Sorry to take so long for a reply. Thanks for the kind words. I’m hoping to continue with some more videos getting deeper into Albert’s style and technique and maybe just some stories about being on the road with him. Hope you stay tuned.☃️
I saw Albert at Tipitina's in New Orleans and was blown away. On his last song he jumped off the stage and played the whole song standing right in front of me. It is a memory I will cherish forever. I saw Stevie Ray's 1st Concert on the River Boat in New Orleans and I don't like to compare these 2 because they were head and shoulders above the rest. I don't think it was close. John Smith who toured with Albert on the sax has been a friend of mine who has been in my band and duo shared a few stories of Albert. John is a monster too.
Hi Robert I remember meeting you at The Stanhope House. You invited me upstanding during the break. I have pictures from that night somewhere. I'll never forget your version of "Hideaway." My name is Bill Miller. The Stanhope House was my "home away from home" for many years. I saw all the greats of that time period there, including Stevie Ray Vaughan and Albert King along with Albert Collins everytime that he played there. I'll never forget the special "bro" hand shake that Albert gave me. The one where he snaps his middle finger against his thumb while clutching your hand. It left a lasting memory. I asked Johnny B. Gaydon about it once. I'm sure that you know about it.
I wish that I could post a picture here. I assembled what I call an "Albert Collins Tribute Tele" out of all Fender parts. I relic'd all the hardware with muranic acid vapor. The neck pickup is a Seymour Duncan Antiquity humbucker and the bridge is a Fender Texas Special. I put a '66 Fender decal on the headstock. I even found the same "prismatic reflective tape" that Albert put on the "ash tray" bridge cover. It turned out to be a great guitar. I let Anson Funderburgh play it once. He liked it.
Bill, wow ... What memories & moments you brought back ... The Stanhope House Daze! & You remember my Hideaway version 🎸🌟 Yep I've been using that snap shake ever since those days. SRV and Albert used it ... It Felt so good to get the snap - Stevie would tell me... We are brothers of the lodge!
He walked outside Antones and went next door to order pizza one night all the whlle playing. He rarely brought his band to Antones as the Antones house band was full of legends
Well you right about the legends house full. I probably did about 5 shows with Albert Collins and the Icebreakers ... We had guest greats do our encores - SRV🎸😀
Absolutely loved Albert, one of my favorite blues players… were you on his live in Japan tour? I ran into Albert’s manager in a guitar shop in Chicago and we talked for about a half hour, it was wonderful learning more about A.C. Thanks so much for sharing this, great stuff.

Hello, If I understand you are concerned about the capo? 🎸 I plan on doing special Albert Collins vids on the capo and his technique - The capo in the video is Alberts ...one of few he gave me. 😀
Nope, but he opened a show for Almand Brothers and my Blues Mission at Harpo's in my hometown Detroit... I talked and greeted him before he hit the stage.... I felt and by the look in his eyes something wasn't right - The next week I read and heard the news he committed suicide in a jail cell. I'm still devastated ... So Sad😢... what went wrong Roy... I wish he would have told me and I would have done anything to say him....🙂↕️
Robert I used to come and see you all the time you and the blues mission and you're playing around Detroit area I was wondering what happened to you until I seen Albert Collins and the icebreakers and I recognized and he called out your name so that help keep on picking man you're still bad
Hi Glen, Albert really used no pedals .... Very rarely a Cry Baby Wah if someone hooked up for him. His Fender Quad Reverb settings were always Volume 11, Trebel 10, Bass 0, Middle 0, Reverb 6 😀
@@guitartime4U 11, wow, that's loud. I've heard no blues guitar player with a tone like his. Did he mainly use the neck humbucker pickup? Some of those sounds he gets are like out of phase sounding, especially the long held vibrato notes (that go on forever!).

Groovy to hear👍 I Always love playing Tipitina’s with Albert. Such wonderful memories to cherish, so precious.
Every time I see a Telecaster I think of Albert Collins I also love to listen to his cousin Lightning Hopkins. I am learning a lot.
I will do a video on the stories Albert told me about Lightning as we rolled the bus into the 3ward Houston.
Thank you Robert! What a great lesson and explanation of Albert’s style. Big time fan! 👍🏻🙏🏻❤️
