Fantastic Tutorial - This is Torez Photography :-) Thank you so much. I will try it on the weekend and order right away. THank you also for putting in the links for the products
Hello! An amazing tutorial, I'm already looking into getting a brush myself and trying this out! One question I have - with what settings does the image show up like that on the computer? Like in the middle of the process? I would love to know!
That's just awesome I wish I could afford the equipment I only make like $800 a month and can't find any place with payments low enough to afford all I have is a Canon rebel T7 with a micro lens like 55mm I think and a Telephoto zoom lens 75-300mm I think idk not digging it out right now to look lol got it on the QVC website with payments no credit check but with the monthly payments that was don't one I could get wish I can get lenses and equipment like you have
You can do most of the stuff easy with standard equipment. I aquired so much gear over many more years, since this is my passion for sooo many years. When you know you stick with it and have the time and space to do so its worth it.
Hello! I have to do a little job with lightpainting but I can't unlock this issue, help hahaha!! In this video, I see how hand in hand that you paint the effect appears on the monitor, how do you set the camera? I have the Nikon 810, I tried to put it in live view but when I press the shutter it goes all black and you can only see the result when you close it again... finished photo...
you can connect the Olympus in LifeComp mode to your screen and see the picture evolve in real time - like @jacobhovman stated -- they can help you to practice lightpainting
@@jakobhovman hi, jakob i have olympus em 10 mark2 but how whats the setting of this Tethering and how i show my camera on TV screen.. i use with my mobile but how i use on TV screen and what is Tethering
@@asadbaig6812 Hello hello...! Olympus have a program: "Capture". This lets you see And use the camera view and settings from a computer. Very handy and reliable for studio work...! Tethering means: Connected via usb-cable Greetings...Hope this helps. Jakob
Hi! So i'm a little new to working with photography and was wondering if you can answer a few questions about shooting for light painting. First, do you need to use a interval shooting setting to take this picture? and also, what would be the best guess for iso and f-stop for a nikon(d3100)? or would I not be able to shoot with that camera? Lol sorry for all the questions
Depending on your torch you can play with the ISO - There are moments i crank it up to ISO 800 when i need to fast so the skin is more crisp and sharp. F-Stop between F8 and sometimes even F22 when i want more time.
@gunnar great video. Can you tell me how to edit ORF file? because I have also tried light paint before but I fail in postproduction. So, if you suggest any idea it would help me. thanks in advance.
Hey there. I use Lightroom for my photos but essentially i only do: 1. WB 2. Brightness adjustment 3. sometimes i pull down the black. 4. the lens correction - I could crerate a video on that - but there is not too much to it .. i really try to come as close as possible to SOOC - i rather take a few more shots.
Hi there, great stuff ;-) How many LUMEN is the light that you are using in the video. I noticed that the ends light up very bright. I bought the black brush but the ends doesn't light up as much as your's :-O
"You can light up the model" Happens to be lighting up the chest area lol. Then he says "If the model allows you to." - She didn't look like she was having it HA! JK This is a great tutorial.
it depends on the gels i put on the brush .. i do a little try and error usually .. .. with the darker colors, less white it goes up to say ISO800 .. .. also when iam closer 160 or 200 is good .. .. when i open the aperature ;-) same thing
I just connected the Olympus directly to the display. The software comes directly from the camera. There are a few different people offering a software. Eric Pare or Jörg Miezda or Dan Roberts. Just go find them and see if it is something you can use for life Light Painting. Have fun !
anything that is translucent kind of filtering the light. Could be a wrapping foil from food or shampoo or photogels. Just make sure your torch does not burn the plastic!
Gunnar, at around minute mark 1:10 where we can see the multi colored ends of the tool, what tape was applied to the light? In the scene before I thought I saw only red tape on there. I'm looking for a solution that doesn't melt as well. I use the Eagletac lights that Eric recommended, and they will ruin a gel within minutes. Any suggestions? Or use a lower power light for the fiber brush?
Christopher Brown Photography .... thats the problem with some flashlights .. the klarus also have no heat management .. sent all eagletac back .. i used a ledlenser they dont heat up so much .. yes less lumen will do .. increase ISO may be ... and yes i put different color gels on it ..
I have a little question. You are using colour gels to make your fiber optic colourful. In another LPB tutorial it is written that if you want different colours of fiber optics, you can use RGB flashlight. I am interested what if I buy just white light painting brushes and I will use RGB flashlight, will it work, will I get the same effect, or do I have to buy all the brushes to get different colours? Maybe you or somebody else know the answer? :)
i also used RGB torches --- thats your decision and it looks cool too - essentially its what kind of effects you after - there is the little color shine flashlight that has some 15 different colors - that would give you more choice in colors rather than RGB and it cost like 12$ or so
see in bio - there are two different shops i can recommend - in the US and Europe both ship world wide but it depends on if you want to deal with customs
Iam really sorry for the late answer. I missed that question of yours. I dont check that often. But to answer your question: If you look closely i have different gels taped to the adapter so some of the fibers are red some blue and so on.

Its the build in Olympus Live Composite mode connected to the TV. Which i like a lot. I dont use it very often for the actual lightpainting but for this kind of stuff its great.
I just connected the Olympus to the screen. What you see is a built-in function of the camera. super cool to teach and learn. Normally I don't use that when I actually take photos.
not sure what you asking. During the video i just connected to the screen from the camera. So its the build in Olympus Live Composite mode. Which i like a lot. I dont use it very often for the actual lightpainting but for this kind of stuff its great.
Yes, the Live Composite mode is great. We can see the result instantly. I was wonder to know any software could do that. Thank you for your kindly reply.

well there is a link in the description .. the second option is to purchase one of those black fiber lamps and take them apart .. might be cheaper but you need to be a little crafty ... good luck when trying that technique
The shutter differs from photo to photo. Its really as loong as i take to paint her. Something from 20sec. to 90sec. for this kind of stuff. The models usually cant stand still that long unless you fixate them on the back of their head > that helps!
Really that long? WOW. Um...how do you keep it so sharp without any motion blur with that long of an exposure. Sorry for all the questions. Just trying to figure this out, it's simply amazing!! Thank You!!
this is a feature of the Olympus OMD - called LifeComp Mode ..many beginners lightpainter use this kind of Camera - its really easy to train with this and test tools .. i use the live come for photo booth and these tutorials .. everybody understands right away whats happening .. the OMD 1/ 5 / 10 do that .. not sure about other models

if you dont have a very strong flashlight just bump up the ISO to 800 or a 1000. Works for me just fine.

great tutorial! is there any tool to substitute the black fiber brush?
there are those cheap 3$ lamps that look the same .. i tried these .. they also work
What did you put in between the connector and the fibre optics to get the multi colours?
its just some tesa film / scotch tape with some colored gels or foils wat ever you have at hand that changes the color of the light
Ok thanks. I've managed to get a single colour but I'm not sure how to get the multi colours all in one?
just cut out a few small bits and put them onto the tape .. then you influense where the appear on the fibers
