How can you determine if the person is selfish or just in it to step ? To be honest, I felt like most guys in undergrad did it just to get women and attention.
The application and interview processes allow chapters to screen interests in addition to the chapter members being observant of their interests beforehand

Nice enough guy with a solid GPA, but he just didn't seem like he was cut out for Greek life in general, despite being a legacy-and the family who's frat expressed reservations about him to begin with.

Great vid as usual. Question. I have a connection with a lady who is in the sorority I'm interested in. Should I approach her or look at the chapter she's on or look for a chapter and join that way? Not sure how to approach. Thanks in advance
Thank you for this video. You are super helpful as usual. I have a few questions: Are community service hours important to have for pursuing a graduate chapter? Also, my grad school GPA was much higher than my undergrad GPA. Will they look at the masters degree, undergrad, or both? How long should you attend events that a grad chapter hosts and attempt to get to know the members before mentioning to them that you are interested in joining? Also, is it going to bother the officers of the chapter if you mention it to them or will they not have a problem if you are straight forward with interest?
I have full video on graduate intake that I think you will find helpful here: ruclips.net/video/zHovqV17WsM/видео.html. It talks about community service and most of the questions you're asking. Regarding GPA, they will look at undergrad mostly bc to be considered a graduate member they'll be looking at your undergraduate information.
I was initiated Spring 19 into Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. Everything from my experience to joining a grad chapter is still pretty fresh. For GPA, the GPA that will be considered is the GPA of the degree that you finished. At the time of applying for membership, if you've finished your graduate degree, then your gpa for your Master's degree MAY be considered, it depends on the Sorority (I'll explain this later as it different for DST). If you are still in graduate school at the time of applying for Membership, then you're bachelor's degree GPA will be considered. I can't speak for other sororities but DST has a 2.75 GPA requirement. I would encourage prospective members to at least have a 3.0 GPA no matter what Sorority or Fraternity you seek Membership. For DST prospective members: If you are seeking Membership into DST and you have an advanced degree (Masters, Doctorate, Etc) your GPA for an advanced degree is not a factor when applying for membership but the transcript must still be included in the Application. Also, if you earned your advanced degree, you will only need to include the transcript from that degree in your application, no need to also include your Undergraduate transcript as only the most recent degree will be accepted. If the most recent degree you've earned is a Bachelor's degree then yes, your GPA will be a factor unless you've been out of school for 10 plus years. Please keep in mind that application requirements for both Alumnae and Undergraduate chapters change often, so it's best to attend informationals to get the most up to date information on whats required in the Application. As for attending events, yes, as Kels mentioned in the video, please attend public events. Some grad chapters have invitations, most don't. The best thing to do is visit the grad Chapter's website and sign up to receive information regarding upcoming events, follow on social media. When you attend events, at every event, introduce yourself to the chapter members as you want them to become familiar with you, express interest in the organization and be sure to know the reason why you want to join the organization as you may be asked that question. Connecting with the President, 1st Vice President and 2nd Vice President is also important because if the organization that your seeking Membership into has invite only events, they will be the members to include you on that list. Again, most orgs either have member only events or public events. The chapter I was initiated into did not require an invitation for RUSH or any events, so it does depend on the chapter for any Sorority.
How would you measure your community service hours if you don’t do a consistent program, but volunteer for events that pop up. How would you verify that?
I made the mistake of telling one of the members that I was interested in joining AKA. Did I make a huge mistake??? I didnt mean to. It was at orientation and they had a table set up for aka and I just wanted information
It's important to inform an AKA member (who you know personally-from a shared class, study group or other student interest group, church, etc.) that you are interested in joining but being discreet about your interest is very important. Best wishes to you!
It’s helpful for the organization to know you’re interested but not in saying it if that makes sense. Wait until you’re able to join the organization (academic wise), if everything is up to par you may not have any issues. Best of luck!
@@tayyamor this is something I’ve wondered. I’ve been showing up to all of the events and I’ve introduced myself. I honestly have this nagging feeling that I need to leave it like that, and not tell the one member that I’m very acquainted with. I feel that instincts are there for a reason.
Great video!! I have a question! My friend will be a transfer student on the undergraduate level she is interested in becoming an AKA member. However, she is in her 30’s she has a concern about her age. I told her Sorority organizations take pride in any form of discrimination! That AKA does not discriminate against anyone from joining because of their age as long as they meet the GPA community service etc. criteria.

Hi... I would highly encourage you to review their website, social media and join their virtual events if possible. Visit the National website to know what’s going on. Ask yourself what you have to contribute to the organization!
I have a question... I’m currently working on my undergrad, and I would like to become apart of a certain organization. I’m 26, married, and I have 2 step children, one who lives with me full time. I know in my heart that I just wouldn’t be able to commit fully to the sorority (if they would have me) so I think I want to wait until I graduate and try for the intake process then. Will this be a bad mark on me? Like will they look at me crazy if they know that there was an active chapter on my campus and I didn’t try to join then? I just want to be able to be active and not be a “letter wearer” but Idk how I’d be able to do that with all that I have on my plate right now...
Thank for sharing your story. I think that you should join when the time is right for you. Don’t join now because it’s available; join when you’re ready and when you can fully commit to the chapter. Joining while in undergrad is time consuming and if undergrad isn’t the right time, then you do have an opportunity to join after you receive your degree.
Hello! I’ve written down some questions I think may be asked during the interview and my response to them. Is it ok to take that with me (or have on my phone) and gaze at, if asked? Thanks!
The intake process is not like non-Black organizations where they’re in pursuit of you. You should know why you chose that organization, which makes the question (why should you choose us), obsolete. There is a better way to form the question if you’re curious of the answer. That video is on my channel and it’s related to intake orientation
I have a low undergrad gpa, due to being a full time mom n students, but my grad gpa is 3.97. So my question is which one will they use? Or will they use both?
So as a freshman in college I feel a bit rushed bc enrollment opens this spring semester but I don’t wanna jump right in and get rejected… is it okay to wait until 2023 spring when I’m a sophomore and feel a bit more experienced cause I don’t wanna feel behind or anything
Most organizations require sophomore status. I encourage interests to do their research and build relationships while waiting. Check out my full playlist on UG membership
i have a question. does a minimum GPA and good community service/activity on campus balance out? i’m active on campus and have adequate community service but my GPA just meets the minimum requirement. i feel like the GPA may hold me back
Great question. The thing to keep in mind is that fraternities and sororities are founded on academic principles as well as community service. It’s important to meet the minimum GPA requirements but every organization will tell you to strive for higher because it’s something that every organization reviews. And while you may meet the minimum requirement, we say strive for higher because anything can happen that could potentially bring your GPA down
Hi, I found your videos very helpful. I do need advice. Okay so I am a legacy and last year I applied but not under legacy and was denied. What is the best way to go about applying this year as a legacy? I was told it’s bc I wrote my application out instead of typing it. I just want the sorority that I want to join to know that I am serious about joining and it really is about sisterhood and long term friendships and commitment to a beautiful organization that uplifts the black community and gives back. How do I go about reapplying ? Is it normal to apply more than once? (I feel kinda embarrassed)
Thank you for sharing. It's always best to follow the instructions provided. Several applications are turned away when directions are not followed as stated. It's not uncommon to reapply. If presented an invitation to join, listen to the instructions from your membership chair and to read whatever instructions are provided in the application as well. Review your completed application and proofread before you submit it to your chair.
Hello, my gpa suddenly dropped …. I had a death in my family. I also switched my majors ….. but my gpa is a C+ is there anyway I might still have a chance of joining?
At minimum, you must meet the GPA requirements and whatever other requirements your organization requires to be considered eligible to apply. I can’t speak on your chances as I am not a member of your chapter, but I encourage you to make sure that you’re meeting other requirements. My playlists have more info on how you can stay on track
Have you seen me? I have several tats lol. No, organizations don’t discriminate against tattoos. However, you will know the appropriate time to cover up

Hello , If a person attended rush and did application, it’s been a month no interview only a email stating we appreciate your patience and there was a schedule delay. Haven’t received any other email or call.. can you still be contacted or wait for rejection letter. Or email.
Hey, thanks for you prompt response, so through Activities Advisor over Greek life or Chapter Pres or email that responded thanks for your patience it was to all who applied I think.
Oftentimes, you aren't dropped just because they changed their minds. Joining a sorority requires time commitment and a lot of effort which is why joining an organization (especially in grad chapter) is harder.
What are the chances of getting chosen, if you have pretty much exactly the minimum GPA? Meaning you are eligible, but there are other PNMs with higher GPAs?
I always say strive for higher. Don't just strive for the minimum because there will be others who have higher GPAs and that could be the determining factor between you and them. Also strive for higher because you don't want your GPA to suffer if you're selected and involved in intake.
Welcome to my channel! My main advice is to do your research on both chapters. Check out my video on this very topic ruclips.net/video/HZ-3m8usvto/видео.html
@KelsTells Hi Kels, I’m an upcoming sophomore interested in joining a sorority. How recent should my community service be? Is anything between 2016 to the current year okay?

Im half black, and im really pale for a light skin... do you think that will matter? Are mixed breeds able to join black sororities or do they have to go to the regular sororities? I get soo confused, im going to college in technically a year and i want to know much about both types of sororities before i make up my mind about wether it'll be a great opportunity or just a distraction to my educational needs...and my mind is kind of in the middle, i think i just need to do some more research.
Divine 9 organizations are traditionally black organizations but you will see on each of their membership pages that they are nondiscriminatory. Race, skin color, religion, etc. do not matter. No worries. Thanks for clarifying. It depends on the organization’s requirements
Can you build a relationship with a sorority before you get into a university? How can you do it virtually?
You can; it's better if you know someone that's already on campus. Virtual relationship building can be found here: ruclips.net/video/u3qyjH9U2Wc/видео.html
Hi... I would highly encourage you to review their website, social media and join their virtual events if possible. Visit the National website to know what’s going on. Ask yourself what you have to contribute to the organization!
Hi love! Ur videos are the best. I’m interested in grad chapter. Do I need to request my transcripts or is my physical degree enough? Thank you
Check out my grad chapter playlist for more info!
Thank you, this was great!
thank you!
I also work full time as well 😩
Thank for sharing your story.
Thanks!
That’s a great idea. Yes.
Is it bad if you ask the organization “Why you should choose their organization?” Respectfully. Is this an offensive question?
The intake process is not like non-Black organizations where they’re in pursuit of you. You should know why you chose that organization, which makes the question (why should you choose us), obsolete. There is a better way to form the question if you’re curious of the answer. That video is on my channel and it’s related to intake orientation
I have a low undergrad gpa, due to being a full time mom n students, but my grad gpa is 3.97. So my question is which one will they use? Or will they use both?
Check out my GPA video for this information!
Where do you get the community service hours from? Can you use service hours from high school?
Check out my community service video on my channel for more details
Due to Covid, if I haven’t did any recent community services hours will that affect me?
Please watch my video on this topic. Can be found in my FAQ playlist
And while you may meet the minimum requirement, we say strive for higher because anything can happen that could potentially bring your GPA down
do you think attending no events is an automatic deal breaker ?
That depends. What other things are you doing to make yourself known to the chapter members?
If you are selected and make it through, do you all have any say in the probate outfits or the routine of the presentation?
Sometimes. Depends on the Chairwoman. Some shows are completely planned.
I’m a transfer student and I’m interested in joining an organization. What are some tips for people like us?

Hello I was wondering if you could read over my interest letter?
Hello, this service is solely available through my intake prep course. Details are in the description box.
Hello I have a question. Do sorority’s care about someone having visible tattoos on their arms?
Have you seen me? I have several tats lol. No, organizations don’t discriminate against tattoos. However, you will know the appropriate time to cover up
@@KelsTells I must be blind because I don't recall seeing your tattoos. Lol! Good to know either way because I have a couple as well
@@ThePennyBlackRUclipsChannel Mine (right now) are in easy to conceal places. But it's your body; yours may not be like mine and that's fine. We (D9 orgs) do not discriminate against it.
@@KelsTells Okay awesome! Happy to hear that. Mine are easy to conceal as well - they're on my back and I never show them anyway. In fact, I get annoyed when people ask to see them lol
Lol. I know the feeling!
What if you get a email from a certain sorority?
What kind of email?
@@KelsTells Its a Welcome Fall letter from the sorority & it tells a little bit about the sorority but it's only from that sorority. I didn't get any other Welcome Fall letters from any other sororities
It could be the standard practice of the chapter to send a letter
Hello , If a person attended rush and did application, it’s been a month no interview only a email stating we appreciate your patience and there was a schedule delay. Haven’t received any other email or call.. can you still be contacted or wait for rejection letter. Or email.
Hello, if no timeline for notifications was provided, then you can follow up via email
Hey, thanks for you prompt response, so through Activities Advisor over Greek life or Chapter Pres or email that responded thanks for your patience it was to all who applied I think.
I wanted to ask if participating in community activist organizations could be considered community service ?
Anything that you volunteer to do is counted as community service. Keep a log of the time you spend with your organization
Very good advice!
Who’s asking for a resume?
Resumes are requested by the UG and graduate chapter.
KelsTells This must be specific to your sorority. I wouldn’t want others to think it’s applicable to all organizations. Be well Sistergreek.
I’ve had other sorority members outside of my organization inform me that resumes are asked for. It may differ by chapter. You be well too.
... are you talking about undergraduate or graduate?
Mainly undergraduate but info can apply to alumni membership too
Well , what is it when I get all that passed and paid my money then they said that they changed their mind . . I own my own business , ect..
Oftentimes, you aren't dropped just because they changed their minds. Joining a sorority requires time commitment and a lot of effort which is why joining an organization (especially in grad chapter) is harder.
What gpa is too low?
Check the sorority’s membership page
What are the chances of getting chosen, if you have pretty much exactly the minimum GPA? Meaning you are eligible, but there are other PNMs with higher GPAs?
I always say strive for higher. Don't just strive for the minimum because there will be others who have higher GPAs and that could be the determining factor between you and them. Also strive for higher because you don't want your GPA to suffer if you're selected and involved in intake.
Hello
I am kind of new to this channel; what advice would you have for those who are interested in an organization, but you are stuck between the two?
Welcome to my channel! My main advice is to do your research on both chapters. Check out my video on this very topic ruclips.net/video/HZ-3m8usvto/видео.html
Do they check your social media?
Some individuals may
If they don't check their social media, they should because some of them are embarrassing, and l am not a part of the organization.
@KelsTells Hi Kels, I’m an upcoming sophomore interested in joining a sorority. How recent should my community service be? Is anything between 2016 to the current year okay?
Chapters will most likely look at your hours of service from the last year or two. Anything beyond that you can add to your resume.
If a few girls on the most recent line don't like me, will i be rejected?
I can’t speak for your chapter of interest. But I encourage you to try and build relationships if it’s the chapter you want to join.
I’m a student athlete will that count as an experience
Experiences are jobs or activities that you can put on your resume.
Hey ! I have a question!
What’s your question?
What organization are you in?
Sigma Gamma Rho
Do you have an email? I have a question but don’t feel comfortable putting it as a comment publicly .
I do. It’s in the description box!

i love this video its to the point
Thank you!
Are you at home do you work
Hey do you have to have rhythm to be apart of an organization?
That’s a loaded question. No but you may have to step out of your comfort zone if you’re interested in a chapter that may be small on campus. Check out my video on this topic ruclips.net/video/2Klm8zZm1tM/видео.html
I was the 555th like😎. Love the video💞 very honest
Thank you!
Is there an age limit??
Membership is based on degree levels, not age limits.
👍 thumb up
Im half black, and im really pale for a light skin... do you think that will matter? Are mixed breeds able to join black sororities or do they have to go to the regular sororities? I get soo confused, im going to college in technically a year and i want to know much about both types of sororities before i make up my mind about wether it'll be a great opportunity or just a distraction to my educational needs...and my mind is kind of in the middle, i think i just need to do some more research.
Divine 9 organizations are traditionally black organizations but you will see on each of their membership pages that they are nondiscriminatory. Race, skin color, religion, etc. do not matter. Definitely do your research on the organization and the chapter that you want to join. Also check out my playlist on UG membership for more advice. ruclips.net/video/WlTiw2Jlgb0/видео.html
What about tattoos, i have a full sleeve
I have tattoos too. As long as you’re dressed appropriately according to the occasion, you’ll be fine.
@@KelsTells whew, good to know. i didnt know how it would be being a woman and all
You can look into ways to cover your tats for meetings if you're concerned (like outfits and etc.) but it's not a big deal.
@@KelsTells thank you my love💙🥰you're appreciated. I was worried😂
Do you know anyone that’s gotten in with a 2.5 gpa??
Organizations will have different GPA requirements, so yes and no. A 2.5 may be required for one and not the other. Academics come first! You can check the GPA requirement for each organization on their respective membership pages. ruclips.net/video/rxIoElDm9js/видео.html
