I just bought the 28mm sigma this morning, will be using it for time lapse- panos- and some tracked shots.
    Thanks for your review man👍

This answers the question I just asked on another of your videos. 28mm it is then (currently at the same price). Your very sensible point about ease of stitching for panoramas really swung it for me. Thanks for another great vid 👍

Good info. Just curious why you didn’t shoot the sample photos at the same ISO.

When comparing the corners of the frames you show that there’s a really bad astigmatism on the 24mm but, you had it set at a 30 second exposure compared to the 20 second exposure you used with the 28mm. Which leads to star trails. Overall great video but I feel like that comparison isn’t a very fair comparison.

Great, thanks! Any chance of testing the Sigma 40mm f1.4 please?

Why didn’t you use the same settings? In both images it looks like you’ve purposely jacked the results in favour of the 28mm.
If you’re going to do a side by side comparison you have to be fair and shoot the same settings.

Also, the lens is $599 for the EF mount at the time of writing this on B&H. It’s an amazing deal for the quality you get. Other than being a heavy lens.

sigma 14 is heavy but the best for astro. just ordered the 28

  • @stevenrobinsonpictures

28 has much less astigmatism doesn't it! Worth it if you are an astro guy. To be fair, no 24mm lens is free of this aberration, harder to control the wider the lens is. It is also cool to get the weather sealing. My sigma 35/1.4 has become slightly decentred so I am going for the 40 art. I played with my mates 40 art files, even at f/1.8 it is beautifully clean. Class leading for sure but heavy. Great for panos and those tight single shots. I am still shooting a D850, are you ML or DSLR just now? Hard to beat the D850 files. Also the files from the D810!

I mostly shoot with the EOS R mirrorless these days and I love it. I had it astro modfied and it’s very capable for astro. The EVF and focus peaking come in quite handy, especially for panoramas

Very informative. Thanks. Thinking of buying either lens, leaning towards the 24mm on the basis of cost. Intend to use it with a dedicated astrocam - asi2600mm/mc and a zwo eos filter drawer. I was wondering whether the lens has built in aperture control or are stop down rings required? Cheers, Des

    • @kamilkp
      @kamilkp  2 года назад +1

It doesn’t have an aperture ring but you don’t need a stop-down ring. If you have a dslr/mirrorless you can take the lens off while holding the depth of field preview button at the desired aperture and the lens will „hold” that aperture value

@@kamilkp Many thanks. Tested your hack on a canon 50mm f1.8 mkii and as you wrote, works like a charm. I have a Redcat 51; samyang 135 both of which I am reasonably happy with - which sigma art lens in your opinion would be the most versatile complement for wide field imaging? Either 24/28mm or 50mm. I use a goto mount so mosaics should be possible. Also do you ever use narrow band filters with short focal length lenses, and if so, does that work well? Cheers, Des

I was using an H alpha 12nm filter with my 24mm and it worked pretty well. I would recommend the 28mm though

I thought so at that time. But the 28mm is even better than that. I’ve done some research and it seems like it’s as good as it gets on the 28mm

5:50 Why waste 5 minutes and 40 seconds of viewers' time? Just open with this shot. It's all people who are curious about astro really care about. You don't need to waste thousands of viewers' time explaining their size and weight, or explaining pedantically that you're comparing "portrait orientations" and so on. You are certainly doing a good service here, by showing the comparison, and I am thankful for it, but I wish you hadn't charged me 5 minutes of my life in return for this image at this time stamp.
