India to explore convalescent plasma therapy for COVID-19

- The health community across the world is looking at plasma or antibody therapy to battle COVID-19. Convalescent plasma has been listed as a therapeutic method by China’s National Health Commission.
In India, many states have sought and received the approval of ICMR for convalescent plasma therapy. But so far, ICMR does not recommend it as a treatment option outside clinical trials.
Convalescent plasma therapy involves transfusing certain components from the blood of people who have recovered from a virus attack into people who are very sick with the virus or at high risk.
When a person recovers, he/she has developed antibodies that will stay in their blood waiting to attack the same virus. Those antibodies, when injected into another person with the disease, recognise the virus and attack.
Infusing convalescent plasma is essentially like topping with more antibodies hoping that an increased amount of antibodies will dampen the disease progression.
During the Ebola outbreak in 2014, the WHO prioritised the evaluation of treatment with convalescent plasma derived from patients who have recovered from the disease.
It was also tried for other coronavirus diseases like SARS in 2003 and MERS in 2012, with varied efficacy
According to the WHO, the experience in the past suggests that the empirical use of convalescent plasma can be a potentially useful treatment for COVID-19.
Plasma is the liquid part of blood which contain many inorganic substance like NaCl and NaHCO3,It contain fibrinogen which help in the cotting of blood

Dr Amato De Monte director of the anesthesia and resuscitation department of the University of Udine, also in Italy, treated 36 covid-19 patients with ozone therapy.
The results with this treatment have also been excellent.
