  • Don't you let that DEAL go down!
Trying to combine John Mayer and Jerry Garcia over an awesome chord progression. Always influenced by others that also play these great songs.
Please enjoy this solo, there are more on the way so use the comment section for requests

    Really nice playing and feel!!
You clearly have a good hold on hammer ons/pull-offs already. That’s why I just mention a tip to take or leave:
During some of the faster alternate picking passages, continuing to include some slurs (hammer ons/pulloffs) can keep it from sounding over-articulated (and more vocal/natural). Just like we slur our pronunciation the faster we speak naturally. Keeping a looser hold on the pick can also help de-emphasize notes you aren’t trying to accent in a line.
Just my two cents for you to take or leave! Sounding great! 🤘

Thanks! It depends on what I’m trying to get out of the solo. This time I was looking for some well defined notes over sounding more vocal (if I was playing for example slow blues, I would approach it the other way around).
I will take that in consideration in other solos that I play in order to not turn this into a habit.
Thank you for watching and for your advice! Please subscribe for more music content (I also play piano, drums and bass)

@@vasco_music. Thank you. It would be awesome if you could play over Runnin' Down A Dream by Tom Petty.

I meant a Dead song, but it’s ok. Can you name some other songs (doesn’t mean it won’t be that one), it can also be from The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, John Mayer, among others

Wow I never thought I’d hear that, thank you! That’s actually how I approach guitar playing in general, by saying “I can’t do this yet” and then I practice a lot so that I can take that step.
What I do is I listen to a lot of music first (studio and live) and look for all the nuances in a song and how different players interpret the song. By doing that I start figuring out where I can go on the neck and what sounds good and what doesn’t. From here I start to develop my own solos based on what I like.
For example with Deal you can learn a lot from Jerry’s playing but I also learned some important stuff with John. From the Grateful Dead any live Deal will work because they’re all very different. Dead and Co takes on Deal are also different but in another way (my favorite Deal from them is 6/8/2019).
Playing Dead songs is great to get better at playing guitar but I’ll have to say it’s not very easy on some songs like Deal. If you’re starting to play I recommend Brown Eyed Women or Sugaree, they’re great songs and they’re not the hardest, especially Brown Eyed Women since it’s not very complex theory wise.
Anyway, please subscribe for more music content (including Dead) and name some songs you’d like me to play on the next videos, I’ll pick one!
Have a great day and keep on playing guitar, it’s one of the best things in the world!

Super sick but one tip is try and play a lower register solo until after the first chorus then get into a higher register. listen to deal from dicks picks 18 for reference. Sounding so good though bro!

Thank you so much! I’ll give it a listen and I get exactly what you mean and you’re totally right, but that would be hard in a small video. If I cover the whole song I’ll do that!
Please subscribe for more Dead content! (And other music content as well)

      Easy answer, BOTH! lol
I really like those two eras actually so yes it would be really hard to choose!
What are your favorite Dead tunes? Name a few so that I can pick one to play on another video!
