Got to see AC in the early 80's in a great old Theatre with a centre isle. He came walking down in full flight as the roadies fed out the 100ft cable, while the horn section followed behind. Absolutely mind blowing! I’ve seen SRV and Buddy Guy but nothing could top Albert Collins.
I agree. I was lucky enough to see AC about 10 times in the 80's..he would tour up and down the west coast so he hit PDX about every 8-10 weeks it seemed...Buddy Guy could be more histrionic, and is a much better singer, and as great as SRV was, I never saw anyone connect with his audience the way Collins could. He put on a masterclass if he was in a 200 capacity bar or 2500 seat theater. He always delivered. every single time. I have seen 200 plus concerts and no ones concert was ever more FUN.
Hello Matt, I m surprised you didn t see him at the Borderline in London in March 93. Maybe you were out of town. He was using a dual amp setting, a Twin and a Musicman. He was also using a TS9 pedal, which really surprised me, I always thought he played straight into the amp. He played 2 shows that night, I attended both of course. I recorded one of the shows on tape but it tuned out very boomy, I must have the cassette somewhere... Anecdoctally, a then-popular guitar player was there and tried to nick the horns' sheet music after the show but someone told him off!
Thank you very much. He is employing right hand 1st finger Apoyando most of the time. That gives you fatter and louder sound than tirando. He probably does that with the thumb as well.
Saw albert play in Ventura CA in late 80s ..
Phenomenal gig
Matt...really enjoy your nod to AC!
