ve been getting heavy into the psychedelic realm… This shit is gonna take me on a ride no doubt
Kami just means god/spirit in japanese
Indeed it does
This isn’t psychedelic, more like psychotic
Rewatched it, and planning to rewatch it again, as there is so much to unpack and find. An absolute masterpiece, with an amazing soundtrack, thank you for making this
20:01 is my favorite music out of the whole movie. So eerie and offputting, yet comforting in a weird way
This should be playing in museums.
11/10,this gave me chills, this was amazing from the surreal visual and the haunted music to the eye catching story, you are seriously underrated
Thanks for making stuff like this, art like this is essential
Such a good series! Nexpo first brought this to my attention a couple years ago. Just bought a Blu Ray copy! Fantastic work and very unique art style!
Thank you friend!
@@abstractdaddy My pleasure friend. Any plans on making more Mischief plushies?
Just frogs for now, when they arrive in December. Might think of something different for the drop for next year.
Good art is like a tour that picked all the best elements and sensations of a country to show you.
Huh?
why is this not in millions of views yet
I much prefer it that way. Mankind is not ready to collectively grasp this piece, it would end in brutal misreadings and ultimately taint this movie's legacy. IMO
Because it’s 💩
@@sly_mlmfao aliens are confirmed to be real and no one cared I highly doubt people aren’t ready for such a psychotic movie, they aren’t gonna understand it simply because who would want to try? It’s a waste of time, it’s a waste of your life. Go live a real experience.
The nighthawks ending leads me to believe it didn't have a happy ending. More disassociation and depression but captured in a sealed dinner with no escape.
