  • These homemade beef patties, perfectly paired with caramelized onions and melted cheese in fried sourdough bread are simple to make, yet incredibly delicious. Let’s get cooking!

    Ingredients:
    2 tbsp soft unsalted butter
    A pinch of salt
    2 tablespoons mayonnaise
    1 tsp Dijon mustard
    300g / 10.5 oz ground beef
    1/2 teaspoon onion powder
    1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
    1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
    freshly cracked black pepper to taste
    1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
    4 slices sourdough bread
    4 slices Swiss cheese
    4 medium-sized yellow onions
    2 tbsp unsalted butter
    2 tbsp olive oil
    1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
    1. Peel the onions and cut them in 1/4 “ thick half moons. In a large skillet, heat the oil and the butter over medium heat. Once the butter is melted, add the onions and stir frequently for about 10 minutes until the onions are turning translucent. Now turn the heat to low and spread the onions in a single layer. Stir every 10-15 minutes until the onions are golden brown and caramelized. This should take 45-60 minutes in total. About 5 minutes before they are fully cooked, add 1 tbsp of apple cider vinegar.
    2. In a small bowl, mix butter, salt, mayonnaise, and Dijon mustard until smooth.
    3. Combine the ground beef, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Divide the mixture into 2 equal portions. Form 2 thin patties, roughly resembling the shape of the bread.
    4. Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook 3-4 minutes per side then remove from skillet and set aside.
    5. Spread 1 tablespoon of the butter mixture on each slice of bread.
    6. Heat the skillet over medium-low heat. Place 2 of the slices, dry sides up, into the skillet and top with cheese, a cooked patty each, and cover with caramelized onions. Now top each sandwich with the remaining slices of cheese and bread, dry sides down.
    7. Cook until the bread is crispy and the cheese is melted, 4-5 minutes per side.
